Now im not trying to diss Guild Wars or support World Of Warcraft, but I was surprised to find Guild Wars was the top rated game on this site, instead of World Of Warcraft. Because I thought World Of  Warcraft was the most popular game out there, I mean they have like the biggest fanbase, and I know a lot of them are little kids but there are a lot of adults too. By the way when you respond to this I would appreciate logical answers not "cuz WoW suck!".

While World of Warcraft has a large fanbase, it also has a very dedicated base of detractors, and they seem to be more active on this site.

Guild wars maybe higher because there are many people that dislike WoW on this forum, but also remember that not every person that plays an mmo voted on this site.

I think community is the most important part of an MMO. That being said, I'm not surprised WoW isn't the top game. However, I have no clue what the community is like in GW.

Don't know if I can give a logical answer but I'll try.  There is a large crowd of people who are really in mmorpgs for the end game PvP.  In order for a game to really catch this crowd a balance has to finely tuned. Balance on the order of shaving off a half second recharge on one of a thousand skills can completely change the game / meta-game.  This is the crowd that Guild wars has gotten.

WoW, the mmoprg not the compuserve failed ISP, or the Colesterol susbtitute olestra potato chips, is really nothing new for the mmorpg world in terms of gameplay and such.  They did make an mmo with a handicapped ramp, easily accessible to all.  has alot of the features of a true mmorpg, without all that depth and hard to learn secrets and fine tuning of characters and group dynamics.

Both are obviously huge huge successes in the mmo world.  Guild Wars has an enourmous playerbase, and really they didnt feed up any false promises on what the game was.  Besides the people who tried the game by purchasing it instead of taking advantage of the free play times before retail, or buddy keys, I think the retail purchasers got exactly what was promised for the game.  So the guild war players that just didnt care for the game, probably arent giving it low ratings because they found they just didnt like the type of game that they bought.

WoW on the other hand, people who purchased it that have experience with earlier mmorpgs, know exactly what they were looking for.  They were hoping to find it in a product created and published by a well funded decently staffed company such as Blizzard.  having not found a new home those players will rate the game low.  Even though i dont recall any insane hype about innovations, I believe players went in expecting to find all the greatest things from other mmorpgs and the depth that could be afforded by large budgets.

Just my take on it though.  I have heard of top ranked guilds leaving guild wars, but usually I believe they are just burnt out and arent 'up in arms' to say Guild wars was a bad game.

    Guildwars nightfall votes: 500.

    WoW votes. 8000

Now you see why WoW is not first? More Votes= more average number, especially when you have so many people that makes of hating a game their profession.

In terms of graphics, game balance, flexibility of play style and competitive PvP(and ease of access to the PvP game), GuildWars knocks WoW into the floor several times over.

WoW does have a much more developed quest system and more idle content (such as the entire crafting system) but this is not generally so suited to the casual  gamer - it requires a huge time investment.

GuildWars also has some area's that require investment of time, but they are not critical to progress in the game.

When it comes down to pure content, WoW is the Walmart of the MMO world, but when its about actual game balance and the quality of content, GuildWars would be the Target of online games.

At the end of the day, each game appeals to it's own audience.
