Though i personnally cant wait to upgrade to a 7800 myself my radeon 9550 256 ram is KILLIng me.
Lower your settings of either resolution or detail levels, possibly read some of the threads with tips on adjusting graphics settings. Turn off background junk like download managers and updating utilities and make sure your system is well maintainted, Defrag your hard-drive after install etc. Overall press the [ key to reduce draw distance and ] key to increase it in game, 8km is vastly further than any other game draws, it's like comparing checking the first 8 shelves full of books at the library and checking all the books on the first 80 shelves.
http://vanguard.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=499 is a particularly in depth look at all the graphics settings in the interface.
Get another 1 gb stick of ram.
A "lag" at a chunk border is "normal" and can be improved with fast, faster, fastest harddrives or raids.
A "lag" due to yellow or red ping is network related. But almost noone seems to have that probalem in vaguard.
Low fps an stuttering is not lag, its just that the pC lacks somewhere at CPU, videocard, memory corresponding to the choosen settings. Hardwareupgrade or lower settings is the answer.
Then there is something i tend to belief its a problem of the software. teamplay is screwed. Maybe only on my PC. I have to look into that. Anyways. I am solo in the wild on 40 fps and as soon as i accept an invitation im extremely lagged. Altough i am still solo in the wild 1 km away from my team. As sayed, either bad software or something on my PC is bad. If the later, then most probably my network card. Some of the cheap ones need to much CPU time.
There is also a lag when a mob dies. I guess the sever needs to much time to lookup the loot table. In a team i have a 2 second freeze when a mob dies.
However, there is a lot of different "lag" and its not possible to help without knowing where and when the lag occurs.
