These forums aren't owned or run by Sigil or SOE. They aren't exclusively for Vanguard players. Many potential players will come here and read these forums and find useful information.
Both the good and bad reviews are worth reading. Just like good and bad comments from people who've played the game.
If you can't read criticism about the game without throwing around terms like 'retard'... well you're only going to make a bad impression on potential players about the kind of community that exists in Vanguard.
Finally someone with the intelligence and the guts to write a truthful review.
Huh?
First of all, as I mentioned this isn't a review, and I'm not pawning this off as a complete examination of the entire game, but more importantly I'm under no obligation to like Vanguard, and I'm not going to trot out the tired old conventions of picking out small and often insignificant things that don't suck to balance out against the overwhelming majority of things that do suck.
This isn't a review, it's a compilation of the author's experiences. I can search on these forums and find something very similar, albeit a little less well written. Plus, this is the internet. You can pretty much write anything you want with almost complete anonymity which, in my opinion, doesn't take too much guts.
Sorry, I don't mean to single you out, but I've seen this posted at least 3 or 4 times on this board with the same yay-a-review-that-knocks-this-game-to-the-ground attitude. Why in the world people like to see a game trashed in a very biased "review" is beyond me.
Why am I supposed to cancel my subscription again?
Thanks anyway.
AMEN, I fail to see why one 'anti-review' would change what I see in VG. I have been around MMO's far to long to even try to change the minds of others. All I can say is I like it and that is what maters to me. Like the author I could care less what others think. For me VG has compiled many of the features I have been looking for. Until a game comes out that has more of these features I will stay with VG. Hell there is a huge LOTRO fan base and I hate it so far. Every MMO gamer needs to make them selves a want list and then compare it to what the MMO's out there offer. My list would start something like:
Social Clothing
Player Housing
Non-fully clothed nude state (not naked, just not fully clothed)
FFA PvP
Player death drops
Player ships
Food with game world graphics
complex crafting
speech bubbles
Player made music (that other players can hear)
Mounts
Sitting in chairs
...and the list goes on. VG don’t have everything I want, but it has quite a few.
...in the end there was no Good and Evil only living and dead...
2)The sense of accomplishment I feel doing 'Anything' in the game.... even commuting from point a to point b (some don't like it, i do)
3) corpse runs... and the option to use the alter when you don't want to/can't get back to your corpse (some don't like it, i do)
4) The graphics (some don't like them.... noticing a trend here?)
5) The sense of game community I did not see in WoW.
6)The Lore
7) The quest diversity..... the quest where i had to run around catching stray dogs sticks in my mind...
8) The massive world..... the fact that it takes me 1/2 hour to get from one city to another on ONE continent is Massive.... I know alot of people say that it's empty space..... but all empty space can be filled as the story develops through expansions and, potentially, player events.
The not-zoning deadspace I could do without, the crafting tools broken and not fixed after 3 or 4 days or whatever it is i could do without, my appearance changing every time i log in i could do without, but i'm willing to put up with them because i see potential in the game.....
but, again, that's just me, and i'm(apparently )a vanboi, which totally invalidates anything I have to say regarding the game
"We aren't going to ... Period. End of statement."
While I've shared some angry moments at Vanguard's problems the past few weeks, it's clear by the visciousness of Elysium's rant that his mommy needed to nurse him a little longer. It's the most unprofessional piece of garbage I've ever read about an mmo. My first and last visit to that rag site. (Now my rant for the day is over.)
Its a totally biased and subjective rant............
I did however glean this one gem that rings true in my mind.

People are going to play regardless, I'v already bought the game and I don't even have my new rig yet. The bad reviews want keep me away, but I'm glad I have to wait a little to play because the game still has some issues to resolve. Otherwise I'm looking forward to playing.
Wow, that was one of the funniest things I've ever read. The author is not just incredibly funny, he is incredibly well spoken and can write really really well!!! The wit...the hilarity...the style....the skill!!!!! I want to read more of this guy's work. I haven't laughed that hard in like a week!
Yes, it was quite funny. Sadly, at least from my experience with VG, he's pretty much dead on.
It's also pretty funny how a lot of people responded to it with "I'm going to keep playing anyway" as if they're trying to convince themselves.
What's perhaps the funniest of all is that some people like the game (that's fine), and some are having major issues (that's fine too; I doubt they're all fibbing), but the people who are defending it like to mock and even insult the people having issues, as if there's really a need to do that other than to be insulting.

Hey if one does enjoy Vanguard, nothing else matters.
Well, that is to say that one is not mentally unstable and uses time-consuming or "difficult" MMO's as an escape from reality instead of a fun thing to do. Then it's a serious problem and it does matter. Note a specific difference between "escape from reality" in terms of escapism and the same in terms of having a fun immersive experience. There's nothing wrong with being immersed into a world to enjoy yourself. The problem is when you ESCAPE into the world to avoid yourself.
But besides people who use MMO's like others use drugs, getting drunk, etc. then if you like it, nothing else matters.
What matters in a video game is that you have fun. If you can enjoy the game despite its current flaws, then HURRAY! That's great. It's just that most people can't avoid an incredible amount of flaws, bugs, and an unfinished product.
But then again...I could be wrong. Especially when it comes to a public accepting horrible publishers and games released too soon. Quality DOES matter and we shouldn't stand for crap. So I'm probably wrong, it probably DOES matter, but oh well.
I tried Vanguard and wanted to have fun, but the game was just too buggy and unpolished for me to make a decision on it.
Comments
Been posted 3-4 times and that is hardly the only review out there.
None of them gave VG a good score, but that one does not deserve be reposted over and over.

AMEN! That applies to all MMO games.
Come now, we can be civil.

There are critics of every game...and supporters for every game (ok, not DnL) ..... this is just one more voice on the negative side.
They are just opinions.... based one people's personal preferences/tolerances.... to each his own....
I gave VG a trial, have decided its not for me...but not going to run around bashing the game every chance I get to prove some sort of "point".....
