Farming, seeds and frustration... Oh my!

Here I am, a silly li'l twat that just loves crafting and things like that.

And I must say I do love the farming aspect in this game.

But there are a few issues that do bug me...

As you weed farmers out there know each weed are supposed to have a special animation when smoked.

So I noticed the dragonbreath-weed and thought to myself; Oh wow, that must be a special tobacco!

So I started to venture along the path to make that special weed.

First I had to find that illusive and somewhat rare special seed called Lobelia, and so I did.

Then I had to grow enough of those seeds to get more Lobelia seeds to be able to cross-breed that seed with a store bought seed to get the Muddy-Foot seed.

After that it was time to grow enough of those seeds (the muddy foot ones) to cross-breed that one with another store bought seed to get the dragonbreath seed.

And why do I want the dragonbreath seed? I want it so I can make the dragonbreath weed and see that magnificent smoke animation!

And FINALLY I managed to get a bag of dragonbreath weed and I just couldn't wait to try it out.

So there I was waiting for something spectacular... and what happened? My character took a puff and looked very content (as always when she smokes) and then the animation were to start...

... ... ... Ehm ... ... ... a squiggle with a blob on a doo-hickey? What the hell was that???

Tried again. Still couldn't see what the poop it was supposed to be.

Gave away a few bags to a bundle of people so they would try it out and tell me what it was.

Not a single one could tell me what it was... someone said he saw a sail boat, another a snake and the third saw his girlfriend.

Guess it's one of those ink-blob things where you see what you see.

Bottom line; If a crafted item takes forever to make, shouldn't there be at least something special and/or magnificent about it?

(Also keep in mind that you have to buy a butt-load of recipes for hundreds of coins to even be able to cross-breed aof those seeds to get to the dragonbreath ones)

Yeah, I agree, it should. Did you post your concerns on the Beta Forums? That's the kind of feedback they need.

I wish I had... I am not able to access that page from here... (*whispers* I'm at work and some places are blocked. The beta-boards are one of 'em.)

But if you want I would be more than heppy if you posted it for me. I'm stuck here for another 6 hours or so.

Posted this under a thread entitled "Question about Dragonsbreath Pipeweed smoke animations"

I was talking with another tester and they mentioned that after they had went through the task of collecting and growing the Dragonsbreath Pipeweed, when they smoked it it didn't show an animation for them that they had expected from the Pipeweed's name.

Does anyone have any insight into this? They stated they also gave it to a few others and some saw snakes or a boat. Thanks in advance.

Edit: Oh, it's in the General Discussion forum if you want to check on it when you have access later.

Thank you dear... you're a peach!

The problem isn't really the animation per se, the problem is that it take a whole lot of effort, forever in time and loads of coins to get there.

So I felt a need to howler and moan here on the boards... hehe

No problem. You may want to add to it later as I didn't get the whole point of Return on Investment, as it is, heh. From the name I'd kinda expect a Dragon spewing Fires as the animation, or something along those lines.

Personally i couldnt care less about animations coming when smoking different kind of tobaccos. I mean smoking is neat rp feature alone but why spend time doing farming and crafting to get only clouds?

I would love idea that diffenrent kind of tobaccos give different buffs when smoked that last some time, maybe 30mins. That way you could sell em in ah and people would buy them cos they need em while soloing / partying.

  • WoodslingWoodsling Member Posts: 78

Nope, didn't shot a picture. But I have my whole pocket full of that dragonbreath-weed so I'll snap one as soon as I log in.

But right now I'm placing my bum on a chair and grabbing myself something so eat

Well then people, here's a picture of the magnificent dragonbreath weed. Or at least a picture of the puff of smoke it produces.

I can understand this concern, especially considering the difficulty the OP went through in making a certain seed. But I do like to see things in game that are not functional, but just for fun. The neat thing about this is that in the long run not a lot of people will pour hours into pipe-weed farming, but the ones who do will probably enjoy it all the more because of that fact.

I think I should post this on the beta forums, but what I would like to see is pipe-weed that lasts longer. Say if I'm stopping to chat with friends, wait for a fellowship member to arrive or semi-afk, I'd like to be able to start smoking some fancy pipe-weed that shows the special effect every ten seconds or so, but doesn't stop until I move. I'd also like to see pipe smoking only work with crafted pipe-weed. It seems a little silly that anyone can smoke without any pipe-weed.

  • KhalathwyrKhalathwyr Member UncommonPosts: 3,133
Hmm, that kind of looked like a...ship...maybe, heh. I don't know. I'm trying to quit smoking in real life so I've shyed away from taking the pipeweed in game. Yes, I know, reality versus fantasy, but if I start enjoying it in game it might make it tougher for me out. I know, I'm weak, but it's ok, really!

I would think that because of the weed's name the patter would look like a dragon (pretty obvious).

I'm not sure if thats what it really is but to me it sure looks like the real deal.

sort of like trying to see pictures in clouds, it does look like a dragon

I bought some pipeweed seeds tonight and did some farming, not sure what the attraction to the pipeweed is though other than for RP purposes, but I guess that is reason enough. At least when you drink too much beer the screen goes all wacko and your stats drop.

    I miss DAoC

I know, right? That brought me back to the days of EQ 1 and walking through the Wood Elf tree city drunk. Well, more like falling and dying alot, but it was entertaining!!!

i must agree with most people... it is very much like watching the clouds and trying to find a pattern.

How many of us would've seen a sphinx or a pyramid in that squiggle if the weed was called "Egyptian style weed"?

And about the picture, it's taken at the Forsaken Inn... and yes, I do think it's a hole in the roof. I blame the goblins! Mean li'l things destroying all in their path.... *grumbles*

I just have to reply on this comment.

Why spend time you say? For the very same reason I spend time dying my clothes, finding pretty trinkets and drinking "a flagon of wine" at the inn; Because I can.

Not only that, if I am supposed to be a farmer I really need to be the very best farmer there is, able to do everything on the list (and the special things that are supposed to be rare) in case someone somewhere asks me to produce it for them.

I take pride in my crafting when it comes to mmorpg's, always have and always will... and you know what? It's a good way of making a living. More people than you think is interrested in things like that. And "rare" produces are more sought after than average recipes. Thus resulting in a better price which they are more than willing to pay.

I can see it now, but it should be more obvious than that, maybe a dragon flying or red smoke. However I do agree with the OP that al that work seems a bit for nothing.

lol that's cool :D I also thought it's a boat on the sea at first, but when I saw the edited picture it really looks like a dragon :P
