probably you all know this but i think that this game might be the closest thing to the perfect mmo if it lives up to its expectations. if it wants to be the perfect game it would drop the monthly fee. but i guess we are gonna have to live with it. it has both rts and rpg elements in it. its not like other mmo's where you just point and click and thats it. you acutally are involved in the fight. you also get to build cities and defend them so gamers who like to build stuff would like this. you can fight on mounts to. so this game is for any type of gamer pretty much. this is why i think this game might be perfect.

If the fee is less than $15 I won't play it, because it won't be worth playing.
1 of 100 reasons why a fee is absolutely needed is that it cuts out a very large amount of kiddies. Of course kids can get their parents to pay the monthly fee just like they can get them to buy the M-Rated game to begin with. However both these things help to cut down on the under-aged and immature by at least 40-60%. If only we could find a way to cut down on the over-aged and immature.
There is no "perfect" MMO. People were saying the same thing about DnL and look what happened to that one.
It will be good, and they're trying to incorporate aspects from every genre, but when games do that, they run the risk of spreading themselves too thin, and then you wind up having a game that's a thousand miles wide and an inch deep.
Hopefully they're not going to spread themselves too thin. They already did so with the classes and had to trim those back. Lets hope they don't trim back current features too.
As it stands currently, it'll be a really good game, but it has to overcome some of the skepticism about it's various systems that haven't been done before in order to be really successful.

Wow... You people are idiots if you truly think 15 bucks as opposed to 9.99 a month is gonna cut the dreaded kiddies by 40-60 percent, where'd you come up with those numbers anyways? Please do tell.I have to agree.

Isn't AOC also going to be released on consoles? If so , pretty much blows any chance of getting what you're looking for...."True friends stab you in the front." | Oscar Wilde

But now? Im not so sure.
The day Funcom signed the deal to make AoC accessable on the xbox 360, is the day that this game sent alarm bells ringing in my head. You may think, "Great, with microsoft sponsoring them it gives them more money to develop the game with" but also remember Funcom are paid to perform, if AoC doesnt meet the xbox testers expectations, Microsoft will make demands.
The types of games that make it to the Xbox 360 are simple in nature. The storylines are involving and complex but the gameplay is linear. The games are designed to appease the average gamer aging from 12 to 20, they are designed to be easy to pick up and play, but to achieve that, they strip any level of complexity from the game.
I just dont see Console gamers going for the level of patience currently required in todays MMO's. Take a look at WoW or even Guild Wars, it achieved so many subscribers becuase it was simple in nature, pick up and play and it appealed to the console and casual audience. But look at MMO's previous to it, AO, DAoC, EQ, EVE, you could even use Vanguard, their subscriber levels are tiny in comparison, they are barely raking in the cash.
Microsoft want to tap into the MMO scene, they've been trying it for years, they tried it with Vanguard, but pulled out. Before that they were making a game called Mithra, but they cancelled it 6 months later. They know that this audience is a tough nut to crack, so they will want to appeal to the most profitable audience available... The casual gamer
I can see Age of Conan becoming a game for the Casual Gamer, perhaps not out of Funcoms choice, but out of encouragement from Microsoft. It will be simple in nature, pickup and play. Linear mob grinding with fast paced combat. It will be heavily storyline driven, probably through quests. Crafting will be simple and easy, interface will be bare basics and perhaps modable (if were lucky).
Im using alot of "will's" becuase you only need to look at the previous RPG's converted on development from the PC to Xbox to see this trend. Just take a look at the recently released Oblivion and compare it to its predacessor, its shocking.
Of course, 6 months down the line this could change, but the game would need to release in the same condition for the xbox (different configs) as for the PC. Funcom will not code two entirely different games, its just not financially feasable. The differences I can see between the two versions is that Console patches will be small if non-existant whereas PC patches will be freaquent and larger so perhaps there will be change if people dislike what they are playing.
Conclusion: I imagine AoC to be like linear and aimed at the casual gamer, with a minimum level of complexity.
But these are just my thoughts, and what is causing me caution when I consider buying this game. Perhaps im wrong? Im not a tester, I dont know.

Please do tell.Obviously I pulled 40-60% out of my ass, but compared to a $0 monthly charge(Teen or less rated game) those amounts may not be far off. I am of the opinion that 98% of those complaining about a fee, and even those complaining about $15 compared to $10 are kids or pre-teens that are concerned their parents won't pay over $10 a month or at all for AoC. Again this % smells like my ass, but I doubt I am wrong about this. If you are relying on your parents to pay I don't think you should play.
