Vanguard on an Intel Macintosh

Ok, so here's the deal.

I would like to at least try Vanguard, but we are a strictly Mac family. We recently purchased a 2.16 GHz dual-core intel iMac. It has been upgraded to 2Gs of ram (pending 3Gs), and has the 256 meg ATI Radeon X1600 video card. I will be partitioning the HD and installing either Vista or Windows XP. I was wondering if anybody has experience with playing PC games on an Intel mac, or maybe even Vanguard specifically.

PS--before you say "2.16 GHz won't cut it," Mac processors don't translate equally to traditional PC ones.

I have not tried it however I am a Apple tech.  The only problem you will probably encounter is going to be with the video card.  I would reccomend removing whatever driver XP finds during the install and seeing if there is a XP driver for it from your manufacturer.  Also, in the name of all things sacred and good in this world DO NOT TRY IT WITH VISTA.  It barely runs on a P.C.

Although I can not currently find a direct link to it, many forums as well as mmorpg journalists find that Vanguard runs better on XP than it does on Vista with the same system (even high end ones). I don't think Vista is up to date with many video card drivers yet because it is so new. Considering those system specs you should be able to run it fine.

Thanks for the quick replies, guys--and not giving me the typical "buy a PC" :)

I read elsewhere that XP was the best way to go, so I will go that route.

As for the drivers, I will check and see what I can find. Any more advice is appreciated!

Is your card ATI based or Nvidia?  Also, Are you talking about a G5 tower or a iMac?

It'll run like a champ. A Guildie plays on one, and runs it on High Quality easily. The only issue you'll experience is finding Drivers, but they are out there. Also,  don't go over 2G's Ram & use XP only.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

You did buy a PC - its just running the Apple O/S instead of windows. Thats why you can partition the harddrive and install Windows.

As someone else said - good Mac, the only weakness is the video card.
