Weapons

While looking up the classes for this game I came across What I asume is the list of Weapons each class can use, In abreaviated form.

Im to lazy to serch the internet for list of what they stand for, so does anyone know what all the weapons types are, and their corrasponding abreaviation?

Plus anyone know exotic weapons like Katars, katana, tonfa, ect. will exist? or has that info not yet been revealed?

Assuming we are thinking about the same list...

1HE- one handed edged: axes, swords, short swords, etc. Note: daggers are not included in this category

1HB- one handed blunt: hammers, maces, flails, etc.

2HE- two handed edged: claymores, large axes, bastard swords, etc.

2HB- two handed blunt: warhammers, large maces, etc.

Note: the weapons each character can use are NOT limited to just what is mentioned. For example, a Guardian can pick up and use a two handed warhammer with a good degree of skill, but won't have the full benifit of his character's intrinsic abilities to back its use up.

A good example of this is Anarchy Online, Funcom's last game. It is not at all uncommon to see characters using weaponry and other equipment that is not normally ascribed to their class. For example a Doctor can dual wield machine guns if he/she so chooses

thanks, and im glad you added that other part.

I was of the mindset that the weapons were totally class restricted.

But any idea is Claws, Katars, Cestus's, would go within the 1HE, 1HB, spots?

I noticed on the maps that Asian type cultures exist, as well as middle eastern, so i hope that means there weapons are useable to all races

Presuming they do not have some special set of weaponry list, such as Martial arts weapons or something like that:

Katars- Most likely to be under Piercing

Claws- Most games consider them slashing, but some have placed them under piercing. This is one of those weapons very hard to speculate about, as there are fighting styles and moves that change exacly how this weapon is used.

NOTE: I've not read a whole lot about the weaponry expected to be in AoC, so I am not sure if such weapons are even to be in the game. You can probably count on some of the more famious Egyptian weaponry being in the game for the race that ties closest to the culture modled after the history that part of the world.

We have seen glimpses of some exotic weaponry, but not yet any of the types you mentioned, then again, we haven't seen much in terms of weaponry at all.

It is however important to note that the cultures you mentioned won't be directly affecting the game's scope. If any of the weapons are there, they will be imports. Oh, and I think weapons such as the claws might be listed for those with daggers or 1HE skill.

Polearms will also feature in the game (pole axes, bardiches, etc.).

Hate to say it, but AO used the same system of abbreviations.

When it comes to weapons I hope the following:

High Level Player Craftman craft the absolute best weapons except maybe a few very very rare magical items....very very rare.

Again, there are very very few Magical Weapons and Items. Weapons should be judged on the material they are made from(Bronze, Iron, Steel, Bone?) and the skill of the crafter.

Weapons are not insured at all and, though I doubt they will implement this, lootable. For an example of why this is needed just look at UO. Pre-Trammel GM Smiths were in high-demand and made as much or more than dungeon crawlers selling their armor and weapons to PvPers or said Dungeon Crawlers who constantly needed to restock. Post-Trammel it was much much harder to lose your gear and therefore less need for weapons making smiths all but obsolete. Eventually UO F'd it up with Insurance and way too many funky ass magic weapons.

Lastly I like to see a good Paper-Rock-Scissors spin to weapons. For instance some weapons are faster but do less damage while others are slower but do more damage. I guess this has always been done but with games like WoW the emphasis is more on which weapon you own is the most magically powerful rather than what your own personal style of combat is.
