I have the just below the recommended specs for Vanguard yet it runs soooooooooo slowly. Does anybody know if this is to do with the game or is it vista which i am using.
I topped out at something around 100+ fps i some areas. The world is very rich and good looking on my brand new pc, but it stil empty in the way I was hoping a new mmorpg wouldn't be.
If you are playing to the minimum specs then its likely to be your rig, but without seeing what your specs are i cants really say Trying turning off the sound and lowering the graphics settings and also changing clipping to around 36-75000 see if this improves it there are sticky in this forum on tweaks to use to boost you FPS i curently get between 30-50fps in teh wild which drops when i enter towns to around 10-30 fps
ROFL.. you need to turn off the sound to play VG at a good FPS on rig a little below rec specs. Sigil are fast becoming the joke of the MMO world, seem SW:NGE is goona loose it crown.
I tend to think it's because the game program engine is not optimized. Of course, if you fanbois out there want to flame me and say that it is too optimized, gads.....I hate to think what that would mean for the game.......
Vanguard is so clunky because it's really in a state more akin with beta that with a full fledged realease like is should be. If you search though the forums a bit, you will find people bitching about the same performance issues on any system. I knew something was funny when I had to tweak out my .ini file because the developers could not set up a viable and working way to do it through the UI. Then when I played LotRO beta, I realized how bad the graphics really were. Don't get me wrong, there is some solid (albeit boring) content in this game, but when it looks like EQ with a bit of a graphics overhaul, but runs like molassas in a snow storm... Common, it just that the Devs ran out of money and support and were forced to release this crap at it current state to try and make some money.
I have to be honest and agree, i dont think the engine is fully optimised yet, Servers till suffer memory leaks, last night for example we spent 15 mins in a safe area waiting for packet loss to stop so we could go hunt
TBH i dont play many games with sound, i am deaf so it makes no difference to me whether sound is on or off, and some peoples rigs (esp min spec) use to many resources that would be better used for graphics and FPS as opposed to sound (my sound cards sucks but as i said my reason above and i see no reason to but new one if i aint using it)

LoL, VG optimized yeah right, kinda feel sorry that Sigil had to boot kick their baby of an mmorpg off to the curb before it even had a thick enough skin to stand up to all the different flavor systems that were going to be thrown at it. DAoC had memory leaks up until about two years after release, and that game had less computer muscle to squander, and a rougher game to deal with. I mean Vanguard how often will you run across 500+ players in one area. I miss crashing servers while trying to raid relics.
Best of luck to Sigil, maybe they can fight away enough funding from Sony for a trip to amsterdam to snap them out of whatever trip they are on, and add some fun into the game.
Oh and i forgot to mention this plays best on XP as opposed to Vista, due to drivers i believe one poster has mentioned on another thread, as Vista is so new most drivers sre bit 'clunky' with it but once they update them for Vista it should run like a dream
Wow you guys, it's only been out officially for 1 month, and it isn't a terrible game. It's pretty good actually. Lots of big MMORPGs have suffered big problems in the beginning, but I forgot everyone is jaded nowadays, which is the reason many MMORPGs die.

If that's true then you would have thought the developers would have learned their lesson and turned out a polished product.
But they continue to push unfinished crap out the door hoping that people will buy it based on "Hype" or "Potential" or any other cool catchphrase that you choose. I tend to buy games based on "fun","playability","value"..
Never be afraid of choices. More choices are always good things.
LOL, well hot damn Ivan, you keep this up and i'm gonna go home and make my wife change her name too . . .
Nice I have a fan club of 1.
More choices are good, but more flavors of the same old crap isn't doin' any of us homeless gamers any good. and if people keep buying the different brands of saltines, no one will ever bother making the great fresh tortilla chips and fancy dips that we are all really dreaming of.

If I was buying saltines, why would I want to eat tortilla chips?
I think you're in the wrong isle and that's why you're so dissatisfied. But then you wouldn't have anything to bitch about, right?
Woops, I'm a hypocrit.
Note: Gnomic expressions don't make you look any smarter or cooler.
It was just a design choice. Sigil chose to develop the game to run well on higher end PC's less than 1 year old, preferably with one of the 7900+ series nvida cards. (heard it actually runs poorly on the 8800 due to driver issue)
My friends with these types of rigs can run the game on Highest Quality and still get a decent framerate. Me, with my 2.5 year old Dell XPS laptop... struggles to average 10-24 fps with settings on High performance and some of that tweaked off.
Pay no attention to those minimum specs... (esp if you are under them)..... Go with the recommended specs and you'll probably be happier.

omfg! almost exactly my own sentiment! The world looks like OLD EQ, the character models are too cartoonish like WoW and the towns reminded me of DAoC...yay...a blend of old gen MMOs...and yeah, I couldn't move for squat, even with optimizations, although granted in my case I was not far about the minimum specs with my old box.

Yeah guy, I played it during CB, so maybe it has improved since then, but from everything I have read, it hasn't. It may well have its good points, every game does, but man, when the lag/fps is so bad it reminds of old Kunark...that's just way past bad. I want to go forward in time with my games, not backward.
Trying turning off the sound and lowering the graphics settings and also changing clipping to around 36-75000 see if this improves it
Yes, great advice!! To the OP didn't you know what Brad meant my 3rd gen was playing with NO SOUND? Now that is what I would call hardcore! I can't wait for 4th gen games to come out....
with the first screenshots and videos from vanguard i beeing impressed, i let impress me from sigil.. i know most of videos and screenshots from gamecompanys are just propaganda and the game dont look like showed on this media. after i joined beta 3 i see the "real" vanguard and it disappoint me basically, i hoping the final version of it would be much better but as we know here is no big different between beta and "final".
my main question at brad mcquaid would be: why does it took so long to develop vanguard saga of heroes (i think 3-4 years)?
is it the questing system? it seems so. connecting tones of average quests with other ones can take time, yes i see no other reason because:
bad animations of characters (the half giants are the best example)
a lack of different designed items (no helmets, lvl 25 items having the same design like lvl 5 items or getting just placeholder textures)
bugged combat system (they work on it)
bugged grouping/ groups
several crafting bugs
out of date gameengine with terrible performance
no anti-aliasing
memory leak
the missing from two player classes (berserker and inquisitor)
dont know much about exploiting, duping and cheating ..
LOL, well hot damn Ivan, you keep this up and i'm gonna go home and make my wife change her name too . . .

Note: Gnomic expressions don't make you look any smarter or cooler. if you want polished poo, instead of something more interesting to kick around. Well thats fine. But your polished poo and my pong XT 2010 Collectors edition end up on the same shelf at the stores, and happens that the funding for poo polishers and innovators, sloppy coders, and efficient coders, are drawing from the some pool.
Im not a hater or a lover of the game. I run the game comfortable on AMD Sempron 3200, 2gigs of ram, 7900GS. I get on 40-70 in the open, and 15-30 in the towns. I found it is best run on Xp, in Vista my FPS drops to half of what i get on XP.
Hitching has all but disapeared for me ( Diskeeper ftw!!! ), and they finally got rid of the mob disapearing bit (thank god). I agree with most on these boards when they say the art work is bland, but im not really playin a game for its artwork . The game does have an old EQ flare to it, but so do pretty much all MMO's.
You pretty much have to have 2 gigs of ram and 7900 series plus card to play this game comfortable IMO, but i've seen those with 6800 series cards say they can play comfortably.

The sad part about this LiveZero, is that the Vanbois and the supposed "haters" are so busy arguing with each other their not even considering helping you at this point.
Unfortunately as someone who owns a very high end gaming system, even I experienced poor performance. Here are some linkes that may help you though.
To start with http://www.silkyvenom.com offers a great many good services for Vanguard players, it has a Sigil kiss ass forum (otherwise known as an official partner) but more importantly to you, Fozzik has compiled some great how-to's, tweaks and hardware guides that almost anyone can follow.
Next would be the official Tech Forums. Although I've found them next to completely useless (thanks for that Sigil !) there are some things I'd read there.
http://forums.station.sony.com/vg/forums/show.m?forum_id=15Read other player issues, the people on this forum will have you believing the game is delivered by god and is fine, don't buy it. By reading other player issues though, you might find some helpful tips to making the game playable for you.
There is also a list of these supposed "partner sites" (I call 'em the kiss ass sites) at the VG links page, you can find that here http://vgplayers.station.sony.com/links.vm .
Well hope some of that helps. To the rest of you, it's pretty damn bad when someone who doesn't even like the game is helping a newbie in the community, you might want to reconsider that whole superiority thing you've got going on in here.

True what most say about the engine not yet fully optimized, but i also feel that the min.system.requirements that Sigil placed are not correct and think that the recommended specs better suite to be the minimum spec to play Vanguard (atleast less chunky). I'm a lucky one and well above rec.specs but i do wished that the engine would be more optimized so that friends of mine and everyone else can also experiance and the glory of the game.
ps take a good note at Shae's post, some good stuff to help..gj Shae
There's lots of tweak threads all over, but defrag your hard-drive and edit your vgclient.ini with notepad
the most important setting in there is TextureDetailWorld=5 (this controls the texture details, raising this to 5-7ish can save you a significant amount of memory and reduce stuttering. This can range from 0-7, 0 being the most detailed textures to 7 being lowest texture detail)
RenderQuality=5 (Setting this to 5 sets the game into "very high" mode but coupled with a higher TextureDetailWorld setting, it will give you the special effects of very high with the memory requirements/stuttering of a low or medium settings)
