Hi there!
Don't know how many already know about this game (http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/setView/overview/gameID/282 ). At the moment it is also called the chinise "WoW" (over 30million registered players). A game which is very popular in the eastern country, especially chinise. However at the moment they are working on the international version called: Perfect World International which will soon be released in the philippines with an english version (more Info here: http://www.levelupgames.ph/perfectworld/index.html ).
The awesome thing with this game is that it really combines some very good features of some very good mmorpgs -> WoW, FFXI, Lineage 2 and puts some nice new gimmicks on top! Through some forums and help I could create an account for the chinise version and now I have already played it. Surely its very hard to play a chinise game where you dont understand anything.. but with the help of some people there who could speak english and the very helpful guild I am in now, I could see much about this game already... really awesome!
Combat is fast paced, graphics are very good (also great animations and combat feeling), it has very nice unique features and the best character customisation you have ever seen. There is also no real grind involved, nice pvp, city battles etc.! I guess if they do localized servers and make a good translation to english, this game will compete very well with our western mmorpgs like WoW etc.!
As you can read here: http://www.wanmei.com/en/wanmei.htm they really want to push this game out into the world soon!
I myselve cant await to get my hands on the philippine version which should come out in maybe april. I already love the chinise version. So keep your eyes out on this, you may be surprised, it already got many rewards in chinise and feels like a very well made and complete mmorpg
Kind regards,
LD

Territorial Battles
The game divides the whole terrain into smaller domains and has a built-in territorial battle system where clans and factions can build, arm and fortify a city or multiple establishments at the same time. Fortify the captured city with catapults and armaments to effectively guard your location against opposing attackers who are keen on expanding their territory.
High detail character customization
The game allows players to customize character features from head to toe. Every detail of the human body: hair style and color, facial features such as distance of the eyes, shape of the brows, body shape, skin color, torso size, width of limbs, etc., can be customized using a unique slider system that offers full control to the user. Using this customization system makes each character unique.
Battle in Land, Sea and Air
Each character and class in Perfect World has the special ability and peripherals to fly, trek, and swim in different terrains. Inherent attributes, special equipments, summons or even mountable animals make it possible for characters to not only fly, trek, and swim but also to duel and clash on any of the terrain. Perfect World created a world with flying monsters and floating cities and ruins, all waiting to be explored.
Massive Quest/Mission System
The game itself has more than 5,000 quests waiting to be discovered and completed. Quests can be race- and class-specific. Instance quests are available for players who would like to make their own adventures.
Huge continuous terrain
The entire game world is within one large map that requires no loading or no changing of maps so players can move around without waiting for scenes to change.
Day, Night and Weather Shifting
The game shifts from night to day and sunny to rainy season on a regular cycle, changing the view of each area to suit the time. This “real world” effect will immerse the players more effectively in the game.
16:9 Widescreen Mode
Allows players to play in widescreen mode to simulate a movie-type experience.
Perfect World Mailing System
This enables players to communicate with their online and offline friends, clan mates or factions. Aside from mail, items can also be sent through this unique system.
Perfect World Messenger
Perfect World has an in-game messenger that allows players to easily keep track of and chat with friends. The messenger always works, even if you’re outside the game.
Player Chatrooms
Chatting among players is now made easier with in-game chatrooms, allowing easy and clear communication among them.
Personalized Clothing
With this feature, one can truly express him/herself through his/her in-game character. Players have more options when it comes to what their character wears. They can even design their own in-game clothes.
Crafting System
Each crafted item is unique as the item will bear the crafter’s name.
Item Upgrading System
When a player upgrades his/her items, the item will have a glowing effect, the color depending on what gem was used.
Double Experience Option NPC
Leveling is easy with the Double Experience Option. A non-playing character (NPC) can provide 12-14 hours of 2x EXP per week (non-stackable) at the discretion of the player.
Martial Training System
This system allows you to train your character and improve its martial combat skills. Now players can be sure that the warrior they send to battle will dominate in the battlefield and bring you honor.
Riding Pet System
Pets are not just companions in Perfect World. Players can train their pets, mount them and use them as a means of transportation.
Partner Ride Systems
Mounts can accommodate up to two players at the same time, enabling you assist a fallen comrade and bring him to safety during a battle, or take a nice stroll in the woods or fields with your in-game loved one.
Sounds very intresting.
Indeed and all I can say is that I can confirm what they say ! The international version already includes Taiwain, Japan and another country. Their next step is the philippines version (so english!)... as you mentioned, its very rare that such games get such a large localisation... so it must be really successful there, which I got confirmed by some chinise I met in the game. I am happy that some of them can speak english and so they helped me out and explained me a bit more about the game mechanics in general!
I am just level 9 now, I did only level with quests, there are several different kinds of quests, crafting is also in (you can gather materials like in wow). The graphic engine feels very good (at least on my high end system - dont know hwo it would be on a lower end system). Also the thing that you can carry the other gender is very nice and very well implemented. You also move and jump in this game a bit like you know from the movie "Tiger & Dragon" the typical chinise myth ! I was first a bit suspicious about this but jumping on the roofs of the houses looks and feels awesome. I have already seen many different mounts and items... in this area it feels strongly like WoW - very lovely done. But the possibility to have combat in air, sea and land and the nicely implement pvp system makes it really stand out.
All I can say is I BEG for the english version . Even if philippines will have a bad ping, like the chinise servers have now, I am sure we can live with that till the american/england version comes out.
Kind Regards,
LD

Impressive feature list to be sure although I have to say, if something sounds to good to be true... well, blah blah blah.
Certainly sounds interesting though, time will tell.

shae, then I have already good news for you
First off they dont need to say features to get subscribers... in chinise its f2p and has already over 30m registered users... and well I am too playing this game. Believe me one thing I played many different MMORPG (from UO to SWG, from AC, Lineage 2, WoW etc.), but this game really has potential. Like I said I am playing the chinise version right now and the game itselve feels very polished and good already, even that the international version just left beta in january. I am absolutely sure if they can make a good translation together with co-located servers, it will be a great hit! And what I can read they really try to do that... and yeah I know that many companies talks MUCH to achive this (I am waiting for a really good and new mmorpg now over a year), but all I can say is that at LEAST I have played this game already and can say it has an awesome feeling (even if its in chinise!)!
Still its always better to never set your expectaion too high.. this game is surely not a uberdrubermegagraphicsimbahit... it just takes the good components from wow, l2, ffxi and maybe some other... and adds some new features and nice graphics to it with a very well made engine... ! But well ... in the end, what do you want more... alone the chinise music theme is a pleasure to listen to
Kind regards,
LD
P.S. If you want more info, just ask I can try to get answers from my chinise friend there...

Be honest to the readers?its the same ol same ol asian type game right?swinging weapons at unrealistic speeds?killing is unrealistic in that its non stop never needing a rest?Does it use heal pots?
I know asian games like to use bright colours, wich i agree give a game a nice look feel, however this game is playable on a 32mb video card, wow that is old school graphics. The polycount must be super low for a 32mb vieo card to play this game.I am sure its the usual a couple trees spotted around the extremly plain terrain with mainly just mobs?H ave you played ILKROAD? its along the same lines as all the asian free to play games, looks decent for cheap graphics and is fun to play for a couple months but then it gets boring real fast.
Weapons upgraded glowing thats nothing new to asian games they ALL follow the same idea. Most i should say no doubt ALL these free to play games are infested with mega bot farmers that sell in game currency and items, because all the players want those fancy dancy glowing weapons lmao.
I tried to find a video of the gameplay but i couldn't.I really wanted to see if they have broken out of the very linear gameplay, that so many asians seem to like .I want more from a game than just 5000 mph sword swinging and endless killing /heal pot using battles. The double experience again is nothing new,and please tell people if this is using a RMT virtual market, because i am sure it does and that is a dead giveaway the game isn't worth playing .The more you people support these vurtual world trading games, the more we are going to see,as this is a very big money maker for games, more so than a mnthly subscription. These f2p games are infested with millions of accounts, but the games really are not free to play, someone is fitting the bill, and the RMT invaders have no probs loading thousands of accounts because it costs nothing.I bet when you hit level 30+ the grind is so insane ,because they design it that way. They try to hook you with ease of gameplay ,then after you feel like you have invested too much time to quit, the game gets bad/slow real fast.BAm they hooked you.Unless your like me and have no prob leaving a game when it gets bad.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Dude, took me 2 seconds to find a zillion movies for this game on youtube

Not that you are gonna actually be open minded or anything about it. Sounds like Vanguard is more your speed. (hehehe, sorry couldn't resist)
Man, if western game companies keep pumping out these unfinished messes of games, we are going to be in serious trouble soon when no one wants to invest in MMO developement here because of the sh*t track record.
You might be right on the combat, I watch a few of the gameplay movies, very "signature" of Asian games.
Anyway, who knows anything at this point? If someone likes it and wants to play it, who cares? We are all big people here able to draw conclusions on our own. What are you so huffy about? This pitting Asian against western games is really worn out. Asian games pretty much work and deliver what they say but are more limited in scope and gameplay where Western games promise the moon but are subject to massive technical problems and resulting continuous revamping but have much greater scope. Gameplay is pretty much similar. (combat/level/grind based) Your points are basically individual preferance. Vanguard would have been a great example of diverse gameplay but its to busy impaling itself on technical issues....
Wow, you must be really mad on all those asian mmorpgs ! Really hard words for someone who dont knows much about this game.
Well, but at least I can feel with you and some points are definately valid, especially if we are talking about the most common asian type of MMORPGs...! However, I can assure you , that I played many different Eastern games myselve too, from Silkroad, RF Online to Archload etc. ! No this game is really absolut different. Also this game is made by chinese and not as most others MMORPG from japan or korea (till this chinese "Wow" , china never had their own big mmorpg!). So there is really no similarity between them - it feels more like WoW and like those chinese films "Tiger & Dragons". There is also no insane kill speed, just fast paced (its not cabal etc.) and there is no korean like grind (every mmorpg will have some kind of grind - otherwise it wouldnt be a mmorpg ) !
I already talked to one of the chinese players and he also told me that wow is wide spread in china but he told me that most of chinese like PW more because WoW needs too much time. I was curious what he meaned and so I asked further... he then told me that he and his friends dont have the time to do 25-40 instances for good equip and in PW all instaces are for a max of 6 people and you get awesome loot there. So I think the leveling and items are very similar to WoW and no typically you need to play the inflated market system! I can also confirm that as I got most of my equip now at level 9 from quests and loot.
And regarding the RMT I have to say I absolutely agree with you... and as far as I found out in PW its only to get the glowing items or more beatiful things to fly with (but they need some kind of income if its F2P). Even if I am absolutely against the RMT, this way we are at least mostly safe from botters and farmers. I also didnt see any game breaking important items in this store... but that is something I have to ask them again (as I can only judge from icons, not from item description ) ... but I am sure they can give me a bit more insight on this.
However I hope I could address your concerns, kind regards,
LD

L2 had good points? Don't remind me of that shit.
<looks through features>
Sounds impressive....not really. I'll have to see it to believe that the PvP is meaningful and not instanced.
Here is another Trailer Movie of Perfect World, also with the original PW Theme... you hear this song as soon as you enter the game Login Screen (I love this song as I love the ingame music)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VrEkhe8kyY
And I can't tell it often enough... the game is really no korean grind game. It fits totally into this "Hero" and "Tiger and Dragons" Movie theme (the flying and the possibilty to slowly jump "high")... It really has a beautiful art and is very well made. Chinise seem to do things different then all the other eastern MMORPGs.
I dont know the character customisation of Sims2, but all I can say is I havent seen such a character creation feature in any mmorpg as of yet. You have so many possibilties... you also have the freedom to choose nearly any color for hair, skin, eyebrowns, eyes, beard etc. (even black and white is possibly - very rare in such games).
Kind regards,
LD

Well here is one more I enjoyed watching....it looks like it gives a sample of each race / class in action
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rLalTYjJPM&NR
Hey vanillatea, usually people are moaning about Asian games not having enough customization (which is usually true)
I guess time will tell if the gameplay is any good. Looks pretty standard to me from what I can tell. It looks pretty nice visually from what I can tell.
Yep gameplay is very standard... you can play with WASD or with point and click. Control feels similar to WoW, you dont feel any lag while moving (only when sing skills - due to my high ping to china)! Jumping and walking is also possible which looks very good. The interface is not as cold as Lineage 2 but als not as colorful as WoW... I would say its inbetween. Everything is quick accessible via hotkeys - there is some modification possible too (colors, windows rearrangment, adjustable hotbars etc.).
This game is all about that not everyone looks the same (so not like most other eastern mmorpgs). From the characer customisation to the "social clothes" ! This game has the option to switch between your normal cloth to the social clothing (same as the different sets in vanguard). Also you can create your very special social clothings with crafting etc. ! I just began with crafting but its too difficult without knowing all the items names... for now I am only harvesting some different kind of materials for some nice money
Oh and in the movie which Tarok posted you hear some of the ingame music scores. Very beatiful and relaxing music during gameplay, at least it absolutely fits my taste . I also like the PW theme song very much.
Kind regards,
LD

Hey to all, just browsing in MMORPG.com and saw this post... and I do play this game (the "international ver." which is Simplified Chinese version of it, and waiting for my brother to buy the Traditional version, which is for Taiwan & HK).
It's not that bad when compare to all the Asian MMO out there. The character creation system, the look of things, the combat system, the questing system, are all pretty well done. Of course, if you are into Asian mythology, and you understand the language, it'll be easier to play, but even if translating it into English, my guess is that if you are not into the lore and mythology, you won't get that deep into it. So far this is one of the better-made Asian mythology based game... it's a bit different than martial art games, but the premises are almost the same. So if you are into Asian, especially Chinese culture, this is a fun game to play. One of the fun aspect in this game is that you can hug and kiss other players (only male char and female char... the same-sex characters are not allowed... ) That is one of the attraction for this game, that it shows emotional expression pretty good.
Of course, there are good and there are bad, after a while the combat feels like all other Asian MMO (the use of pot), and that the Item Shop system isn't the best (I know many of you guys don't like it, but this is normal for Asian MMO to do if they are f2p, or would you rather pay monthly fee for this game?)
Anyways, if you guys want to ask more stuff, let me know...
Oh, almost forgot, THIS IS NOT A RUMOR!!!
There will be a game that's coming out to the Asian MMO market. Soft-World, a Taiwanese game company, partner up with a Singaporian 3D design team, is developing a game called Xenjo Journeys (this is the english name for it, at least it is on the screen shots) This game is based on a online novel, and the story is similar to that of the Perfect World, but different. It's Chinese Mythology in Space... kinda funny, but you have to read the novel to understand...
This game will be pushed for PC and Xbox 360 sometimes this year... Unlike FFXI, this game will let players from PC and Xbox 360 to play on same server(s). Meaning if you own both copy, you cna play on either your PC or Xbox 360...
Supposely Soft-World is still in negotiation with Microsoft over the Xbox LIVE stuff. And that it is said that this game might be out in March, but so far I checked many Asian game sites, and have not gotten more information out of it...
Just thought you guys would want to know if you are thinking of playing Perfect World.
Current MMO: FFXIV:ARR
Past MMO: Way too many (P2P and F2P)
Like I promised in an earlier post... I have good answers for you regarding the RMT wihtin this game. I just asked a friend in PW... he told me that the RMT is really only for items which are luxury but dont influence the gameplay. There are NO weapons or Armors to buy etc. ! Mostly Fashion Items, flying things, pets and other nice to have things, like Scamm protector items etc. (whatever those do )! But nothing which makes you really better or so! I guess that was one thing that concerned some of you... just wanted to clear this up now
Regarding the farming and botters situation, he told me that he heard of them but never found one. I have also watched out for them in the starter areas and so, but except 1-2 strangly named characters (fgdfgdfg - I guess those were farmers, but well at least no bots as they reacted to me) nothing suspcious found...! Also they say that they ban regulary.
And regarding the previous poster... you cannot only kiss the others gender person you can also carry them. And you can carry them even while mounted etc. So a man can carry a woman in his arms, while riding, flying etc. ! This is a very nice and easy feature but very well implemented (looks nice). Who never wanted to save your beloved in a fight and try to bring her out of the battlefield
Kind regards,
LD
