yes you can but since it's not totally supported by vg yet it can cause issues with the overhead npc names either not showing or only half show etc. etc. I had this issue until the 100.65 drivers came out for the 8800 once i upgraded to it my AA seems to work fine now.
Gawd, I hope so at least. It'll fix most of the problems.
I dont think you understand the concepts in play here. DX10 is already part of Vista and has NOTHING to do with Vanguard. Vanguard is a DX9 game and always will be. DX10 will do nothing to fix it.
VG will not always be a dx9 game atleast according to the devs, they stated in the past the a dx10 version is possible in the future more than likely in an expansion.
Yep they said that, but thats goona be costly and time consuming I dont see VG making enough $$$ to justify the switch, plus if it run like a snail on dx9 imagin it on dx10.
Gawd, I hope so at least. It'll fix most of the problems.

i do see vg making enough money to justify it, but yes it would be time consuming as they would have to completely redo all the artwork with the new features of DX10, but i do believe it will happen especially if they get the money coming in.

Vanguard with DX10 support won't be happening any time soon. If it happens, that would be in a couple of years the earliest.
Upgrading to DX10 is not something done easily, cheaply, and fast. It's not like upgrading your engine from DX8 to DX9, since DX10 is a entirely new code base and does stuff completely different. While DX9 was just a upgrade of DX8.
A upgrade to DX10 would mean a total recode of the engine, and the engine is the Unreal engine. Meaning that Sigil hasn't made the entire thing. The Unreal engine was made for DX version pre DX10. So most likely a switch to DX10 would mean a new graphics engine for Vanguard, maybe the UE 3 (Or well, it doesn't fully support DX10 either, but maybe will). With others words it's highly unlikely we would see any DX10 with Vanguard the next few years.
Except that everything I mentioned could be done with DX8, FFS. I don't see how upgrading to DX10 would help, if it's just be even more technology for them not to utilize.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
Rewriting an entire graphics engine to use direct x 10 calls won't fix a badly implemented engine, DX10 isn't an engine just an API.
You couldn't run Vanguard on DX8, DX8 uses a different shader version and the version it did have was pretty crappy. Shadows and all that fancy fog stuff are all done with Shaders these days.

I had read this as well quite some time ago. There are a few games converting to DX10 including LOTRO.
So what does this mean? This could mean that these games will support the DX10 drivers, but doesn't necessarily mean that the graphics will change much (ie. looking like Alan Awake or AOC) or even support all the achitecture/performance of the DX10 cards.
You wan't to add things like Shadows, Fog , Reflective water , colored lighting to an engine that allready runs like a Pig ? you made need to buy 2 Mainframes to run the damn thing if they add that stuff .. Best thing for them to do is give the engine to turbine for 6 months & have them fix it ...
hahahaha toooo true. Turbine has found some really nice way to make their engine absolutely supurb. if V:SoH ran as smooth as LOTRO.... well dang, I would put off buying my new comp for quite a while...

Since when can't games be upgraded to better suit higher levels of Direct X?
I do remember a time LONG LONG ago when EQ went from DX8 required to DX9 and I noticed a HUGE DIFFERENCE in gameplay performance.
I stand by my previous statement based on past experiences.
They would have to recode the engine to support DX10 instead of DX9 to get any performance issue bonuses, without the dedication of the client clinching to DX10 configurations it will never do jack, except like I previous stated more depth to the game, better shaders, lights, etc. This has to do with your video card, your DX10 video card will push out that extra stuff because it's programmed to do so, it has nothing to do with what the client does.

Not for a *long* time. At some point, you do have to upgrade an MMOG to a more recent version of DX, but it's when the currently used version becomes several (2-3) versions behind (we did this in EQ too). Definitely nothing to worry about for 1-2 years minimum I wouldn't think. (This answer is courtesy of Silky Venom)

ROFLMFAO. Really? Maybe they should complete the game before trying to implement a completely different graphics API. I never thought I would say this but Vanguard is an evolving joke. It gets funnier every day. I noticed in the patch notes they have made the teleporters permanent and more elaborate. SOE/Sigil are waving the noob wand already. PATHETIC.

All this talk of DX10 falls right in line with that. I ask when the current engine will be finished, and people respond with how upgrading to DX10 will be just as good, or even better? No. It won't. It's completely backwards. If you bite off more than you can chew, you don't go fixing it by biting off even more.
Don't think the new teleporters are meant to be permenent, though. In-game, they stil still say "TEMP" over thier heads.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
No. It won't. It's completely backwards. If you bite off more than you can chew, you don't go fixing it by biting off even more.
You have summarized the development of Vanguard very well there. The engine is finished (as was when they bought rights to use it, heck they didn't even get he newest version in favor of an older one considered more stable), the issue is that no one at Sigil has any idea how to properly optimize a graphics system. People have been saying that since betas, but were blown off being told that by retail release it would be smooth since the debugging code would be removed increasing perfrmance. Didn't happen that way. Sigh, I hope this current state of the MMO genre dies out fast as it is truly testing the patience of consumers.
Agreed, SOE's Bullsh*t tactics have reared their ugly head and thats my cue. I promised myself I wouldn't stay around if this stuff started happening. Double XP weekends and "wonder" patches that are apparently going to show up the day after 1st month billing. Nice try SOE/Sigil. Fool me once shame on me (SWG) Try to fool me twice, shame on you.
This is Brad's BS not SOE's (ew I feel dirty actually defending SOE, that just isn't right somehow). Brad mislead everyone even M$ (again I am defending M$ something is just not right today) so they kicked him to the curb. He ran to SOE who bet a calculated risk. They put very little actual money into the development out of the total. They realized Brad was BSing them and they forced a release or would kill the project. Brad opt'd for release and we now have the game promised by Brad...oh wait Brad BSed the players even more than his funders.
Oh and concerning DX10, while it would up FPS due to reduced video card load (over heard is reduced for many many things) you can't add frames to an animation that does not exist. Combat would still look as clunky, just at more FPS. To get anything significant out of DX10 would require reoptimizing the models and redoing the animations (well not redoing animations, but doing them correctly for a first time). Sigil won't find the funding for that from anyone unless retention rates magically increase without the game improving.
Right you are, desnow. Simply going DX10 won't resolve the many problems. Good graphics isn't about high polygon count only. It's about bump mapping, shaders, lighting, great textures and so on. Some areas in VG look like a CAD model, honestly.

Yah, when the boats work. Considering the state of the game at the moment, I'd say the teleporters are a permanent fixture for the forseeable future.
Too little, too late. I wont be going back and I will never purchase another SOE game as long as I live.
I appreciate your distaste in the game as I am not the biggest fan of Vanguard either.
