Can't bring myself to log in...

I don't know what happened. I bought a new PC, new vid card, new power supply, more RAM and I just can't log into Vanguard anymore.

I've been playing CoH way more in the past few days. CoH is way more fun than Vanguard.

Maybe it's the guild I joined. They all sit around and craft, craft, craft, and then craft somemore. They take the game way too seriously and don't really joke around much at all. If they do joke around it's the kind of lame ass gamer jokes that only people who do nothing but play online games think are funny.

Not only that, but I'm on the most populated server and it's hard as crap to find a group.

I was playing a Ranger, but at lvl 15 I realized that there's really no challenge to playing the Ranger class. They have everything... stealth, crowd control, high damage - ranged and melee, pets, healing.

I've tried to get into the other classes, but the only other classes I like are Monks, Dread Knights, and Rogues.

Rogues are just horriblely unfun to play. As much time as you spend to get good armor and weapons it's kinda stupid that 80-90% of your gameplay you'll only be seeing a stupid outline of your character.

Monks don't have hardly any utility and the only fighting style that interests me is Dragon style, but guess which style just about every other Monk chooses... Dragon.

Dread Knights are fun and I could see myself playing one for awhile, but you seriously have to have a static party of people that you can group with and stay together. If not, progress is just too slow and boring.

There's nothing hardcore about this game. Each of the three spheres is repetitve and grindy, which dopesn't equall challenging or hardcore.

Don't get me wrong combat is fun, but I've been having a ton more fun playing CoH.

I get the sense from what people say about the game is that the developers were so focused on making the game "hardcore" they didn't put any thought into the game actually being enjoyable to play.

You can bash on WoW all you want but it is *fun* to play.

Heh, you must be joking..coh bites...

Wow was fun for about 10 minutes..until the cartoony characters made me hurl...the game play was weak.

Vanguard is a good, solid, old fashioned work hard for your results kinda game. Fun is earning your advancement.

Strangely enough..the same thing happened to me.... over the weekend I realized I just wasn't having fun anymore...

My choices were to re-roll a different class, grind a whole bunch more, (my guild too loves crafting far more than grouping/pvp/adventuring) or pull the plug on it all before the renewal deadline came up on Friday.

Deciding that VG just wasn't for me I took the last option yesterday.  Good luck to everyone else....VG offers much to the right sort of player....

I'm just not the right sort......

Well, as a wise-friend of mine said if you get to the point, where it's not fun, don't force yourself to play.  I've had this experience with other MMORPGs that just didn't do it for me.  I forced myself to play EQ2 long after it stopped being fun because I had such high expectations for the game.

I'm in the other boat with Vanguard.... I can't log out.  Me and my guildies are burning vacation days at work at a frightening pace.

I was like OP for 2 days straight... didnt feel like loggin into VG at all, so I played Planetside instead. However, the next 2 days after that I couldnt wait to get into VG! Strange, isnt it? The difference is - groups and friends. You practicaly MUST get a group of friends and play together, unless your realy charming and able to grab a PUG with no problems. Groups are hard to come by but they are so much fun! Solo  just doesnt cut it in VG, you CAN solo, but its boring. Grouping is so much more fun. Dont give up, try and get a group or if you are on Florendyl  give me a tell.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

I think it is just a matter of preference, I thought about playing CoH again, bu tthats mostly because the game itself was easy.  And didnt feel as repetitive and grindy because it was that easy(I got my MM to 50 before I left)  . Unless you're an MM or a Stone or NRG Brute. . .progress is too slow and boring for that game too unless you're ina  group. . .although the solo play does seem to be faster than VG in general. . .

And I do agree that the spheres are repetitive and grindy, this seems to be the way things are with all MMO that does not have rewards that come very fast. . .the missions in general are weak. . .and there is no main storyline that I am following in VG. . .I am merely a whipping boy for the world. . .I go around doing things to get items and loot., to do more things to get items or loot . .I am not liberating my people or helping them discover something. . .while doing tasks along the way. . .

I expected better from this genre of game. . .they should have taken the good things from solo play high fantasy RPGs and mixed them with MMO. . .

If I didnt get such good dopamine production from playing the game I would just quit.

    Hey Kryogenic!

Why not try mixing it up a bit? :) Start a character on one of the PVP servers, or the RP server.  Sometimes roleplay can be an absolute blast, and while the PVP community can be tough to handle, having intelligence (or semi-intelligent!) enemies really makes you pay attention.

Remember, also, that you're progressing through a story with the game.  The lower level quests - kill rats, bring someone a sheep, etc are trivial because, well, that's the best you can do.  I agree that this drives people off in the early game, but I also see why you wouldn't want someone getting an epic quest to save the village at level 12.

If your guild isn't for you then go and find another one.  They sound like a crafitng guild to me.  My prereq for guild are 1) dont take themsleves seriously and 2) drink while playing.

Wow judging a game by graphics. if you don't want cartoons then let me introduce you to real life

Vanguard is a good, solid, old fashioned work hard for your results kinda game. Fun is earning your advancement.
Fun is earning your cash and gear....

Fun is being able to make that sweet item all by yourself with your blood and sweat.
If by fun you mean getting an item despite all the glitches, bugs, hum drum combat and eh graphics then yes it is
Fun is achieving thru effort not getting cartooniy things handed to ya like in wow
yeah cuz I had a crappy  hand of rag handed to me back when it was great. all the components dropped in one pug run of MC and Rag... have you grinded rep as boring as it was?? . Im not even gonna mention other examples
I must have missed when wow handed freebies out, unless your talking about the pvp changes that let you get warlord gear... because if you are LAWL.  BC greens are better than that junk.
WoW and Vg are not even on the same playing field.  WoW is a polished game and proven game while VG is a game that may or may not make it.    I don't see how you can even say these things.  If you don't like WoW that is f ine, but comparing VG to WoW that is just dumb.  I have seen what WoW has to offer and I do not really like it.  It is a NON stop grind( I really don't know why you  don't like people like you like grinds that make your eyes bleed) I have been looking for an alternative and well VG just is not it.
This game does not even have the basics down. there is stil xp tweaking, mobs glitching, quest broken, memory leaks, and game crashes.  Not to mention the class tweak balancing..... not to mention "end Game" material.  This game has alot of classes and races. I cannot imagine creating lore and zones/cities for all of them.. some noobie zones for some races look like they were thrown together wiht little thought.
class balance is something that will become apparent... i dunno how they will get to that considering all that they have on their plate right now.
i don't think many people really see the big picture this game is not done and when it is done it may or may not be good.
I don't hate the game im just realistic.  If you want a project mmorpg then this is for you.
    Vanguard ftw!
    sure buddy

That' a good idea. I was playing on Florendyl, but ther really hasn't been much RPing going on.

I might try the PvP server after I've taken a break from Vanguard for a few days.

    Thanks for the advice.

All MMO's are boring if your trying to reach lvl cap, weather it be crafting, adventuring or diplomocy...   I think once everyone gets done with the grind it will be more fun, right now everyone is concentrating on reaching cap and socializing is on hold for the moment..

I think one reason people think WoW and COH is more fun is because you can reach lvl cap a lot faster then Vanguard, plus COH is a comic based MMO, I think Sigil might of made a mistake going the Fantasy route as people are becoming tired of playing the same charaters over and over again... How many different ways can you play a Orc or Paladin...

It sounds like you are soloing if you got to 15, then tried other classes. As someone else posted, the fun in in grps...yes you can soloin Vg but it is slow and boring and repetitive. Get in a group and go into a dungeon and have some real fun.

The dungeons at low level are not even that great, but there are some really cool ones as you level up some. When you are out exploring one of the many dungeouns, it isn't a grind...it is fun and youget good xp while doing it.

I cancelled my subscription last week and uninstalled it yesterday.

No Storyline---->what is Thestra? or Qalia? What is the history/lore/makeup of these places? The people that live there? And Kojan?

The nooby areas were well-done but outside of that...unless you have hours of time...travel will murder you. Level up? yay!! You get to go back to the city to train and take 30 minutes to ride back to wherever you started...

    { Mod Edit }

The days of "working hard" in a VIDEO GAME are gone. Thank god. People have choices now and their voices are being heard (hence the amazing success of WoW).

Punishment  sure why not as long as u enjoy the pain  it  took me a while to find a toon i liked but i did and now the game has become way more fun. I dont look for a large group any more but have found with 1 or 2 more playersto quest with  is all i need to group and have fun and i wont join a hard core guild . I would love to find a guild that was layed back and down for anything. once and awhile yes just craft and chat  but not for a whole gameing sesion . any ways i really do like this game and once i found a story line and a toon i liked  i cant wait to play .

No, this game is not for everyone...it's for hardly anyone, tbh. Unless you're on disability, a pension or unemployed or living in Mom's basement....Wonder if Brad still lives in his Mom's base...oh, nvm!

Lol. keep on saying that and before you know it ALL the bandwidth will be for you.  Many of you Vanguard fans are your own worst enemy with this kind of attitude.

That saying worked when EQ was the only thing out there.  Now people say "Ok.  I'll play this or this or this or this or this or...."

Never be afraid of choices. More choices are always good things.

You would be surprised what happens when you're stubborn.  When I try my hand at RP servers, I agree that there isn't much RP going on - but if you stubbornly pursue it, people end up joining you :) It's a painful, uphill climb, but worth it when other people start having fun with you.

What do you expect people to say? Want them to beg them to stay? Why do people feel the need to post at all if they have left...

Easy games are for people that like easy games. Hard games are for people who like hard games.

People have their opinions, and there are a lot of people who like to get things easy, and there is nothing wrong with that.

By reading about Vanguard, you should know that it is a tough game and it is not easy leveling. If you don't like this, don't buy the game. Sigil is well aware that it isn't the game for everyone.

I mean what do you want them to do...make it ieasier and easier until it becomes EQ2 or WoW....and then people can start screaming that they copied WoW or EQ2??

They are trying to give people another option.

If I wanted to, i could create an account, have some chinese farmer level me to end game and buy 100 gold for real money , how easy is that ? That is huge reason I stay away from "hardcore" game now , because it is a huge joke.

It blows my mind , it really does  on how you beleive this is the what pinnacle gaming is.

    who me ?
