caps for emphasis .. thats what i need to know ....
imho .. the MMO genre is in the total pits ... all the game i see suck ...
so i refuse to commit to any serious gaming in the MMO genre ...
ive decided to go on a hunt for a once or twice a week type casual game .. that wont leave me feeling left behind and playing catchup everytime i log on ....
hows this game in that respect?

You might miss the better equipment other people have at first but apart from that it really' doesn' t take long at all to catch up to other players, you can still be a useful party member at any level if you play right.
Have played:
UO, WOW, COH/V, EQ2
Currently playing:
Age of Conan (EU)
Peace
Have you thought that maybe you just don't like MMORPGs? It's a niche to be sure, and perhaps you'd be better off with a single player RPG ala Neverwinter NIghts or the Elder Scrolls series? In any case I don't want to assume anything about you so I'll just answer the question.
You never really have to worry about being left behind in this game. You will generally always see people around your level doing this that and the other thing. If you start at the same time as someone else and you don't play as much, sure you will be behind them level and gear wise. That goes without saying, but if you are only competing with yourself then I wouldn't worry too much about it.
As a strong pvp disliker i say. This game is great, you can compete with yourself and dont have to worry how far the other player came
my group does our DDOing thusly: We all have a main character for the party, and don't play that character outside the set group. If one or more of us don't show for the night we switch to some alts and have fun with those. That way, our adventurer team is at the same relative power and gear levels.
But thats our guild play style, we have a small and dedicated crew of DDOers amongst all the guild WoW players..
Now if you're soloing or doing pugs it'll be a different story
I've been playing for about a month now, and the way I see it, it won't stand up so well to 24/7 power gaming for months on end.
It is, however, a lot of fun for casual gaming. True, there is no travelling, but NWN2 doesn't have travelling either, and people seem to like that well enough.
As far as being left behind, only happen if, as others have said, you are competing with a particular person. Sometimes though, if your first run through one of the longer quests is with a group who are quite familiar with it, you can get lost and left behind in the dungeon, especially if you type instead of using the voice chat, or (once in a while) make a mistake that can result in a party wipe if the party is pushing the envelope with regards to levels and difficulty. Not the end of the world though, I've found most players are quite tolerant with newbies, as long as you let them know up front you don't know the quest well. Politeness and caring about the party instead of just yourself goes a LONG way in this game.
I've found the community to be reasonably mature, it is self-policing to a point, since with the smaller (but by no means tiny) playerbase, obnoxious people end up doing quests by themselves, and it's very difficult (likely impossible) to solo a lot of the higher-level content.
Also, the trail version is quite nice, with no restrictions. After the 10-day free trial, you will have experienced all the basic mechanics of the game, and can make an informed decision about subscribing or not.
i think im going to join ....
i mean the real issue with me was between this ... city of villains ... or a free mmorpg .. i tired a couple of free mmorpg's and they arent up to my standards ... the best out of the free ones was proly dungeon runner .. but still waaaaaay to shallow ....
city of villains was great but ... im reluctant to continue playing knowing there is a MARVEL MMO coming out .. weird i know but id be playing with the feeling that i should quit to play in a " real" comic universe heh ...
so .. ive decided on this .. the ability to play casually is right up my alley ... im sure the graphcis and music will be inspirational ... i have read a few D&D books in my day ( still keep them for artistic inspiration ) and the fact it is D&D should keep a fairly healthy player base around for a while .... hopefully i meet some people in game who have a similar playing pattern whom i can befriend and level up with
thanks for the advice ...
I play casual and alot like one of the previous posters with regards to a main and alts. I have trouble at low levels if I LFG but if I create a group it takes less than 10 minutes for people to join up.
Fun game, best combat in an MMO for sure right now with little to no hassle factor.
