Having 3.5 million players in US/Eu is far from having troble, the second game with more players in US/Eu is EQ with 200k subs.

Hardly any other game will have 1M+ subs in US/Eu

WORLD OF WARCRAFT® SURPASSES 8 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS WORLDWIDE

Player population in North America now exceeds 2 million, while Europe and China pass the 1.5 million player and 3.5 million player marks, respectively

PARIS, France. – 11 January, 2007 -- Blizzard Entertainment®, Inc. announced today that World of Warcraft®, its subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), is now played by more than 8 million gamers around the world. World of Warcraft has also achieved new regional subscriber milestones, with more than 2 million players in North America, more than 1.5 million players in Europe, and more than 3.5 million players in China.

"We’re ecstatic that the World of Warcraft community has continued to grow steadily since we launched the game," said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment®. "This milestone wouldn’t have been possible for us to achieve without the incredible support of our players. With the release of our expansion pack, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade™, coming next week, we’re looking forward to welcoming more players to Azeroth and offering even more quality content for our community to enjoy."

Since debuting in North America on November 23, 2004, World of Warcraft has become the most popular MMORPG around the world. Today, World of Warcraft is available in seven different languages and is played in North America, Europe, mainland China, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.

World of Warcraft will soon see the launch of its first expansion, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, which will be available in North America and Europe on January 16, 2007. The expansion will be available in Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Thailand the same week, with availability in mainland China and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau to be announced at a later date. The Burning Crusade will add a tremendous amount of new content to the game, including an entire new continent to explore; an increase in the level cap up to 70, complete with new talents and abilities; flying mounts; new quests, creatures, and items; new dungeons; two new playable races; a new profession; and more.

I'm not certain I understand the purpose of your post.

Are you trying to support WoW or persuad WoW players to switch to "Scions of Fate"?

WOW is not having any trouble, theres no sign of any game in the next 2/3 years to overtake it with subsciber numbers and no sign of subscriptions declining.........

Tbh the next WOW will be the enxt Blizzard game, which is a much loved company with sooo many fans around the world. Infact they are probally one of the only companies that can say that. I know Warcraft and starcraft are massively popular in Asian countries aswel as Western.

If LOTR  however gets enough advertisement then that could challenege WOW because LOTR is a even more popular franchise.

Nothing will beat WoW in sub numbers. But I think WAR will be the next big thing that will receive the largest amount of support in forums and anywhere you go to discuss WoW. We gotta agree WAR is a worthy opponent.

Heh WOW is not in decline at all, the last NA PC games chart I saw a few weeks ago still had WOW and BC at the #1 and #2 spot, and I just checked amazon.com's sales chart, BC is #4, WOW is #9... the US population is still growing, maybe not as fast as it was, but still growing nonetheless.

Even though I think WAR will be a much better game, I don't think it will come close to WOW's subcription numbers, at this point it's the undisputed king in that regard.... probably will be for a very long time.

  • IMO WoW will be the #1 mmo for quite a few more years.  The games that are in development right now ( AoC, DF, WAR, and LOTRO ) will definately dent WoW subscribers, but still wont dent the mark it's made in the industry.  At most I think that combined, WoW will lose 500-750k subsribers from these games combined.  Why such a low number? Well for one these games will require quite a computer ( Not a super comp, but alot of people will have to upgrade to run these games decently ), and alot of WoW's subscribers are new to the genre, so most likely those new to the genre will not make a switch any time soon right now.

You can't just play one mmorpg all the time, it gets boring unless you are addicted to it. LotRO is already superior to WoW almost in all aspects: quests, size, graphics, bug free etc,  yet to see end-game. You are saying WoW going to be #1 for quite a while, you are wrong sir. Wait until AoC and WAR comes out WoW going to be good old days. Blizzard better start making Galaxy of Starcraft or something.
