I have just upgraded my PC so I'm really looking to get into a good MMO with fun PvP elements (don't get me wrong, I am also looking for robust PvE as well). My problem is that I am having some difficulties finding an MMO that has the kind of immersive PvP play that I will find engaging and fun. I am hoping that all of you could provide me with some advice on any good MMOs out there that have great PvP that will fit my definition of fun PvP.
As background, I have played DAoC, EVE (15 day trial), COH/COV, GW (in middle of prophecies now), & SWG (pre-change). Out of these games, I would have to say that I enjoyed DAoC PvP the best. Even though it is the oldest game here, I liked the fact that I was battling for possesion of forts, etc. which our group could then control and spawn from (it gave a feeling of accomplishment). In addition, and probably more importantly, I enjoyed the setting of the PvP. I enjoyed how DAoC PvP areas were sprawling forest spaces where as an assassin (my fav. profession) my group could hide in the woods and ambush unwitting groups, or plan an all out assault on their fort. I contrast this with a game like GW where you are just instanced into an open arena that really has no feeling of realism, leaving you to just run around and kill as many as possible before time runs out or until you capture all of the flags. Maybe this seems like a small distinction to most, but I want to feel like I'm really in a true setting for my toon where I have to plot and prepare before I go in for the kill rather than just see who can rattle off the best combo of keyboard mashing.
Lastly, I am also looking for PvP where I don't need to invest 3 yrs. to get even remotely competent (which is the reason why I didn't take to EVE).
If this made sense to anyone and you'd like to offer your feedback, I would appreciate it. If not, I appreciate you reading through my post anyways.
Thx.

Hopefully at least one won't suck on release.
Looking further ahead, Fury, Huxley, Darkfall and Tabula Rasa all appeal to sections of the PvP crowd.
