For someone not in the "know"  won't this confuse alot of people about the other warhammer game coming out? is like a future version of the Fantasy version??

Yes Warhammer 40,000 is a sci-fi themed game. Actually if memory serves me right it actually takes place in or around the year 40,000.

It is VERY VERY different from the Warhammer fantasy series, in my opinion.

Personally I like Warhammer 40k more.

this is good news. I dont understand why they didnt go straight to 40k originally, it is much more interesting than the cliched hack of fantasy that warhammer is.

I hope the game is more of a MMOFPS now that I think about it, perhaps a third person shooter rather.

Not sure the MMORPG part will satisfy most people.

Since it was just announced and they're probably JUST getting it started, let's hope they take the time to make an awesome game.  They've got a lot of games to look at as far as what works and what doesn't so could be pretty exciting.

That's what sucks about these kind of announcements though - it's gonna be AWHILE before it comes out ya know - too much time to start thinking about it.  Like the Star Trek Online game. I wonder how close that is to release.

KF: Yes, we have the game in development at our Austin-based studio, Vigil Games. The team there is led by David Adams, formerly of NCsoft, and is comprised of several MMO veterans from that community. We look forward to making further announcements with more specifics on the game in the coming months.

KF: We think World of Warcraft has done a great job of establishing the MMO market. We have seen tremendous growth in the space over the past five or so years. That said, we believe there is plenty of opportunity that lies ahead both in terms of developing innovative new gameplay mechanics and continuing to expand the user base. Combine that with the built-in popularity and richness of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, and we feel very confident in our competitive position.

    Don't get your hopes up.

NCSoft has released plenty of great games, CoX is critically acclaimed. They also have the creator of UO working on a new game Tabula Rasa. If you seriously consider that to be bad then perhaps you shouldn't be playing MMO's at all. THQ has made GREAT RTS games out of the series, they'll bring justice to the series in an MMO.

Does anybody else need to tell this guy that without WoW we wouldnt have the selection of games that we currently have now? Seriously WoW opened up this once-niche video game market up so much that its questionable it would even exist in the mainstream today were it not for WoW. Now as we have it, playing an MMO is garnering nation-wide attention from all walks of life, not just greasy little nerds stuck in their parents basement. You can hate WoW all you want, but THQ and GamesWorkshop knows that the only reason why they are evening making MMOs today is cause they now know that there is a market for them, thanks to WoW.

    Don't get your hopes up.

You are writing this game off so fast that its disturbing, but then again thats one less elitist we have to deal with in-game. Shouldn't you be in Vanguard right now?

NCsoft did not develop City of heroes, just like SoE didn't develop Vanguard. NCNA dev team is only responsible for parts of Lineage 1 and Tabula Rasa. By the use of the word "veteran" I think he's referring to the old Lineage 1 devs (Who came from UO along with Lord British and his brother). NC Korea developed Lineage, Dungeon runners, Aion.

I made the mistake of associating the dev team with the actual management. So, some guys from Origin might not be that bad if they're making a startup company. Take one look at Lineage 2, and that 400 person layoff NCNA did a while back If you want to see bad management.

The second thing he says about WoW is what's worrying.  Warhammer is a strategy game. This, just like Warhammer looks to be using WoW as a game model and Warhammer only as setting.

If they're going for large scale pvp, they will have to balance classes towards groups and regiments. If they are trying to follow WoW's casual friendly success they will balance classes towards indviduals. They're not making a MMO-turn based strategy, so thats no option. Knowing the UO developers they'll take WoW's path to success. In the end it only works against the Games Workshop fanbase by alienating them from the strategic genre. So what is the point of using the Warhammer franchise if they aren't bringing in the true fanbase? If the game is WoW style pvp, and not massive warfare, all true fans will be disappointed.

As giddy as I get thinking about Orks with guns, mixing strategy gamers with the WoW generation is a recipe for disaster.
