SWG Project Team Lead Letter:

Hi Everyone.

We know you have been waiting and wondering about our plans for Star Wars Galaxies in 2007, and we are excited to be able to share some initial details with you today.  First off, we’d like to thank all of you for your enthusiasm for the game and your excitement about all the new features we’ve been able to implement recently.  We also appreciate the constructive feedback you’ve given us over the past year, and we encourage you to continue to share your thoughts and feelings about the features we’ll be adding in 2007.

LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment have been working closely over the past few months to analyze what went right, and wrong, in 2006 and where we wanted to take the game in 2007. Like last year, we will continue to release content and features via our Chapter Adventures every eight weeks or so.  As always, they will be delivered to you as part of your subscription to the game.  These Chapters have allowed us to introduce new content on a consistent basis, while still giving us the flexibility to implement some of the feedback you gave us in the community summits and on the forums.  Speaking of the community summits, we’re pleased to say that we’ll be starting them up again this year, albeit in a slightly different form that will accommodate more participants.  In addition, we will continue to be active on the forums, responding to your questions and providing important information about the game.

Today we are publishing our plans for Chapter 6, which centers on the new Beast Master expertise tree that will be available to all players.  We are excited about this feature, as it addresses a major community request while also delivering a more balanced gameplay experience and opening up the very fun and rewarding activity of crafting and raising pets to all professions.  We invite you to read the Chapter 6 outline and give us your feedback and comments as we finalize the specifications.

In the weeks ahead we will be publishing more information about the plans we have for upcoming Chapters and our other initiatives.  We have strived to focus our long term planning on a few key systems and content additions which will form the core of our upcoming Chapters, while leaving plenty of room for the community to help drive what comes next.  We know that some of the things we already have planned will be very exciting for our players, but at the same time we want to be nimble in reacting to community input as it comes in.  Every new Chapter we released in 2006 has inspired even more creative ideas from our players and we have no doubt that this will continue in 2007 and beyond.

We also would like to take this opportunity to mention some recent changes in our development team.  As you know, SWG has been live for almost four years now, with many of our team members working on the game since the start of development more than seven years ago.  Two developers that have been on the game since the beginning, Grant McDaniel, a producer at Sony Online, and Julio Torres, a producer at LucasArts, have moved on to other projects.  Because of their stellar work on SWG, both guys have been given amazing opportunities within our respective companies.  Grant has transitioned over to SOE’s massively multiplayer game based in the DC comic franchise.  Julio is now a producer on Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for LucasArts.  These transitions have been complete for several weeks now, with seasoned, enthusiastic developers taking over the positions, and we wanted to officially share that news with you today.  We view these changes as very exciting, both for Grant and Julio, and also for the SWG team, as we’re able to bring in fresh perspectives on the game’s development.

For the rest of the day, we will be stationed on the official forums to address any questions you might have.  We’ll do our best to answer specifics, but please understand that many of the details of the new content and features are still being ironed out and will be communicated in future updates.  However, we’ll be glad to discuss the motivation behind our thinking, along with our high-level goals for the year.

Sincerely,

The Star Wars Galaxies Development Team Production Leads:

Brian Lowe, Senior Producer at LucasArts

Jake Neri, Producer at LucasArts

Lorin Jameson, Producer at SOE

This is funny as Hell...

Well Grant is gone too...lol he got off that boat..

Julio... Well, Star Wars Unleased is fucked now.   No person such as him should be on that project.. all hopes are lost now for sure on that one.

I was looking forward to that until Mr Iconic was found to be on that..

SO Rouge 5 is out... he was smart..  DC project...K..lol

Now there is a new guy as the producer.. not to mention I liked the comment of "What went wrong and what went right"... that is just so funny to see in a letter like that.

No expansion.. they need money for that.. summits?  Again??? LOL THEY DID NOT LISTEN TO US THE FIRST TIME AROUND!

All in all nothing suprising and nothing good.     I do like how they spun people leaving the team... that was the best part.

You know seeing Julio get moved is unreal, but overdue they should have fired him... must be a contract no clue..

Beastmaster...

Yeah, I played that once WHEN IT WAS CALLED CREATURE HANDLER THAT THEY TOOK OUT !!!

I love letters like this.. no real plan all fluff and utter crap, other then saying that people that made SWG fail are gone...that was the only good news.

(This is just like before except better...) they can't even add a expansion and they know it lol..

man I read that 10 minutes ago and Im still laughing my ass off...

all I can say is poor swg community:

nothing new, 1 old profession this game once had "creature handler" gets reintroduced in a very lousy way as "beast mastery"

very very poor, thats all I can say...

oh and they revamp the rebel themepark *thumbsUp*, now this should be a reason for the 250.000 customers they lost due the NGE to come back ;)

you can colorize shit to pink, it looks nice, but underneath the color its still shit (NGE-Star Wars Galaxies)

I've got an idea for an expansion.

First, we'll  build up a certain classe's expectations by promising them something great.

Then we'll release the expansion and rake in the money for, oh say, ten days....

And then.......we'll delete their class! Yeah, that's the way to treat our customers!

No wait.....we tried that one already.....

That sucks I had high hopes for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, with Julio moving over there, he'll surely ruin that game like he has to the others in his past.

Not good news for Force Unleashed.  You know Julio is gonna screw something up.

At best (for NGE players, which Im not) I was expecting some sort of heavy content or expansion.

yeah, poor NGE players dont get much meat on the bone it seems.  Woohoo lets get excited about creature handleing, something that was ALREADY WORKING before... and um, toys to place for events (thats all cool but did anyone really want that?).   Thats the whole point Ive made all this time: they break the wheel and reinvent it over again.  Ouu how exciting.

Exactly real bad news for that game.

Unreal that he is involved in that... just unreal.     I would never put someone in charge of that project after what he did to SWG.

You strike me as the type of person who will whine about anything. If they had included an expansion? You would have cried your ass off about how they SHOULD be fixing the game in it's current state, and not concentrating on other things. They don't include an expansion? Whine your ass off again about how they "need" an expansion? CH is enough to bring more back. I'd rather they focus in certain issues and or ideas and release them every chapter, than have them try to pack up all the ideas, not take the time to fix the bugs in the expansion and the game because they are rushing to release, then release it and have me pay 30 bucks for something that still has bugs in it. Hmmm, pay no extra and have finer-tuned publishes? Or....pay 30 dollars and have all the content at once, but major bugs. I'll take the first one please.

You think that just because Julio Torres moved to the Force Unleased that it is going to go down the tubes now? Wow. Just wow. I know he is horrible, and he knows nothing about MMORPG's, but perhaps he might be a bit better working on a single player game. Besides, they never mentioned what position he would be at, so don't just go off assuming that he is the damn Lead Designer or anything. I doubt he could ruin anything if he was working with 50 experienced game developers (or however many they have on the team).

Well, just cause you don't like it doesn't mean others won't. I mean, people on this forum hate anything that SOE in general releases, just because they think that since it is the NGE that it just sucks. I bet you haven't even played the game since the NGE released. And you wonder why the game isn't to your liking? Because when you WERE subscribed all your posts looked like yours above. You provide NO reason for it to be crap, and you automatically assume that CH will be "very lousy" even though you, nor anyone else but the devs, have played it yet. If you miss the game so much go hop on the EMU and test for awhile. God I can't wait for that to come out so you can quit your whining about the game.

Um no it will suck because it wont be as good nore as polished as the old CH was..It may bring a few back to the game but i doubt it will bring massive amounts.Cause nothing since the CUNGE has been as good as the systems before it..Even tho CU was crap to me the NGE is the Turd..And as long as its all WoWIsh and clumsy they still arent addressing the original complaints with SWG. Bugs and content top 2..

Now 2 years later you get neither of those 2 issues resolved but get a Rehashed CH Talent tree added..Good lord that sounds so so good..It wont be the same no matter what they add back unless the Core game is fixed first.Meaning all the bugs the horrid UI, Levels,Lack of professions and skills, Benny hill combat engine, Complexity, Sandbox gameplay..Now thats fixing the game not adding a rehashed subpar talent back that wont be as good as it once was..I think pre april 05 content to the game wouldve helped more than 2 revamps no one liked but a small group..This isnt going to help since no expansion means 0 money so the game is stuck in its curent crapfest..Enjoy the beast mastery talents im sure it will be so fun again..

And since the all the old Devs are gone means success dang i want a job!!! I know what will fix the game its just not what any SOE dev wants to hear..You have to fix the Core problems before you can move forward.FOr SWG to move forward would require another total revamp not bastardizing old professions and calling it new..They just dont get it the Game engine wasnt the problem its these stupid bugs and unpolished crap they keep spoon feeding everyone..So enjoy the NGE its here to stay, man it will be lonely for a long time if it continues in the direction its headed..They say moving forward i say 2 steps back and back and back and back..And time tells all tales if the game is saved or a turd getting ready to flush..Its gonna be a funny year for SWG...

Of coarse they cant make you expansions because even if ALL of the current NGE players buy the expansion, they would lose money because the development would have cost more!  LOL

I don't think personal insults to certain developers is acceptable, none of them caused the downfall of SWG on their own. It's just the way things goes and specially with a IP game.

SWG was designed badly from the get go and the companies needed to revive it, however it didn't work and made it worse.

Tbh it was Ralphs vision and without him it wasn't going the right direction.

Can't we just slap a KIA sticker on this game and be done with it?  I miss Pre-CU as much as anyone, but every time a DEV at SOE opens their mouth, I want to kill a baby...

    Yes, that was great.

I don't even know why they bothered with that.  They could have just said: "There, here's your damn letter.  Now leave us alone already, see you in 6 months."

Actually now that I know he's working on it, makes me not going to buy it.  Same with anything Jeff Freeman touches as well as heelllleeeeaasss... Unless the name is burried deep deep I'm staying away from sony and LA and any other things these guys touch.

Are they deleting / editing the "preCU FTW!!!111!!" catcalls? Haven't seen a single one yet, which is surprising.

    This isn't working guys...

I'm just gonna go ahead and says it; Since you guys are here, maybe you can explain why you guys can't give us a seperate classic server. With a sandbox system, content wasn't too big of a deal.

This is all too little too late.
This has really been addressed a number of times...But the short answer is that we cannot support two code bases.  We provide a game and we are proud of it.  There will be no classic servers.  Question answered...Please move on folks.

What stellar work did they do ? Does anyone know what there talking about? Julio has been around Smed for to long hes just a bunch of fluff and empty promises. As for that force unleashed game the name alone makes me not want to play it whats next super jedi brothers. Whats really shocking though is someone actually hired him to f up another game. F#$ing up 1 game wasnt enough i guess geesh
