I'm pretty sure you wetted you pants when you saw a speeder for the first time in SWG. I wasnt wearing pants when I saw a speeder for the first time in SWG.
Cool that they have them but I'm going to call bullshit on the design, that looks nothing like a feasible small sailing craft.
Placeholder maybe until they can get a programmer who knows how to sail?

What about when they were not going in your datapad and you could span so many, people could ALMOST crash a server? If i'm correct, it took them a week to fix it.

That is the town of Khal, it has a circular harbour in it's centre, with access to the open sea and further south down to ahgram etc downriver. My groups had a boat for a few days, we've found some pretty amazing things exploring
To Erinys: To each their own of course but your last statement seems a bit more based on you quitting Vanguard than objective analysis.
First of all: The image you provided shows a boat hovering over water. It does in no way look like it is IN the water. Second of all, the boat has absolutely no shadow or structural mass to it. It is outside of the world so to speak and the objects on it are spaced weirdly in reference to the space it should provide.
When you get onto a boat in World of Warcraft or in Vanguard, at least it looks like you're on the boat, not placed somewhere with a boat-image background.
It is fine you don't like Vanguard but a bit of objectivity could perhaps be preferable.

When did they make buildable boats in DAoC? Last I knew they were vendor only...
Boats in VG are made by Artificers, Carpenters specifically, I believe. Though, the sails are made by outfitters, and I think there are some parts you need a blacksmith to make as well. They are, from what I've read on the different crafting forums, a massive, massive pain in the ass to make, even for the basic sloop, which is the first recipe you get. Something along the lines of 56 or so different combines. And I thought making a shitty pair of boots was a pain.
Only downside is there is currently a bug involving the naming of boats. All boats made by the same crafter use the crafters name in there somehow, so if someone "summons" a boat by that crafter, all the other boats made by him, or her, poof.
Im a 13th level Ranger in Kojan islands and Ive found a toal of 5 trees to harvest so far! lol.
Hint that may help you.

Trees are hard to spot so, this migth be useful to you.

Show me a screen of a better looking boat in a general fantasy mmo and I'll give you a cookie.
Till you develop and launch your own mmo, with playable boats, I don't think you have much room to talk about what the developers are doing.
Boat looks damn good to me, and it's only the basic , newb version too. There are many other bigger and better ones yet to come as people level enough to build them.

uhm, that looks like an exact replica of a blueprint I saw on a historical sailing website...a Pink, i think it was called...what did you have in mind?

But you do know that thats not the same game engine with which DOAC launched? No they have upgraded it a couple of times.
Anyway, sorry for hijacking this thread with my comment to doac boats, but I just had to put a point straight.
