I am just starting to get interested in the world of MMORPG. I have read a lot of reviews and think I know which one I would like to play for the first time. However I think I should ask ppl that have more experience. Which games would you recommend to a nooby of MMORPG.

I hate to give recommendations to people because I'm afraid they will take it directly and go out and buy a game because of my opinions.  You have done the right thing by going and reading reviews.  You can go a step further and find the various mmorpg's that are offering a free trial period.  This way you will get a decent feel for the game (not a very in-depth one, as most trials are not long enough to give you a sense of all the features a game may have, especially the ones that have a lot of high end content that may take a while to experience).

I'll tell you what I think would be MY choice if I were to start out again:

First of all, I would consider waiting a few months if you are patient.  There are some games on the way that are sure to be very good such as Everquest II, World of Warcraft, and Guild Wars, to name a few.  If you need a mmorpg to try out right now, I suggest you go with one that is moderately noob friendly, not too time consuming, and fun to play.  My choice would be Star Wars Galaxies.  You'll be able to experience just about all the game has to offer up until some of the other mmorpg's I mentioned come out.  SWG doesn't have the content that many others have, but the time spent playing was a lot of fun, and I still often log back on.

My second pick would be Dark Age of Camelot.  It is a good game with a lot of nice features, not too difficult, and it has many players that are very helpful to noobs.

My third pick would be Lineage II.  If you've never played a mmorpg, Lineage II may be very fun for you.  To more experienced North American gamers, it seems that the game is too bent in levelling and the grind of killing monsters.  I don't mind it myself, but I can see why some people complain.

You never know until you try, so grab those trials, or check them out at a friends house, or what ever.

I am still trying mmorpg's in search of the one that is perfect for me.  Good luck!

Thats a really hard question to answer, especially since you give little indication of how you play games/what you like or dislike in them.

I would recommend trying anything and everything you can get your hands on with a free trial, and go from there. At least that way, you'll be able to experience a good amount of features that you'll find in the genre, without wasting money on buying games, and quitting after a month.

But to answer your question, SWG might be worth a try. Its not hard to learn (once you get used to the UI) and its worth at LEAST a few months of fun at this point. Maybe more depending on how badly they screw up the upcomming updates and expansions.

City of Heros is also an EXCELLENT choice for the newbie/laid back gamer. It allows you to group with people regardless of lvl (via the sidekick system), and has some fun and fast paced combat. It has no economy, and no items to worry about, so it can be a great introduction to the genre without being completely overwhelming.

I hope you find something you really enjoy out there! Let us know what it is when you do!

I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.

If I was you (Which I am), I would start on something completley FREE!!!!! Such as, un dun derr, RuneScape, which can be found at http://www.runescape.com. Not only is it pretty easy to get into, but isnt that much worse than anything youll be paying £20 a month for.

    63 str, 63 atk, 63 def, 63 hits, Combat 77, 940 skill total.

    -insert sig-

I suggest you to wait for World of Warcraft to try mmorpg for the first time.

You don`t wroted what you expect from game, what you like, what you hate; without it nobody could help you. Game that is great fun to one person could be a nightmare to another...

I would suggest City of Heroes. Great for the casual gamer, and is the mmorpg i play at the moment.

Don't play Lineage II, it's a complete level grind and is only for hardcore people who get a kick out of slashing things for 5 hours.

And for the love of god, don't play Runescape. It may be free, but for good reason.

most popular wise the top5 games i would say worth the money are:

    Everquest

    Dark age of camelot

    Ultima online

    Anarchy online

    FFxi

but mmorpgs are getting crowede there is a HUGE selection out there. ac,ac2,eve,horizons,lineage2,city of heros. blah blah

but overall those are probably the top 5 games.  swg is not a good starter game i rate it one of the worste games out there i just reactivated my account 2 days ago and im not even playing it now... i  only lasted 2 weeks at release.. that is 1 game i will stay clear of from now on.. i dont know what it is but the game sucks.

Hmm I would not rely too much on what folks say here even me hehe.Fact is we all have different taste when it comes to mmorpg.

Someone posted that FFXI would be in his top 5.In my view its one of the worst games to come out in the last 2 years. But hey that just shows you everyone got their own taste.

What I would say is DO NOT sit waiting for EQ2 or WoW or whatever.Thats the mentality of those that actually have played for years and just getting bored. If you never played a mmorpg there is so much to choose from out there. If you decide to sit and wait for 6 months you would lose intrest (i know i would) espically since you never played a mmorpg before.

AVOID those that are totally free. They tend to be a sub par version of the mmorpg and would give you ideas that how mmorpg should be like.Like the old saying goes "you get what you pay for".

DO try the free trials of the properly made ones.Loads are doing free trials now AC 1/2,horizons,DAoC,AO,shadowbane and many more.Check the game list and just click on all the games and see which ones are having trials.

Hmmm, even though we're a crazy group of hard-core MMORPG players ::::29:: , it would be really hard to suggest any game in particular... because if you're like most of us avid gamers (& I think you are ::::39:: ), then you already know that each of us has our own personal playing style, likes & dislikes, etc.

So I recommend that you point your mouse over to the Game List section of this site. Find as many FREE Beta-Test games as possible. Then play, play, play. ::::01::
Don't even bother with the games that require you to purchase their software, until after you've decided what styles of games you prefer.

Also, read the reviews, written by the MMORPG staff, in the News section. They're well-written, & will give you a better idea of what to expect from the games you're thinking about trying.

    And Happy Gaming!::::28::

If you don`t know what games to chose try it all, most of them have free trials, from week to 2 weeks, in this time you could saw what this game is, and even if you like this game don`t stop, its very possible that you found much better game...

Ps. Dont depend to much on game graphic as many times graphic is good but gameplay is horrible...
Ps2. Avoid all free mmorpgs, they are crap, i tried few before i checked pay for play mmorpgs and this first encounter with free mmorpgs almost destroyed my whole interest with mmo games...
Ps3. I write in foreign language without dictionary so dont be to harsh about my spelling;P

This is alot like arguing over what is art or what isn't. It soley depends on the individuals invovled. Being a newb to mmorpgs in general I'd download a few free trials and see if mmorpgs are even something that I would enjoy. Plus them being free you get to see how they differ yet remain the same.

This brings up something this website is lacking. It needs a place that shows without much searching what mmorps offer free trials.

There are free mmorpgs out there, but from my experience they are free for a reason, and not any good ones.
