Question about mage template

ZenthiasZenthias Member Posts: 36

I just resubbed yesterday.(already loving it)

I'm not exactly sure where to go with my template. So far I'm focusing on Resist, Magery, Meditation, and Eval.  I have a couple questions. First of all, I'm not interested in any of that ninja stuff.

My first question is, is it a good idea to have wrestling AND a weapons skill? I know having wrestling will help with casting and being interupted and what not.

My next question is, if I were to pick up swords/fencing/mace I would want to have tactics as well, right? From what I understand, the better the tactics the more damage I will do with my sword.

When I used to play I had the following template.

100 magery

100 med

100 eval

100 resist

100 swords

100 tacts

100 wrestling

Let me know what you guys/gals think.

thanks

The answer to your first question is no wrestling and swords would be a waste of points as they are both offensive skills, The Wrestling skill is automatically used when you engage in combat holding no weapon. It is used to calculate your chance to hit and chance to be hit. Swords  would only allow you to do damage while holding a weapon also.IMHO you should go with  the template you have in mind (assuming you want to be a melee mage) but increase resist, magery, eval, as hig as you can with power scrolls, and instead of tact and swords take focus (for super fast mana regeneration) or Parry for extra defense from melee attacks, and put the extra points that you will have left into either spirit speak (for extra healing that works even while poisoned) or spell weaving for some extra spells and summons. My mage template is as follows:  no offensive skill  or defensive skill as i play as support (damage/crowd control) and back line fire support for offense in group hunts.

    120 magery

    120 meditation

    120 focus

    115 eval

    115 resist spells

    115 spirit speak

theres lotsa directions you can take your character. the way your attempting to take him however, will definitely not work all that great. You either need to make a pvm based char or a pvp one. If you plan to primarily fight with and rely on groups than you dont need parry. And if you are going for the pvp aspect, just put on fencing/wrestling and parry.  No real point in putting ss on  mage though.  And you probabally wont need tactics, considering  only a few mages fight close up. And they ussually do it as dexxers that used an empty slot for magery in order to curse etc., or mages with all 120s and about 80 mil put into them. for you atleast right now I would reccomend something like- 100 med 100 mag 100 eval 100 resist, parry  and maybe necro, etc for the rest

If I plan never to PVP do I need to use these power scrolls?

Back in the day I had no problem beating the crap out of drakes/dragons/liches just being 100mage/eval.

    thanks

If your not gonna pvp  yeah you should be fine without the power scrolls, although you may want to pick up a +10 magery down the road to help keep ya from the fizzles :)  your outline  looks good for a battlemage template , it should serve you well in pvm :)
