The only way to play online is purchasing a Guardians License, which costs $10 per month.

Ive really fallen out with this game as EU is 1 month behind. XBOX members play alone (in terms of console) and EU players play with japanese players instead of US.

You have to pay $10 or someting which is reasonable except you have to ring microsoft to cancel it and struggle with some retention agent which is so off putting.

Don't pay for play you are going lose more money because:
1.You pay for your telephone bill
2.You pay for your credit card
    3.You buy the game
    4.You buy the Guardian Licence
    That is all.

No, you can play this game offline for free. But don't bother if your only going to play the singleplayer version. The singleplayer version is so incredibly boring and poorly done, that its really a waste of money if your not going online.

There is a "story mode", which is essentially a single player campaign. You can play the story mode without a subscription. It's not quite as fleshed-out as typical modern Japanese RPG, but I think it's well done considering that they used the same toolset as they used for the multiplayer and still managed to end up with a decent single player feel.

Ironically, you can't play offline. For some awesome reason, NProtect launches even with the story mode. If NProtect can't connect with its servers, the game just launches as a black screen and shuts down two seconds later.

Oh, you really think that.  I loved the Single Player mode.  I felt sad when I completed it. =(  And In fact I am hoping 'Online' will be just as good.

this is not free to play, then why it doesn't have a money sign beside the game name like other pay to play games

It's probably because there is a game in there you can play without paying.

Then ask yourself this question, did you enjoy the singleplayer because of its gameplay, or because of the intresting storyline? I enjoyed the storyline, but going through the dungeons with those poorly AI programmed NPC's was a chore.
