(sorry no native english)
After all the horrible releases in the last years i am not willing to buy any mmorpg without beeing able to test it for at least 3 days to make sure i am not just a paying Beta tester.
also after reading the postings here and on other boards i am deeply sceptic about this game.
If a company thinks their Game is ready for release then why arent they offering a TRIAL ?? for me that is always very suspecptive. I would gladly pay 50$ if i tested the product before. 3 Days would be enough.
I see many people here Quitting already after 2nd month. That is a bad sign for a fresh released game. Possible new customers like me feel like a Fox ready to step into a Trap.
50$+14.95$ goodbye, dissapointed and frustration. Thats in my opinion a mess and the company that releases games that are still in Beta should be judged by their goverment lawcourts for cheating their customers.
So SIGIL/SOE either you offer a Trial or i wont ever buy and play this game because my hard earned money is worth far more than frustration and dissapointment.

You vanbois make VG look even worse since you cannot defend the game. You simply do not have anything good to say about it? No wonder people are sceptic.
Is that true? That you have to pay for a month (14.95$ ?) after the free-month (Which ain't really free if so.)
I am 100% neutral with respect to vanguard.
I haven't tried the game yet and i have read so many things saying this and that, im not going to believe any of it because opinions are so mixed.
The only way i can know what its like for sure is to try it for myself. And i would....if they had a trial.
Its a shame, i really do want to try it but im not going to risk £30 of my money on something i could stop playing after a day
also u have to realise that 99% of posts on this site seem to b negative towards VG which seems to b biased. most have only played the beta and thats it. all the Vanguard players who r enjoying it r on dedicated vanguard forums. i just have some spare time at work. i never judge a movie by its review, an album nor a game. u r correct the only real way is to test it for yourself. there should b a trial and there eventually maybe, i dont know but reading flamers will not get u anywhere.
by the way mate i bought the collectors and may have a 10 day buddy key left so post your email and u can try it for yourself. no 1 else please i only have the 1 left sorry.
I have heard lots of things, both good and bad, about Vanguard, and I'd like to try it out myself.
However: No free trial = me not gambling my money on something I may hate as soon as I install it.
If you want to try a game before you buy it, however, you are limited to those games that offer the free trial. I am sure Vanguard will do so at some point. Nonetheless, you may have to accept the fact that right now there is no free trial (save for buddy keys, but I am not 100% sure how those work; I've never used one). That being the case, you may need to find another game you enjoy and try Vanguard when the free trial becomes available.

I would "guess" within the next month or so you will see a free trial. SOE seems to let them go at about month 3 or 4. That is assuming they get some of the holes plugged up in the game.
I really don't get where these people who say there are no serious bugs are coming from..
When you can die by simply zoning, oh sorry "chunking".. you have a serious bug.
When people are just randomly losing levels.. you have a serious bug.
When you just randomly crash to desktop, often along with your entire group, you have a serious bug.
When you gear can just vanish.. you have a serious bug.
And there is very little worthwhile content at the moment. Yes, there is a big world filled with many many monesters.. none of which you'll remember 2 minutes after fighting them.
There's a reason they're not giving away free trials at the moment, the "casual" MMO player will accept these things far less than the people who have been following the game, and first impressions are the strongest. Go find something else to play for 2 or 3 months, and check back.
Just wait i say. It's also gonna be more polish when the trial is released.

Damn those tards and their false reports! they are just trying to bring down the game they are paying for cause they are SOE haters!
Your theory is fascinating and i now see the light and these bitter people trying to destroy a wonderfull product.
I've never randomly lost a level.
I've never randomly crashed to desktop.
My gear has not vanished.
Actually, the Spawn of Kojaku that has chased me down a number of times just outside of Tanvu is quite memorable. Raiding the Ra'Jin stronghold with my group made up of healers and DPSers (no tank, no mage) I remember quite well. Bounding across the rooftops in low-gravity was great (if a bit frustrating until we got the hang of it). Hunting down the massive beasts that hang out with the trolls was great fun too (though I don't remember their name off-hand, the creatures themselves have a very clear picture in my mind).
Admittedly I haven't played more than about 15 hours all total so far, but every bit I've played is quite memorable and lots of fun.
I blue-screened out once. No error message. I think my computer overheated, as this was before I installed an extra exhaust fan, because Vanguard puts my computer under a LOT of load.
I understand that it's not for everyone. Useless hate is not helping anyone.
EDIT: Oh yeah. I played off a 10-day buddy key. That seems like a free trial to me. Yes, it'd be nice if they'd open up an internet-based free trial, but they haven't gotten there yet. Most games don't have one right off the bat. I had to buy World of Warcraft to try it, and I played for 8 months.

I would bet they have a free trial before the end of teh month. For those having problems here are a couple of links you might find useful.

I miss DAoC
i have been playing a few hours everyday for a few weeks and i have never died due to lag, never lost xp or items etc and never crashed.
so we r not saying they dont happen but u must understand the people that these happen to r on here complaining about it. there heaps there do not experience any of these dont usually come on here to say that theres no bugs.
you only here about the plane that crashes not about the 10 000 000 that dont.
about 12 of my mates all have the game and yes NONE of them have experienced any of these bugs either.

It's wonderful that you are so compassionate and understanding.
Just realize that for each person who does experience that problem, it puts another nail in the coffin for
a person who will not subscribe to the game. The game is already a niche game and the hurdles are
pretty high to get someone to even try the game.
But hey, you are having fun what does it matter that 500 or even 900 of the next thousand people who try
the game find problems they consider gamebreaking. No skin off your nose.
Yes, by all means tell prospective customers to go away and check back in three months. That is
certainly the kind of recommendation and attitude that would make me want to give it a second try.
As for the other thing; I think game developers are very aware that people are using beta as a play before pay. I noticed some posts by beta testers (before and after NDA) that said that many of the bugs they reported were never resolved and the testing they did felt almost pointless. I also think game developers use beta as a means to advertise their game (word of mouth).
Just my 2 cents.
I didn't care for the game game much in beta, but I like it a lot more now.

After a kind and rational reply you call the guy a vanboi?? Why should anyone defend Vanguard from someone who wants a trial for a game that has been released for a month? Free trials usually come out at least a year after release. Try some positivity with your next meal.
Calling someone a Vanboi makes you a namecalling little kid.
To the O.P., yeah free trials might be in a year or so. Till then try and get a buddy key if you can't afford the game.
What makes you think this game is so disappointing. If you go into it thinking that right off the bat you probably are going to quit right away.
If you think is mmo should be 100% playable your mistaken.
