Anything Turbine do to make the game more easy is bad imo, its easy enough now, it should be a hard challenging game, not frustrating game though, but getting lost in a forest isnt frustrating because you have RECALL, so I think if newbs want a easy game to play you better go play WoW or makey your own game with a level up button, mmorpgs should be getting more complex with the evolution and not more easy, in 10 years we all going to play games with no need to level up we all gonna start maxed lvl, with all the good loot, and it will be impossible to kill anyone in pvp because everyone will have same power so they will have to die at the same time or not die at all to be perfectly balanced, geez
The old forest is about 20 times nice looking as well with the added tweaking , telling people it is"easier" doesn't explain anything , what exactly is wrong with the old forest ?
What happened to the days when substance was more important than eye candy? How many games have come out in the last few years that you said "wow! This was an amazing game. I got right into the story, it was believable, and looked great!" Since I bought Morrowind I haven't been able to say that.
And as sad as it is, RPGs and ORPGs have gone the same route.... Let's not worry about how accurate or true it is to the world of the game, let's make it as sweet looking as possible and most people will love it. And the sad thing is, it works. As was mentioned, where was the forest set up with torches and paths like that in the LoTR universe? I don't recall that in the books or the movies. And if it was (as was previously mentioned as well) why did they not take that route? If you want to make a game with no rules, make them up as you go, or change what's already been established, don't base it on a very well-established world (like LoTR or Star Wars). If you do, you don't get to take the same liberties as someone making up their own world.
If they wanted to change something in the Old forest that would be to make it harder and more scary and not easier and enjoyable, this is the perfect example of a bad design decision made by someone that doesn't know what games are about, never played in the old forest or is an indicator of the game direction, instead of the game becoming more challenging is actually becoming easier and more simple, maybe the game sells better that way, I mean you'll have alot more kids from WoW, and your playerbase will be ruined, and also the game won't be true to LoTR lore but what matters more is money right?
So what if some beta testers didnt liked the "Old" old forest, if Turbine had a determined goal in game design it would let it stay that way and not listen to what some kids wanted, so after launch we know the direction of this game will be determined by it playerbase even if that means ruining the gameplay even more?
"Old" Old forest was very well designed, I don't think it was perfect, should be even more of a maze, larger, scarier and challenging, they did the oposite showing they don't understand what middle earth is all about...

But then, that's what seems to sell.
1. Most of the old forest is the same
2. The openned up areas give a better forest feel , instead of running around in tree textured walls.
3 .you will still get losted in the complex areas of the forest
4. the out lined path is something that could go , but it will probably stay.
5. The Majority has to say exactly what is wrong , what needs tweaked and what they think could make it better on the Corrisponding beta forums. Developers DON'T RESPOND TO FLAMMING

1/2: If you are going to base a game on a pre-established rule, you can't have the majority deciding what goes and what stays. What can be decided, is within the confines of the world. Try and find any true wild forest in the world that has nice open areas. The Old Forests weren't nice opened up areas. They weren't even all that inhabited or built up. Putting paths and torches in, and opening areas up doesn't follow the aura of the world. Find any forest in the world, and you'll find that most of them are not nice opened up areas with nice torches around and paths to follow. They are dense, huge, and a pain to navigate. That's why people generally avoided them, and why they do in real life.
5: A majority of people don't get to decide what rules are and are not in force in the real world, and you can't do the same in another world. Why not add controllable cities and the ability to play evil characters as standard races? Why not have regular PvP in the game as well? That way an elf could wail away on a hobbit or a dwarf. Because that's not how ME works. The good races didn't fight each other like that, so how could you pull it off in a game about that world? You can't. If you want to play a game where anything goes, and rules don't need to apply, go play Diablo. If you want to enter Middle Earth, the Star Wars Galaxy, or any other pre-defined area, you should have to follow the rules of that world. And when did I say I was talking to the developers? I don't recall saying anywhere I was talking to the devs. If I was trying to, I'd be on the beta forums, not posting responses to people on this forum.
6: Obviously you really don't know what a flame war is, as this is NOT a flame war. If you want to see what a flame war is go into the WoW forum and post something like "WoW suxor, EQ2 roxor!" (or vice versa). Then you'll see what a flame war is. And before trying to sound like an expert, at least read the books (if you have I suggest reading them again), or at the very least watch the movies (they did a half decent job showing the Old Forest, and it was NOT a nice open area with torches and paths.
If you want a MMO where the majority rules, there are lots of them to choose from. Try them out and you'll find very quickly that every patch you have to relearn some part of the game, or bear with some major imbalancing because whiners got their way. That's not fun. It (like all the others) is a role-playing game. Sure it may not be 100% what you like, but that's just like real life. You have to learn to play to your strengths and minimize your weaknesses, and not whine about how unbalanced a game is because a meleer can't kill an archer from 100 yards; or how something has to change because it's "too hard" for the player. Not all games want to be mindless button mashers, and not all gamers want to be a button masher/grinder.

This whole topic is moved to the officail forums, solareus put the link from there to here, so all those in beta please go and make your input in the officail forum, so hopefully we can get something resolved besides a flame fest . I like open discussion but a lot of what your saying is just not clear , "it is to easy" was an excuse a child uses when he doesn't want to learn something new.

If you would got to yellow stone you would see very huge opne areas in the forest. The only types of forests that rarely have open areas are rainforests, so now you suggest middle earth is the Amazon ?
This is a flame fest, you 're candid answers are like sparks trying to ignite more conflict.
I love how half the people in this thread overeacted then started going on about their theories towards gaming and devs and whatnot when they havn't even played in the new old forest.
The change is not that great imo, it doesn't really make it easier at all, old forest or new forest, it's not a big deal when the change was so small...

For the most part we can see how codemasters betas end up going, I am very doubtful they have ever come through any beta yet with a positive out come. Seems like they are in the wrong business or something ....

What are you talking about?
The EU version is one patch behind US so what we get in EU is based on the american testers feedback.
Turbine rarely come over and post on our boards and that's a damn shame because there is tons of good suggestions how to improve their game even more.
If it was not for Satine from Codemasters a lot of the EU testers would have walked away simply because we're treated like second grade betatesters by Turbine.
Atleast there is one positive thing about beeing 1 patch behind US.
If Turbine release a bad patch the EU players most likely wont be affected by it because it can be fixed while doing the localized translations.
Virutella I have you guys posted any of this on Turbines main LoTRO boards? I know Turbine reads those, not sure if they come here or not though. Edit I agree wiuth Mars on this one, never had a warm fuzzy about Codemasters myself.
I loved the old Old Forest. It isn't supposed to be a normal forest in any event. The only reason they probably changed it was because people wouldn't take the time to learn to navigate it.
It is the same in that aspect, you will still get lost, it is just a lot more open , which really makes the whole area "pop"
The Changes to the old forest are good , the testers at Codemasters is always a bunch of criers, was the same way in archlords, you can never satisfy the testers there, they bitch about everything . Yea, but Archlords sux, so maybe the testers were on to something :-)

I suggest we turn a page on this intercontinental flame war and get back to discussion.
Having said that, hell yeah, old Forest is too easy. Why? They opened the river up, you can simply follow it to get to Ole Man Willow now from south. It was masterful before, getting lost around the river, just trying to find that right passage. Now I don't even have to look around, just run through. I thought you were supposed to get lost in Old Forest, can't see the reason to open it up besides for people to burn through content rather than enjoy some Middle-Earth immersion.
I've don't have that much trouble with the change, unless it's sign of things to come.
I have noticed in past beta tests that Devs tend to do what I call pendulem adjustments. In other words they go back and forth on balance till they reach a happy medium. What the testers need to do is make your feelings known on the beta boards and wait and see what happens between now and release. As I stated in another thread Turbine has been pretty responsive so far to the beta testers suggestions and nothing is set in stone. I ran through there last night with a character and suggested some changes on the thread on the beta board.
People have been complaining about the Old Forest as being too hard and confusing and mazelike for months. I think the changes just open the area up a bit and the torches...you're right thats an odd one.
This is an intriguing area of the game and I expect more changes will come for it over time, so no need to get too mad about the whole deal.

I live in the country and the woods here have wide open ares where ferns are and ect. If you would got to yellow stone you would see very huge opne areas in the forest. The only types of forests that rarely have open areas are rainforests, so now you suggest middle earth is the Amazon ?
This is a flame fest, you 're candid answers are like sparks trying to ignite more conflict.
Chill out, and smoke some pipe weed.
who me ?
I love how half the people in this thread overeacted then started going on about their theories towards gaming and devs and whatnot when they havn't even played in the new old forest.
The change is not that great imo, it doesn't really make it easier at all, old forest or new forest, it's not a big deal when the change was so small...
Currently Playing: Everything but MMORPGs
Cancelled: L2, FFXI, VSoH, LotRO, WAR, WoW

The EU version is one patch behind US so what we get in EU is based on the american testers feedback.
Turbine rarely come over and post on our boards and that's a damn shame because there is tons of good suggestions how to improve their game even more.
If it was not for Satine from Codemasters a lot of the EU testers would have walked away simply because we're treated like second grade betatesters by Turbine.
Atleast there is one positive thing about beeing 1 patch behind US.
If Turbine release a bad patch the EU players most likely wont be affected by it because it can be fixed while doing the localized translations.

The Changes to the old forest are good , the testers at Codemasters is always a bunch of criers, was the same way in archlords, you can never satisfy the testers there, they bitch about everything . Yea, but Archlords sux, so maybe the testers were on to something :-)

People have been complaining about the Old Forest as being too hard and confusing and mazelike for months. I think the changes just open the area up a bit and the torches...you're right thats an odd one.
This is an intriguing area of the game and I expect more changes will come for it over time, so no need to get too mad about the whole deal.
