World Selection Made Easier!

Starting March 8, 2007, players will be able to create new characters on the World of their choice. Up until now, Worlds would be randomly assigned to characters upon their creation, while only players with World Passes could join their friends. However, with this new adjustment, all players, even ones without World Passes, will have the option to select their realm at the character selection screen.

Ridiculous that it took them over 4 years to change this.  Just one of the many bad ideas introduced in this game.

Wasn not all random, it put you on servers that had lower population. The WP-cost was based also on how many people server had, more people = higher cost. That way you never ended up on a empty server.
The only problem is(was) for new players that cant(could not) afford the WP:s to invite friends to their server, other than that it was a fairly good system.

    Hi..

Yeah and starting 8th March, World passes will become void!, but Gold World passes will still be distributed among players who wishes to purchase them.

Well, If World server selection is up to player after 8th March, surely a few server/s will be more popular than other...

At least filled with more players who really want to play partying...

    haha..

    Me,
That's really a shame.  I had wanted to try ffxi years ago but the fact that you had to jump through hoops and everything else just to play with friends was downright assinine.  Now, however, its far too late.. shame really... maybe in the next one they do they will start out allowing people to choose where to play.

I really have to agree to the last few posts on this one, this feature came to little to late. My brother and I played this from launch for about a year and a half before we just fell out of it altogether, we were dumb lucky to land on the same server that time. Then last year we started again just for kicks and found our characters were gone altogether with no way to recover, and not far behind that was the strikely same pain of trying to start and be on the same server again, myself landing on Bahamut and he on Fairy, neither of us got enough for a WP before we just gave up again out of frustration of not being able to find groups without waiting for hours on end for enough people, or just always managing to find the most horrible groups possible. If SquareEnix is looking to reclaim anyone with this move they need to look far beyond this and look more at even so far as merging some of the servers to at lest give some a half decent population. Something better then a total of 300 to 500 people on at a time, most of whom are vets or simply selling something.

    Severius:

"maybe in the next one they do they will start out allowing people to choose where to play."

Isn't that exactly what is happening now?

    Guiltyone:

"Something better then a total of 300 to 500 people on at a time..."

    This I don't understand.

    From http://www.playonline.com/pcd/topics/ff11eu/detail/1522/detail.html

"Originally, the World Pass system was introduced to maintain a balance among all the Worlds and prevent overpopulation. However, with the continued stablization of each World's adventurer community and recent technical advances in server technology, it has been determined that allowing players to create new characters on Worlds of their choice would not greatly affect the current population balance."

Sounds to me that they are saying the worlds/servers are well balanced. I play on Fenrir, and have done so for a year. The players online has always been between 1500 and 4000, every single time i've checked.

Well Fenrir may be different but with me and my brother both saw only a general population of roughly three to five hundred. They can say whatever they like really as far as balanced, but still from what I saw when I played it wasn't close to that. There are still servers with extremely low populations from what I've heard from some of my old friends that have gone back. Because the server autosorted doesn't mean people later didn't gather to specific servers via the WP later on.

Guiltyone, this doesn't add up at all...

You and your brother are on Bahamut and Fairy, you said. Here's server rankings, after economy (which is directly affected by poplulation), with the place our 3 servers ranks in a list of all 32. As said, I'm the one on Fenrir. Of course, highest is best.

    Fairy: 3rd       Bahamut: 6th     Fenrir: 23rd

Based on 7 days analysis at http://www.ffxiah.com/big_graph.php?serverid=&span=3

Reading the numbers on that website, Fairy's and Bahamut's economy is quite high. In fact, the economy on Fairy, based on "the value of select items from each server" (FFXIAH's way to measure this), Fairy has an economy which is roughly 25% better than my server. These facts makes your statement even more weird and hard to understand.

  • guiltyoneguiltyone Member UncommonPosts: 103
Again this was my experience when I was playing, the economy was fine there, selling and buying wasn't the problem, it was finding individuals to play with, which while we were playing wasn't happening. If you want to see things for yourself, pony up the extra buck and go see them on another server, in short though I'm not going to continue this back and forth. Things could have changed yet again, while we were first playing the population fluxed back and forth very strongly in the first year, now may not be much different. The servers could be on the rise with returning accounts or new accounts, in either event all of this seems to matter less and less seeing that on the same website the total number of transactions for "all time" is constantly and steadly moving down hill showing an over all decrease in actual transactions per server. On a final note, remember that not all servers have the same population of english:european:japanese ration so the populations that I encountered could simply have been lower because the majority could be on later then I was. The reasons are infinate and it could be argued all day, but again what's the point I'll make a point, you'll counter, I'll retort accordingly, personally at this point I'm done. Two posts more then I expected to make, but certianly it won't be the last word.
