Simply Enjoyable

One of the things that makes me enjoy this game is the realm of the story. As a kid I group up loving to see anything about the Lord of The Rings because it is one of those great stories that in gulfs your inner nerd. Starting with the cartoons from the 70's and progressing into the books it all just feels good. The Peter Jackson movies where excellent and that is another pinnacle point in the LotR empire. This empire of Tolkien reaches father and wider then any other I.P. simply because it is older in its writing. The origin of almost all Fantasy is based upon Tolkien's works as well as the earlier writing throughout Europe of mythical creatures, like troll , goblins and elves.

From gaming in fps to mmo's and consoles as well, I'm finding a lot of elements that I really enjoy in the LoTRO game beta. The sense of purpose , of being inside the epic build up leading to a war of the ring is by far the most compelling purpose of any RPG player. Bringing into the light some of the not so familar areas of the epic books that missed the big screen adaptation is very exciting. With this game not only do I have great entertainment, but I am inside the great novelty of the 20th century, living and taking part of a grand orchestrated story, that throws you into some of the travels of our most cheerished adventures. Before Link of Zelda we had Bilbo , and Before Mario , we had Frodo , just 2 serreal characters that took us to places in our minds that we could of never imagined.

For me , this game represents all those feeling , all of the great adventures that lay ahead , and all of the good people of middle earth that will be along with me to journey into some of the unknown.

This is simply , enjoyable.

I'm really glad you are enjoying it and respect your opinion but I have to say I never felt like I was in Middle Earth. It just felt lifeless, and fake, and forced. I really wanted to like it. I've been watching this ever since it was called Middle Earth Online and it just wasn't any fun for me.

Trust me, I've seen all there is to see and I just don't get what others are seeing. You are allowed to disagree with me, but it won't change my mind.

Hey I understand, I did not enjoy some of the games you seem to like. Each to his/her own.

Thanks for you input , maybe someday you will find something in your life you can cheerish and feel how I feel. Until that time I feel sorry for your emptiness, it must be very cold.

Jackdog , we need to stop caring about the obvious trolls, and just enjoy what we find fun .

pb1285's post here wasn't a trollish post. He was just stating his opinion in a civilized way. I'm actually happy somone can say they don't like it and still respect those who do.

I have signed up for the beta here recently and I was wondering.... how far can this game go?? i know they've saved helms deep and mordor for other expansions but after they've done all that how can they add on to this game?  then i had an epiphany... if somehow they could get the land of Numenor in the game they can add a whole bunch of  lore and storylines... if somehow they can twist the world of tolkien (yea i know its scary) but if they can make some kind of time portal maybe they could open up the events of the 1st and 2nd ages of Tokien's world while adding depth and continents and story lines like that of Beren and Tuniviel (damn elven spellings) ... I don't know about the 4th age but this is something the folks at Turbine should look at if they want this game to extend its life and add depth for all that have done everything there is to do

That is ridiculous, lets throw in a stargate too so we can fly to  uranis , and visit the people of Village Dingle Berries. Come on .... Sounds kind of dumb doesn't ,when I word it like that.

I wouldn't be playing turbines adaptation if it wasn't AAA material.

Think  half of these forum users have become so blind that gaming is not even about enjoyment anymore, it is about putting down what other people like or find entertaining. It is really starting to be a sad place this forums, and as soon as LotRO launches , I will spend less time here and more time on the official forums. It is getting to the piont where I don't even want to post , but feel obligated to get some last effort points across on why some people choose things, like me and LotrO.  Thought be cool to share something but again , like so many things here , it is just another chance for someone to throw an egg.  Think the forum is headed in a pretty crappy directon with almost 0 positive out look on any topic , and it is really sad to see it getting in this shape. Think the site can function with out the forums and could be better off with out all the baggage most users bring to it.

The nature of the mmorpg.com forums is pretty adverserial Mars. Mainly because its a neutral ground. You don't really come here to for info on your game but to express opinions.

In general these forums provide zero info/help to a new or interested player these post are all about the opinions good/bad, trollish or not of the players. Take a good look at the topics. This site is where many folks stuck at work can easily troll...err voice their opinions and keep from getting bored lol. So yes, this site has lost alot of the spirit of MMO gaming and has turned into different "camps" of people who are more interested in proving what they play is superior or what you play is garbage. Take it for what it is bro, arguing tribes of trolls who are bored at work.

No joke. I mean, I've never understood this need to be "right" and to prove that "what I play is superior to what you play". Personally, I could give a flying f*ck what other folks are playing as long as they are happy playing it. Nothing is more childish than to start pissing contests over mine being bigger than yours. If you don't like something, then thoughtfully state the reasons why and move on. There is no need to bash or berate the game company or developers. To make such personal attacks just means you really don't have a valid point to stand on.

But, hey, for the most part it's a free world and if you want to show just how miserable your life is by constantly trolling forums, insulting people/companies post after post after post, more power to you. Just don't think for a minute that most people out there see you for what you are: sad.

I have been beta testing for a week now, and I have to say, I havent felt so excited about a game since the old SWG days.

I am really impressed, and this is only the beta!

I've been playing LOTRO since the start of beta 1. I agree with Rhoklaw's statement about running out of content in a month.

I know that they had the amount of experience increased early on to allow testers to get to content faster. I do not know if the curve will change at release. It has been lowered over the course of beta, though.

Personally, I'm glad that there isn't a big focus on Player vs Player combat. I think this is what is hurting WoW. Blizzard can't balance the classes, and all you have is contant buffs/nerfs. It gets old.

I think Turbine will add new functionality on a regular basis. I expect that Guild/Player Housing will be added as well as  more nonlinear things to do. New content  does not last long, but I am sure they will add a decent amount of content before an expansion.

What makes LOTRO a good buy now, is how stable it is. Compare it to other MMOs at release.

I have also been playing since early Beta and really like this game.  I went ahead and pre-ordered.  Just got my main to level 10.  Now he will stay in the game when it goes live.

Gonna play a few other classes in the meantime.  I love the graphics and the game runs so smooth on high settings.  I had hopes for Vanguard, but LoTR blows Vanguard away as far as fun and mechanics.  Turbine did a great job.  I also think the AC2 was beautiful.  Too bad it never made it.  I enjoyed that game too, but I hardly saw anyone playing half the time.

Your main from closed beta will not stay. When the open beta comes around and all closed beta characters are wiped, then the new character you create will be the one that lasts. And there is that level cap.

I just got started this past weekend..and I'm having a good time...leveled a Champ to 10, did a little monster play...now working on a Guardian (big fun to see Gandolf and Gimli as part of my storyline)

I really enjoy the lore of this game..... its what sets the game apart for me...
