for those who say elves are going to be popular i disagree
in most MMO's elves are very popular because they are the "pretty" race, but in WAR they stuck up posh elves are not going to be chosen because, frankly, they way elves fight just doesn't go with the general smack, slash, kill air of WAR, so i think the more dirty melee races are going to be chose, like orcs chaos and dwarves, of corse the witch hunters and warrior preists are going to be taken because they are iconic, and prolly squig herders, magus and maurader are going to be taken because they are just too kool, now if only we had dome fanatics...
Zealot sounds cool. Scarecrow totems FTW. Other than that maybe a Squig Herder or one of the Orc classes. I'd like to know what classes will be available to the Dark Elves.

I love any spell caster class, primary spell caster. Say like (in other games) a Paladin can do melee and use spells, I don't like that. All about the "Glass Cannon" for me. Anyway, I would love to play the Magus or Bright Wiz, but I want to play on the side that is in theory more mature and less players, to make it a little more interesting and harder. I would much rather run into battle with a little uneven and unsureness then be like "Ya we got 500 men, they got 400, we're going to win just by zerging!"
Danger, disadvantage (not overwhelming tho), nuking armies.... good times.... good times....
I've always loved the up close and personal melee classes. I tend to play them in most MMOs. So I'll probably be a choppa since I think the Orcs look awesome (and i have a soft spot fot them sine I played Orcs and Goblins on the tabletop warhammer, had a leader called Grom (medium sized Orc) who rode on a chariot and had a massive axe... ahh the days..)
If I dont go Orc I might go stunty (dwarf).
What do I think will be the most popular? Probably the witchunter since the concept art looks cool and that will attract a lot of people initially.
I think Squig Herders will be popular since they are harder to balance out and might have an advantage early on (think Hunters in WoW, where the hunter solos one creature and his pet solos another) And because in pvp/RvR you can put your squig to attack someone while you run away from them and keep them at a distance with your bow or whatever.
Chaos will be a popular faction and so will the dwarves.
Fell in love with the empire and will probably test all classes of them before i choose my main, sounds logical

Played a Mage Assassin in Shadowbane Played a Sorc, a Runie and a Theurg in DAOC Played Warlock/mage/shadowpriest in wow
Give me big dmg, give me some CC and Im good to go.
Im really excited to see what the dark elves and Chaos has to bring to the table as far as casters are concerned.
Im wondering to what extent there wont be any CC. Ive heard there wont be but I still cant help but wondering how fights will go if there are no snares, no stuns, no fear/sheep/seduce/mez/sleep. For me that just relegates it down to two people trying to tear each other up as soon as possible...sort of like a gunfighter shoot out. How fun can it be to face off with someone, I shoot you, you shoot me, etc etc etc till someone drops???
However, throw in the CC and that makes the fight interesting.
I do not think they are against crowd control, period (going so far as to have no stuns, snares,etc.), but merely against crowd control that totally or nearly removes your ability to fight back.
For example, mesmerize and polymorph and such would definitely be out. Anything that makes you unable to control your character, reducing you to just waiting to be hit/die, is no fun, so I am glad that it will not be in the game.
Snare technically isn't a form of CC, it's just a movement speed reduction. Stuns may be in but they will be short duration. There will be no mez, no sleep, no fear. This is a badly needed change from current PvP MMORPGs. Not being able to fight back is not fun. Mythic learned from DAoC the problems with having CC in a PvP-centric game. Buffbots are also gone. This is a very good thing.
I'm happy to not see CC in WAR.
As for classes, I will be playing a High Elf for sure.
I will admit that as a Warlock in WoW, I won many a fight by using Fear, DoT, DoT, Shadowbolt, Fear, Shadowbolt, Fear, and laughing as the enemy died. However, I openly admit that it was a very cheap tactic to use in PvP, and I'm not sorry to see it absent in WAR. CC that removes a player from the fight for more than a couple seconds simply isn't fun for the CC'd player.

I'm Thinking at Launch it will turn out alot like this :
*XXX* High Elf class - Elves are almost always the biggest pullers and well these are the "Good" elves.
*XXX* Dark Elf class - Ditto, Cept these are Bad elves...more appealing to some and less appealing to others.
Witch Hunter - Van Helsing is a DPS class...i don't think i need to say any more
Warrior Priest - Looks alot like a Paladin, Hybrid. So that is going to atract alot Of people as it has in every MMO before.
Though that is only what i expect at launch and what the first thing people roll will be. Mark my words here, If WAR turns out to be the True RvR game that everyone is expecting one or 2 unexpected classes on each side will be VERY popular for thier power and ease of play. My Money (with out knowing the elf classes at this point) is on the Runepriest. Tho thats just what my gut is telling me

I, more often than not, play a Ranged Character. Along with this I am always on the side of good.
That being said, I am particularly excited for the Tanking Class - Black Orc.
Not sure why! It goes against my mold of play but when I heard Paul mention that it would be pointless to learn tanking abilities and not be able to use them in a PvP environment it sparked intrigue.
Of course Elf's have yet to be announced so this choice is subject to change.

The problem with this thread is in a few months everyones opinions will change when the details for the Elves (high and dark) come out.
Same thing happened with the Dwarves and Orcs, everyone revised there opinion the minute the details of Chaos/Empire came out and we only definately know the complete details of the War priest/Zealot and the Magus/Fire mage. Wait until the details of the other classes come out... suddeny everyones main choices will change... yet again.
Up until they give the details for the very last class, for the very last races... every single one of us will be changing our minds on what we want. Its kind of like going to Baskin Robins and the sampler guy only gives you the name and sample of one ice cream each visit and after you have tried all 41 flavors thats when you get to decide which flavor is your favorite.
We have yet to sample all the flavors yet No use getting ahead of ourselves!

about me, i would roll warrior priest. but in the end i'll choose wutever fits my playstyle most. so i'm ruling out pet classes and tanks.

I think is is going to be lots of elves. Out of the already released classes I think it is going to be the Squig Herder and the Witch Hunter.
I am going to play as a Magus. Raining destruction down from atop my own flying mount makes me giddy.
