Is it too late to start out?

This would be my first MMORPG and I was wondering how the gaming would be or is it too late to start out playing a game like this. Also can you solo this game or is it mainly guilds or group quests?

It's never too late to start. People are always starting out new "toons", so there are usually plenty of people to group with. However, there is PLENTY of solo content if that is your bag. In fact, I decided to start a troubador for the hell of it. So far, I have soloed him to level 57 without any problems, but necromancers and conjurors make for the best solo classes (IMHO). My personal preference is for the necro due to lifetaps and feign death which will save your life countless times.

I started out with EQ2 as my first MMORPG, after reading a lot of the forums and posts here. I was actually more interested hearing from those who left the game, and came back, and why they did. Although no game is going to be perfect, and every game will appeal to someone in a different way, I still feel that EQ2 is a good game to start with.

Is it too late? Never. People will get to a certain point with a character, and then decide to start a whole new one. Well, let me put a caveat on that - if you are looking to top out on the leader-boards, then it is probably too late to start. If you just want to have fun, anytime is a good time to start. Get the trial of any game before you pick, remembering that they aren't going to put their best content in there, and see if it suits you. I know a few of my guild mates, who have left as new games have come online, and come back, so there must be something good about it.

Myself, I love it. There's always something to do, and depending on my mood, time available, and attention span at the time, I will log in a different character. Heck, I still have one left on the starter island, that I got bored with and never went back to (didn't really like the class), and have some in all different stages of the game.

It's definitely not too late to start the game. I've rejoined for the 2nd time, picked up the Faydwer expansion, and started a Fae Guardian not but 3 weeks ago and it's going quite smoothly for me. I still have my old characters too (65 templar, 44 bruiser, 33 Shadowknight), but it's more fun for me to start a new character after taking a break from the game.

I would say if you can find a nice guild of people to play with it makes the experience all the more fun, especially when beginning. It'll allow you to have a group you're comfortable with when you need to ask all the questions that will spring to mind, plus give you a source for people who can come mentor you if/when you need to have help in doing a quest or  later in the game- raiding (if you like to raid).

And the nice thing about starting now is that you can pick up the original game with all 3 expansions in a $40 pack, instead of purchasing everything separately like I did.

To answer your question- you can solo the whole time if you like to do that. You might not be able to do all the quests yourself, and may need a bit of help from a group now and then, but for the most part a vast majority of the game is easily soloable. My new guardian is lvl 25 and hasn't been in a group at all. My bruiser was leveled mostly by soloing or duoing with my girlfrined. Grouping is the quick way to get things done, and will get you more experience faster than soloing, but soloing is easy and you don't have to wonder about who you're playing with.

I would agree with the previous poster too, who said to give the trial a shot. it's free and you can get a slight taste of what the game has to offer.

If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me. I have a good amount of knowledge of the game and would be glad to answer anything.

Not too late, but you may notice level ranges where it's hard to find groups.   I can't say I'd suggest EQ2 as a first MMO.  I'd try WoW first, it's a training wheels MMO and they open up new servers with fresh populations every other week (unlike EQ2).
