The rumor is out about the "Kunark" expansion possibly being the theme of the next EQ2 expansion. What does everyone think? Should SOE keep going with the whole nostalgia thing or should they go for totally new stuff?
I thought EoF was an amazing expansion. It gave everyone something to do from level 1-70, and gave us old EQ1 folks a taste of nostalgia. I really hope they keep introducing new content, but also keep up with the old school EQ1 stuff revamped.
Having never played EQ1, I probably shouldn't post, but I know quite a few that played (and some that still do) EQ1, and don't really mind when they mention "hey the chess-board, I remember that!" For me, it's new and the expansions keep it exciting. The only thing I hope they don't do, is make the quests exactly the same, giving an advantage to those who played (or play) EQ1. That's just my, very biased, opinion! Ask someone from EQ1, and they would probably love it!
If SOE is using the "nostalgia" angle to cut development time (just take some existing zones and content and re-vamp them) then I think that it will come back to bite them. But if they are just over-lapping one world, that is being played in two different times, then whose to say it won't be even better? Do you really want to buy a copy of a 1963 Vette sold at 2007 prices? Or would you like a car that looks like the classic, with newer safety features, better fuel efficiency, better radio, etc? If I wanted a '63 Vette, I"d buy a '63 Vette. But give me a car that looks like the '63 Vette, but performs and has the features of a more current model and you have my money. I would have used the Mustang, but that's kind of what they did, and they did a good job, IMHO. (Back on track) I don't care if it's a place that somebody else has already visited, as long as it's updated, and playable by my EQ2 toon!

I think Kunark is perfect for the next expansion. And i think to a lot of players this would be new territory as a lot have not played original EQ.
The only certainty in life is death
