I find this game to be one of the best rpg cames I've played to date, mind you it is STILL in alpha. It can only get better. The graphical material and storyline as of yet are just great. The fact they (arena net) plan on having exp sets every 6 months says that I will most likely be playing this game for a long time.

Trust me. Get the demo and be there during E3. The things you see there will most likely be NOTHING compared to the final release. Cause each day it gets better and better!

The Death system, imo, is a lot better then any rpg out on the market. I would love to go into detail as to what it is exactly but there is an NDA in place. I will tell you this, dying isn't good, but can be over come in time.

Do you think it would be smart for a full support person to go Monk/Mesmer or Mesmer/monk?

Hi there, thanks for your time lucky alpha testers :)
I have heard that you can choose a secondary profession, and read this "issue 5" on http://www.photics.com which includes a skill list. My question is, which skills can you get for your secondary profession? Any? If not, what kind of restrictions do you have?

Thx, cya soon for 2 days ;)

You can choose any skill from both professions. Although, take in consideration this is still Alpha Test, that it might change in later date. But for now, you get every skill from both professions.

    EDIT: Oops, typos :).

I actually play a Mesmer/Monk, and I enjoy it thoroughly. Even though Mesmer is not fully implemented, Monk makes an extremely good compliment. However, Monks are typically targetted first in PvP, because of their healing abilities (even though I'm smiting Monk rather than healing), and Mesmer as well, since they can be really annoying. So, you might have to be "evasive". image

    A few questions:

    1) Are there any sort of short-distance teleportation spells besides the necro's "corpse-hopping"?

    2) How exactly do the skills work? I know that you only get more as you level, but do you have to get spells in a certain order? Are there prerequisites? Or can you pick any skill you want when you level?

    3) I've seen a couple "freeze" type spells that the elementalist has, but neither look to be very effective. Are there any spells that can completely slow down (but not freeze) an enemy, allowing you to still attack the target without breaking them out of it, and without a huge upkeep? Any area of effect spells like this?

    4) Arena net has said that players will know what class they want to be before they need to pick it. How exactly does this system work?

  • flamindeathflamindeath Member Posts: 40

What yeyeman meant was you CAN get any skill from either profession image.

    1) As of right now there aren't any others that I know of.

    2) You can only get skills by spending a small amount of gold and using a skill point, mainly though, you need to have a skill gem of the skill that you want.  For example if you want the warrior skill hamstring you have to either trade another player for this gem, buy it off the gem trader, if he is selling it, or wait till you get it from monster drops.  You get a skill point when you level, but you can also get them by doing a few different quests.

    3) At this point I cannot think of any spells of this type.  As a matter of fact I'm not even sure if they have implemented any Ice type elementalist spells (though I'm sure they will, because ice/water certainly counts as an element).

    4) I'm not really sure what you mean by this, but I'll take a stab at it.  I assume they mean that the player will know if they want to be a ranged attacker (ranger), a tank (warrior), a supporting caster (monk, mesmer), or a supporting damage dealer (necromancer, elementalist).  If you are the type of person who likes to stand in the background dropping meteors on the enemies, then you will immediately grab the elementalist for some high damage magic attacks.  If you like toughness and running up and beating the crap out of stuff you will probably pick warrior image, and so on.  After that, you can experiment with different secondary classes to see which set of dual classes you like the best, are most effective, and/or suit your type of playing.  In my case I knew I wanted a necro/something even when I wasn't in alpha just because I love undead magic, etc. image

ok so do u noe wat the starting weopons are for an elemmentilist and necromacer or all of them?image

  • flamindeathflamindeath Member Posts: 40

Of course, I haven't been able to try all the dual class sets yet, but I think at this point you either start with a starter sword or starter longbow and can pick up a starter wand cheap if you wnat the extra energy.  All my __/warrior or warrior/__ classes started with starter sword, while all my other dual classes seemed to start with a bow.  I'm not really a certain however, maybe another tester can verify this.

Right now I don't think there are any other teleportation spells right now, but there are quite a few short-ranged spells (at least for the Necromancer, which is usually what I play: Nec/Mesmer). Most of the other short ranged stuff is used to drain the enemy of different aspects (I would say more, but I'm not so sure how far we are allowed to go image).

    1. Are there any mounts in the game? Maybe even ones, which you could use in combat? I saw a screenshot, where somebody was riding on some kind of monster - was this a mob or a player?

    2. Are there a lot of profession clothes? Because I have seen the screenshot of the Ice Elementist and I actually realized that her total appearence looked "icy". So will have Fire mages wear red wear, with flames on it, spiky hear etc?

    3. Can you say something about crafting and trading maybe? Is there a crafting system?

    4. Do you know if more ranger pets are planned than the Lynx?

Can your second profession be the same as your first making you a lot more powerful and have more skills etc?

    Thanks for time

No, you cant have 2 same professions. It dosent let you pick your same profession for your second one.

  • flamindeathflamindeath Member Posts: 40

    1. No there are no mounts in this game right now, mainly I think because they simply would make you move faster, and this is unneeded with the sprint skill and the way you can teleport from outpost to town, etc. almost immediately (simply has to load and download and new updates).  If there were mounts in combat then it would give an extreme, unfair advantage to anyone who had one, even if they only increased speed.  I'm not sure if you can bring your pets (like lynxes) into combat or not as they have not yet implemented this feature into the game.

    2. This might be changed later in the game but right now your primary class will always start looking the same.  However, if you are going to specialize in fire, you can always dye all your armor red, and pick red hair for your character, or use blue dye for ice, etc.  There are quite a few different shapes of hair that you can choose (i.e. ponytail, straight, etc.) already and the game is still in alpha, so by beta or release you will most likely have tons of different choices in this regard.

    3. The crafting system in this is a lot different than in other games.  In Guild Wars, instead of wasting hours and hours collecting materials, practicing being a crafter, then finally crafting your item, and having a chance of it breaking, you simply collect the materials, give them to a crafter npc and pay him a fee in gold, and then you will have your item.  There is no chance that after all the time you took collecting the components and the fee, it will all be wasted by some bad luck.  They haven't yet introduced a full trading system, but might have one by E3, as the developers are extremely hard working.

    4. I do not know about this at the moment.

    Hypnotoad:

Right now, the answer is no, but I think I have heard somewhere that you can choose to not HAVE a secondary class which will mean you can concentrate all your stat and skill points on your single class, and also will probably become very adept at using this character.

    1)When will beta start?

2)What do you get when you raise levels, besides more skills, since most of the game doesn't depend on lvl?

    3) Is this more like a game with massive amount of people on a server, or like diablo where you choose channels to go to?

    1) There is no words on that yet.

    2) I am not pretty sure.

    3) This is a game with massive amount of people on a server. Not like Diablo where you choose a channel to go.

Mesmers have a skill called Imagine Burden that slows enemies and will not be broken if you keep attacking the target. That also have a skill called Epidemic that in effect turns a single target skill into an area of effect skill. It spreads negative conditions to enemies that are near the target. One of my favorite combos for this is shooting the target with a poisoned arrow (Ranger skill) and then casting epidemic (mesmer skill) on that target and all nearby enemies will be poisoned.

I think the devs of this game are pure geniouses. This will be the EQ killer if pulled off right. I mean who's gonna want to pay 13 bucks a month when you can play a better MMO for free? I just have one question.

Does the stream technology lag your game as it DL's?

No, the stream techonolgy does not lag your game as it DL's. To take the conversation even further...you dont even notice when it DL's :).

Yeah, even with some of the longer loads it just seems to take only a second or two longer. It's very cool how it works, no more waiting for like an hour or two for those big updates. Although I am not sure how long it will take for you guys in the E3 test; may be alot to download for the first time on. But I trust that ArenaNet will not have any problems.

I hope this question has not been answered in another thread, but I hadn't seen it so I'm asking.

Is there going to be an open beta for GW before it's official release?

I hope so because the E3 alpha demo was fun, and I only got to play for a few hours before mother nature so rudely fried my mother board on my computer.
