Open beta status ? This must be a joke.

I hate to say this because I looked forward to playing this game but the game isn't close to be an open beta.

I get disconnected all the time, get loads of crashed to the desktop and there is some kind of weird lag that warps you over the landscape when you are "running" .

Many other people experience the same problems.

I leave this game now and in a month or 2 I try it again and hopefuly they solved these problems.

The way it is now is more for alpha testers then for open beta testers imho.

This game is pretty rough for an OB. I lag all the time and get disconnected, plus there's a few annoying bugs, like my character going transparent. The controls in this game are pretty horrendous. I sure hope they don't keep the current setup.

all that open beta means is that the beta is open to all..... ponder on that a second.

Doesnt mean it is to the standards of other open betas (which are essentially try before u buy periods).

This is more like an open closed beta.

i alway have a fun time when i read these posts.

lag all the time...yes there is are big problem with the servers atm so all we can do is wait.

character going transparent....you have not tried it much have you? first of all your character goes transparent when you move your mouse over it. this can be removed by changing the setup in option.

controls....again check the options and you will see you can change the keys to your likings.

The open beta's I have been into where about stress tests and to see how many servers are needed for release.

The game should be ready and just fine tuned for release and not filled with bugs like crashes to desktop al the time.

I can live with the fact that in open betas lag can be a problem but thats the main reason for an open beta imho.

If I would love to figure out all the bugs for them I would sign up for an alpha or closed beta but I am not that kind of guy who wants to endure all those bugs.

Everyone's concept about what an open beta should be is going to be different.  Some companies see them as little more than a free demo right before the game is released, with stress testing and very minor bugs being the only beta part.  Obviously this is not the case with Ryzom, since it is months away from being completed or shipped.

Many gamers seem to see it as the "free demo", so in hindsight maybe the devs should have held off a little bit on going completely open... bringing in a smaller amount of people for a continued closed beta.  But when people play any kind of beta, even open beta, they really shouldn't expect it to be a finished and bug-free game.  The point of any beta is to test the game... and help the devs get rid of bugs and get feedback on everything.

There's no doubt Ryzom and its developer is different and somewhat esoteric.  So they are bound to do things a little differently, and they don't have all the resources that the bigwigs like NCsoft, SOE and Blizzard have.  But they have vision, and have some very innovative ideas... so I'm going to have patience with them as they get over these technical hurdles.

Very well put and I wish you good luck testing The Saga of Ryzom :)

I think it would be IMPOSSIBLE to get this game running good at the time they will rellease it.

Its funny cause we only are solving the bugs for about 1/3 of the game so.......

Either they postpone the game or go bankrupt when the release it at the given time....

Or maybe there oging to pull something up there sleaves?????

    Nuffsaid

I'm willing to bet they aren't shipping on the June release date that people are talking about.  If they're smart they will release in the fall.

I would like to remind you that this gane got throught long month of closed beta. Also, they said they will concentrate on the fyros territory for now but will bring the other territories a bit later. In that way, fyros territories might be the only thing they didn't test in their closed beta.

And with the latest Dev chat they have made, you should read what have been told. Just be a bit patient and if you prefer come play in a month but don't say it's bad because of a beta.

Beta are suppose to be full of "bugs". The entire client crashing because of a problem in the code and the character becoming permanently corrupt is no simple bug. Playing Ryzom made me think they made the game on one kind of computer with an Nvidia card and all of the developers computers who tested it in alpha only had Nvidia cards. Well, this all makes me wish I had a Nvidia card. Lol. Regardless their graphics engine is very unstable with any other card other than the one stated above. If you dont have a card made by nvidia prepare to lose a few Beta characters. x.x

I have a Nvidia GeForce4 card and I get frequent crashes to desktop too.

I have no idea if this is caused by the graphics card tho.

Dunno what kind of problems ATI users have ?

I get crashed to desktop every 10-20 min but I know that this is beta so I have no problem with it.  I don't mind any of the bugs.  Lag does get anoying at times but i can deal with it.  I was also in the closed beta wich was increadlbly small compared to what it is in open beta.  There were only 2 places to go and there were very very few people on a time.  The closed beta land and the land that we are now playing on is differ.  BUt this is only beta so if you don't like all of the bugs and the lag then don't play it.  Wait a little while and then see if the patches they update it with will help solve the problems.

Well I gotta tell you that I've never had ANY connection problems with this game. Minor lag sometimes, yes, but nothing serious.

  • xraederxraeder Member Posts: 1
I haven't experienced crashing problems, but the lag is terrible. I have only crashed to the desktop 3 times over a 6 day period. I have an ATI card. The problems that I've seen are all minor. All in all, I'm pleased with this beta, but I don't think that it will be ready for release when they have stated.

I am glad to say they have finally fixed some of the lag issues.   I guess they had to make it a major priority cos of all the complaints, but I had no noticable lag last night, and the universal channel had many cries of 'OMG theres no lag!!' throughout the night so I know it wasn't just me.

I admit the game is very rough for an open Beta, but they are working on stuff at leastimage

  • NeolanceNeolance Member Posts: 44
Yea most of the lag is now gone.  But I still crashed just now.

  • neschrianeschria Member UncommonPosts: 1,406

I didn't crash at all today, no lag to speak of, and things that weren't working before are working now. Progress is a beautiful thing.

I wasn't sure about this game to start with, but now that I have made a few different kinds of characters and figured out how it works (more or less), I am having fun. And fun is why I play. :)

I am also impressed with the progress made, and I have been a suporter of this game for quite a while as I like the setting and some of the ideas......  but the graphics are starting to bug me....  Not just because my fyros crafter looks like a refugee from DE land in LII if she wears medium armor (although that does bug me) but the people do look a bit like tubes joined with balls and textured..... I do hope there is some tweaking of the characters before release

Ryzom is a beautiful game with alot of great ideas but it needs more content and more social features such as social clothing and social emotes.

One thing I do really like is the facial tattoos/patterns for all the races,  I think this is a nice extra way to express yourself although alot of them do seem quite faint in game, unless you get really close to the person

Well i guess ill throw in my .02 and introduce myself to the boards :)

I downloaded it last night, and jumped in game, the char creation is good, even if the models are a little simple. Making a char is fine, but i dont like the "sliders" they use, and i couldnt find a way to use arrow keys or anything, so i had to be very careful as to not fly thru the different styles, especially on the Mask Tats.

I jumped in game and it was alright, movement sucks until you reconfig your keys, but then its ok, still better then Lineage 2's point and click movement. Combat is ok, but it seems like some spells just dont do much that i can see, or maybe they dont land, mind you im still only about half an hour into playtesting as ill get to now.

5 Minutes into playing, no lag, lookin good, then i get the little computerX in the lower right hand corner, took me a min to realize i lost connection. So i restart, try again, and everything is ok, then all of a sudden i stop moving again, well after 3 server crashes (or possibly just my computer connection? i dunno) i tried a different server, and the same thing happened, literally less then 5 mins into each play session i got the little red CompX and disconnection.

Overall thou it seems like it could be a very nice game, but i dunno if combat will be that great at higher levels, enemies move Uber fast compaired to me it seems, and thus far my spells arent doing too much damage. . . . thou i do have a ton of life as a mage in comparison to most other games magic users.

I have been playing Open Beta for about 10 days. The game now plays well on my Nvidia FX5600 with a little lag during peak times. There was one day when it crashed every 5-20 mins, a couple of patches seem to have fixed that ::19. The devs seem to be busy sorting out the lag problems. I played 2 hours last night with no problems. The game is still in Beta so expect bugs and crashes.
  • SamuraiSamurai Member Posts: 7
Well I played Ryzom a bit after it went OB. I found it to be a good game, but the lag/connection problems plus the constant crashing eventually made me unistall the game. I think what put the final nail in the coffin for me was when the client crashed ( this is not an exaggeration in any way) literally 2 seconds after I started playing.

Yes, but it's just that most MMORPGs don't go open beta until the very final stage of testing, so usually you can expect the game run very well for the most part and have a 'mostly finished' feel to it. However I agree that SoR needs an immense amount of work and polish before it is ready for release in my opinion. I very much doubt that they will be able to get the game up to par by the mid-June release date they currently have.  Plus it just wasn't very fun as well.
