I've thought about coming back to the game. I quit in the old days because I found combat boring, this was right after release. Is it anymore interesting running missions now? Also, if I wanted to go purely economic, mining and manufacturing, is that entertaining? I'd never given that htought before, but I've been getting more interested in an economic sim type mmorpg.

As noted in the post above, the markets are just a little funky, but that's to be expected with all the wars and such going on. You can have good times mining/manufacturing along with some pew pew to break the monotony.

Current Games:
EVE Online - Co-CEO RTN [SOL]
FFXI - WHM 19/BLM 13 - Valefor Server
gameplay and physics of space will always be the same
Market has improved since more players are on and active in market
Overall it just keeps improving, but can only improve as much as the players allow it to since its pretty much
player dependant except for a few aspects of game
Unfortunately CCP seems to be setting up for major overhaul due to Vista deployment, but its still a great environmet
and game to play
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
the last scheduled lottery's for these BPO's are already on their way, after these are done the invention process takes place and ALL T2 BPO'S will become BPC's, which means a huge expansion on players that are capable and want to to trading/research/manufacturing
Combat and tactics - these are still issues to be worked out, but as far as the actual gameplay it is by far more complex and realistic than any game you will ever play. This isnt a "warp in, attack, kill, loot, warp out" kinda game. Takes lots of skill due to the realistic physics or the ships and style of flying and the guns used
This game is so huge you just cant judge it on a couple of factors cause it offers so many variables within the game that you can find something you might like
EvE is not for everyone, it is definitely an acquired taste because of its complexity, but if you are looking for a real challenge in an environment that is completely unforgiving and rewarding at the same time, then this game is for you.
If you are expecting to just get in a ship and shoot some people then you are fooling yourself and wasting your time and money cause this game is not for you
i.e. i like the PvP soly because it aint twitch / action oriented i like it alot more stratigic i also enjoy mining and playing the markets doin the industrial side of things if you are someone who enjoys those types of games ull get a kick out of it too probably
the markets do fluctuate but it would b alot more boring if they didnt i sugest u try it again for yourself as the only person who is gonna know the game is right for you is you
So, both Manufacturing and Mining takes time and is boring.
PVP? Well I'd say that's the second most fun part of EVE. The first is just being social with corp-members, friends and others on the community. But to go up close by an enemy in my t2-fitted flycatcher and tear through their sorry excuse for a ship and then send them back to their cloning vats. That's what I call fun.
Of course that does not go for everyone, I am sure.
EVE is a game with a great many oppertunities, if one seeks them. Pirating, mining, building, transporing and on the list goes.
But if you get into the game thinking something is boring from the start, most certainly it will be or become boring. I began that way. For the first 2 months I did no mining, thought it dull. But then a friend brought me out into a belt in 0.0 with crokite-roids. Sure, pvp was much more fun, but it was not boring. Why? Because I was socializing at the same time.
Now-a-days I've even gotten into manufacturing. That too is fun because while pvp is great, it does not get you into that carrier(am only a month or two away from one atm), or such as quickly as selling loads of wares for high 0.0-prices. <evil grin> A perk of 0.0-life I guess.
Enough of that though.
What I mean by this useless post is that everything is implemented in this game for a reason. All parts of the game are fun to some, but not to others Im sure and it is only up to you. So if you want to try this game again, I advice that you either decide upon what you wish to aim for and see if that was any fun, or try out both mining(preferably in a group of 3-10 people so you have a few to talk away the time with), manufacturing(it can feel a bit lonely though as in both pvp and mining your usually in a group, but this you usually do alone) and pvp.
Whether you find it fun or not is up to you in the end though as we can only speak of what we find fun and/or boring ourselves.
