It's funny, for all the people saying how badly Vanguard's community sucks, this thread does not say good things for the LOTRO community.
Which means it must just be this site. Don't know why I hang out here so much.
Meh, this is the most rabid community Ive seen for a game. Not just on these boards, on all official and unofficial boards also. Cant wait to hear the clashes between LOTRO kiddies vs the LOTRO harcore RP'rs.
I don't know how many people can even start reviewing the game when it is still in beta, i myself am still trying to obtain a beta key so i can get a glimpse of something i might want to purchase in the future.
If you want to have a look at what i would call an alpha game released as retail then go no further than lookign at Vanguard, poor, very poor, with some poor reviews too. Vanguard could have been much better, maybe in a years time it would have got to the stage of what it should have been released at.
I have heard good and bad about Lotro, but to get the better picture it is always worth taking a first hand look and keeping an open mind about things, if you dont like the game in beta, thats your prerogative, but give the thing a chance. It hasnt been released yet and only then can you give in a verdict. A beta is where you help them fix the problems the game has.
I dunno, all I see here is a lot of Vanguard players, miffed off that thier forum is full of complaints, mostly about the Vanguard community and thier behaviour.. so they come here to start a troll and flame war too, to make it even. Very little said here has substance or even contact with reality... But lots of new posters, 50-100 posts, that registered here after vanguard lost its forum, just doing their best to harass another community so they can say "Hey.. look, yer mad.. I really dont think you can accuse Vanguard players for being abusive, look how you behave now"
Unfortunatly.. As always, noone will stop them, and anyone that stand up to that community and their despicable behaviour, that they have had in their own forum since before beta, will get banned. Good game

Correct - no review is possible currently from LOTRO. What we can have is previews.
And by no means is LOTRO ready - I seem to have a memory leak bug, which strikes randomly after 30-200 minutes of play, causing a wild swapping effect dropping FPS from the ususal 30-40 down to 5-8. Only restart of the client helps.
Also, yesterday I got stuck a couple of times, and a strange bug caused my character to be dark, as if I were in constant shadow. Even weirder, that I could jump (!) out of this strange shadow, while leaping in the air my character was lighted perfectly, but when dropping back on the ground, it "went dark" every time.
But no game-stopping bugs, and excellent performance otherwise all the time

The first sign that LotRO will annoy me is that I have to wait through 10 different splash/loading screens before I get into gameplay. And another 3 screens to get to Monsterplay. That is at least 5 minutes worth of merely logging in and waiting for the dumb game to do its crap before I even get to play. Yeah that is fun! This game bombards you with way too many silly quests. The sheer number of quests makes me care about none of them. Also, the quests give you poor instructions such as "Go south of this city and look for Mr. Waldo". South of an entire city to find one person? That is a lot of help. There is no minimap feature for NPCs. There are no NPCs that can help you locate other NPCs. If I wanted to look for an NPC thousands of times in a video game, I would have bought the video game "Where is Waldo?"! There is nothing new and orriginal about LotRO. Some say Monsterplay is an orriginal idea but I disagree. Monsterplay is merely a PvP zone added onto the game as an afterthought. The "ettenmoors" is a poorly designed zone for PvP. Combat in Monster Play degenerates to players camping in places where PvE characters guard them and kill the other players. Hmm... I thought this was supposed to be a PvP zone. If you enjoy LotRO keep playing... but there is no way I will.
Oh, the drama.
5 minutes to log in? That's definitely not typical for anyone with a computer built in the last 2 years or so. Are you on dial up or something? As far as PvP, it really doesn't fit into the theme of LoTR. I'm happy that Turbine is trying to avoid pitfalls like that. The last thing that a carebear like me would want is my PvE game being balanced in the name of PvP.
Not a fan of the I.P. particularly (in fact I couldn't be more sick of elves and dwarves) but I am certainly looking for something new to tide me over 'til the end of the year when the games I'm *really* looking fwd to start kicking out. Having no access to beta, I'm forced to trawl through these forums trying to glean whether or not the graphics and gameplay in this game are good enough to hook me in despite the genre. The OP's opinion certainly wasn't worthless, since he/she made it clear why they didn't like the game so I can gauge pretty accurately that we have different tastes and hence their dislike may not be mine. So thanks, it all helps!
Too bad most of the rest of this thread got hijacked by MySpace kids.

If you really wish to get to know LOTRO better w/o being in the beta, I suggest either reading the official forums, or the informative posts here in MMORPG.com - alternatively, feel free to start your own thread with questions, we'll be happy to answer. I think there are already chains that would prove much more useful to you than the obvios troll fodder ones...

I am not part of the LOTRO communty, since I'm not even playing the beta (Willing though). Its just that if someone claims that quests are too much of a hassle (Or too hard for certain people to find), I simply believe they didnt try hard enough. Is that so wrong?

Matter of taste. If you are questing solely in order to gain XP and level up, then they can be "tedious". I did a quest chain yesterday that involved running between 2 NPC's at least 7-8 times, with nothing much to be done (not much killing etc).
However, if you do read the whole story behind the quest chain and you let yourself be immersed into it - you will enjoy it very much, unlike the "gather 60 cotton for no obvious reason" type of quests I prefer questing when I'm properly entertained.
Of course, entertainment means different things for each one of us, so it all boils down to matter of taste eventually.

I did not say that I did not find or solve the quests that were offered to me... I merely stated that the process of doing quests for every townsfolk was un-fun, annoying, and downright painfull. Games are supposed to be fun. I did not enjoy the quest process in LotRO at all.
In the books, how many quests did Frodo have? Did Frodo have to talk to thousands of people and wander the land looking for thousands of people? No.
"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve." Sound familiar? That is how I feel about LotRO quests. Too many to bother with and too many not worth bothering with.

If one finds that the "quests are too much hassle" you suggest that said person should try harder to enjoy something they clearly do not? This to me sounds like the sort of thing someone who has transgressed the entertainment/lifestyle choice barrier might say.
Believe it or not BizkitNL some people play MMORPGs to be entertained. If the entertainment isn't forthcoming then some people switch it off and bin it.
Some people enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles or crosswords for fun, others find them a hassle and thus unenjoyable.

When I first went to the Shire from Bree, I got sick of all the quest rings.
Now that I've played the game for months, and have a better idea of what to pick up and what to ignore, I am not
bothered by the amount of available quests.
I don't think that quests should say, "Go to Mr. BillyBob, he is on the third house past the Main Stable". I don't mind looking around
for someone.
I have an old computer and the loading screens get on my nerves, but I don't see it as that big of a deal.
They don't take that long and there is only a few, not 10.
I also like Monster Play. Best thing about LOTRO, I hate class balancing based on PVP.
unfortunately that seems to be exactly what they are doing, even though they stated they would not do that
I liked the quests myself, too bad they destroyed the casual friendly game play with their last patch
