Hey all, let me get this off my chest, I played Beta of Vsoh, and frankly i was dismayed at the dismal performance, but here is the catch, i cant exactly put a respective judgement since i had a 3200+ AMD 2gb of 400mhz DDR (corsair) and a x800XL. definitely not respectable for such a game. I did enjoy my cat Dread knight when i was in beta, but felt the animations were stiff stactic and otherwise uninspirirng in combat, lot of glitches, no real quest problems I came across minus one time I fell thru the terrain in which I needed a Gm to help me back out, also had the issues with the server knocking me off, but i think we all went through that one time or another.
right now I am looking for another MMO, cause WoW is truly tiring me out, its fun and all, but my guild is almost all but useless, as I barely do things with them minus a few friends in my guild who are my level, other people i met I group with regularly and my brother and nephew lol but overall the game doesnt do anything for me I am lvl 62 shadowpriest and the game hasn't any true substance,
the PVP is a joke. After you play Lineage2 as long as I did almost all MMO's loook tame. I like the danger, the unknown of someone potentially clubbing the crap out of me, and me getting mad, and sucking it up and make it my sworn duty to gain more levels and beat on the next low level i see myself, thus continuing the cycle of hate lol. I played SWG (but we wont get in that big old bag of ugly now will we),
played MXO awesome combat system, horrible quest/mission system that puts my brain to sleep. as you can see I love quests, i love story arcs, I am one of the few people who get a kick out reading the quest and its story content and following to the end conclusion.
the diplomacy intrigues me but I no nothing really about it, perhaps you can fill me in on that.
I am a bit embittered by my experience as you can see, but part of it was my low end (considered by todays stanards) system, and the overall general release in whch the game in its current state, got me mad, cause I felt this game could use some TLC for the next few months before releasing, but reality steps in when you take in consideration corporate investments wanting to see a return so I cant truly blame them, but at the same time id like to anyway lol.
now jump ahead. I now have a
there's my system. Now I need views from people who are currently playing the game someone who can give me a no holds barred take on the game, no fan boi crap, just keep it cut and dry, what it offers, what problems if any I may come across, what they are doing currently, what issues are being addressed, what is instore for the future, links to performance tweaks, forum links from devs, etc perhaps.
secondly, but more importantly will i get really good performance with this sytem. ( i understand there is an issue with 8800's is this true? is it being worked on? and if so how long til we see respectable performance to its true level where it should be)
I just want to like this game,( damn near screamed when i made it into the beta) I as much as I kinda dislike this game being released early I cant really make a fair intelligent judgement with the system i had. since it was almost unplayable to some degree and would negate even playing it with that system.
I figure I can have a better perspective on what to expect if some points from people currently playing share them with me,but people who arent playing anymore can give their two cents as well, as long as it is kept in a respectable format. thank you for your time and i await your response.

You've got a new rig right? Go spend the 50.00 and sign up for a month of VG and find out for yourself whether you like it or not.
Me, I gave it a go and didn't care for it. So what? My tastes might be wildly different from yours.... so better if you make up you own mind....
Oh well, you're gonna get lots of opinions, both good and bad.... good luck on chosing your next game....

i think its safe to say probably the best bet is to get a buddy key, if i can manage, does anyone have one? heheeh wanna mail it to me via mmorg.com perhaps?? because way its looking purchasing it for $50 is gonna be a roll of the dice, I may like it or I might not. the issues with the bugs, and other performance hitches can really hinder the game and how a person views it. So I might wait for a update or 2 or if I can get a buddy key perhaps I will do that, but I don't know anyone who has this game which kinda sucks. let me know what you can do (nudge nudge)
thanx for your thoughts, more would be welcome if people still wish to express their views. but thanx guys either way. i will be doing some serious debating/thinking right now.

Coming here asking for opinions on whether to play or not? Might as well ask for stock tips too....just about as useful! Positive or negative most post on here (all of MMORPG) are pretty useless. You get people with agendas (ie. I love my game and don't want anyone to leave so I will bash your game in it's forums) or useless information (ie. I played for a whole hour and didn't reach level 50 so this game is junk!) or cheerleaders/"fan boys" (ie. this is the best ever!!! Bugs? None at all...everything is fine.) or those who just have too much time on their hands and seem to post here more than they actual play anything (or even enjoy real life) ....and on and on and on. Personally, I hop on here just to get a good laugh from time to time. Want better (a small bit) information? Go check other forums such as the official "support" forum (and you can see good/bad from people in the game) or other direct game forums (like Tentonhammer ). With that...I am out the door to go enjoy some good dinner with friends. Till next time....
p.s. Playing Vanguard since day 1 and actually enjoying for all it's "issues". They will be corrected in time. Those that are so "earth shattering" to some folks? I think they need to adjust their perspective to what is really important in the world. It's just a game. I will play this one...and I will play many others after it.
I think most of the posting comments in here are for the most part very fair.
I think once you have your new system (Sounds great) try out vanguard for yourself perhaps on a buddy key from one of the current established players and see for yourself.
Personally i played Vanguard in open beta and purchased release boxes for friends and family. I have since cancelled before the first billing cycle and choose to no longer play nor subscribe. But that is for my own reasons and i force them on no other gamer, simply to post them in a review or when asked by others...but i will always say try the product for yourself.
Vanguard is taking alot of stick in the online community for some very solid reasons. It also has a dedicated fan base currently for again some very solid reasons.
Good luck with your new system i hope you enjoy some high end gaming...
Best regards

Cal4596726798672 bugs ok ive played for over a month and have had very few bugs that impacted the game all to much maybe im 1 of the lucky 1s the game is fun and isnt finished but lets not stretch the truth
If you can get hold of a buddy key then go for it.
If not it all comes down to how much 50$ means to you, if you can afford to lose it no problem then i would again say go for it, if not I would wait.
There are many issues with this game but some get them more and some get them less as many of them are technical.
On the other side I do not think we are far from a trial version, couple of months or so would be my guess.
You should know however that overall the game is not as bad as the worst posts in here suggests, least not in general.
But neither is at good at some would have you believe.
Frankly I do not believe people who say they have no issues or problems at all as I find that impossible, it would be like driving across europe without seeing another car, possible but unlikely.
Least in game I have not met a single person who has been unaffected.
Your money, your choice.

There are a few bugs, i'm hoping that a lot have been fixed in the new Game Update, as i'm still really enjoying the game. Crafting doesn't seem as grindable as other games, more interactive, but then i've been having too much fun adventuring to really get into it.
Graphics & sound are good, quests are good too..
I'm only a low level Diplomat, but what i've played so far has been fun, diplomacy is more of a card game, but there's a lot of content and backstory thrown in. Also, higher levels get a lot of unique items, so if you wanted to be a crafter and a diplomat you could get there and get good stuff without having to adventure...
I have a spare buddy key if you want one..
The Number 1 Reason for the Success of the Internet
If your only problem with the game was your hardware, then you don't have as big of a problem as you think. Despite what people claim, even with a pretty modest machine you can get the game to run well enough to be playable, if not as pretty as it can be.
If your problem was substance or stability, then you're going to have the same problems you had during beta. The major, gamebreaking bugs are still here ( it almost seems like there are more of them ) and the lack of meaningful content still makes this game a yawnfest far too often. And then there are the nerf bats that are being swung around without thought...
The guy that posted the first responce got it spot on. If you got the 50 and are willing to spend it on a months worth of time then give it a shot; it's about the only way you're going to see if you like it or not. You're not running vista with your 8800 wich I think has been one of the biggest problems for 8800 users, and you got the ram as well so I don't see much of a problem if your drivers are all in order. I'm running a 7950 and 2gb of ram and the game runs very well for me. A lot of the hitching goes away after I'm in the game for a bit and on occasion I have to /flush still, seems like to much stuff is being loaded or there is another memory leak somewhere, aside from that last night was the first time I've ever crashed to desktop, but I think it was my rigs insufficient power supply.
I sent him over a buddy key I received a while back, but never got around to using as my old computer wouldn't possibly play Vanguard. My new computer just came in today and it is a beast so I grabbed my own copy of Vanguard, and sent him over the buddy key I never used.
This way he can check it out risk free for 10 days to see if the improvements made so far are up to his standards.

From a hardware perspective the key items are:
Those items will make the game playable. From a playability perspective you must understand that the game is not finished nor will it be anytime soon. All the classes are in overhaul mode and will be tweaked in major ways. Also, even with the best of systems you will crash to desktop, freeze, and generally have poor performance. Also, understand that Vanguard is a very slow leveling, extreme travel time game. It is very much like an updated version of Everquest1.
If you go to Vanguard with those expectations you will probably be able to enjoy it. It is a graphically fantastic looking game with much potential. I don't think anyone knows how the game will turn out yet. It is a niche market game that only a fraction of the MMORPG population will enjoy. At least it is in it's current state. However, as I said it is at least a year away from being what most would consider ready for release so the game may take many directions of the next year.
actually guys I was in manhattan saw a bestbuy, and took the plunge. Got it and installing it. Figure what could it hurt, yeah its $50 but you never know til you try. Every MMo has some form of growing pains to some extent, merely the nature of the beast. So im gonna see how it goes, give SIgil the benefit of the doubt and go at it with a open mind and not be judgmental about it. thanx for the info,
well Im gonna go finish installing and decide who Im gonna be. kinda have my sights set on being a orc warrior :P hehehe. I was a Kerra Paladin in EQ2, and half Half-elves for rangers, healers, and conjurors, time for a change.
I appreciate your candid honesty, and thanx for not sugarcoating the issue for me. If anyone wants a Buddy key I have one from my Cd so its up for grabs if anyone needs it, figure I might as well pass it forward so to speak. and yeah alyndale i wont be needing your buddy key but thanx for the look out truly stellar of you. I would figure its still good considering they are good til they are used and tied to an account. figure I might give it to my nephew as he was interested in the game and has a roughly comparable system to mine expcet he has a crappy onboard nvidia 6100 LE lol(bestbuy compudder! dont ask lol) but gonna help him upgrade get him a nice 8800GTS for his graduation gift. or perhaps you can give it to someone maybe they'll ask for it, if they want to use it :P
well Im out cya later, ill let you know how it goes. I will give my in game name and server later if anyone wants to help me get my feet wet in the game.

Kyleran is basically right. Most games you just have to try them out. The only thing you want to search these forums for is the basic concept of the game and some of the mechanics.
List want you like you game to have. See if Vanguard has what your looking.
Ex. You like PVP. Don't go by opinions on how the PVP works. Just know that its avaialble and you will have to try it out for yourself.
Ex. You like crafting. Do you like complex or simple crafting? Vanguard's crafting is complicated and deep, do you like involved crafting? If so then you might want to continue on to try the game.
I dont recommend spending $50 just to try the game out. If you like a few aspects the game offers, then you decide to buy it. Simple as that. Thats how I choose most of the time. The other thing I try to do is get buddy keys or into BETAs.
But things like bugs and broken quests etc. Very hard to decide on a game based on some people's experiences. Some people have no problems, other do.
One more example. Recommended specs. Does your machine have what they recommend for the game? If not , you might want to pass.
Think about games that way, stay away from reviews that are far left or far right.
Hope this helps.
By the way, I Beta Tested Vanguard and didnt like it. However, I choose sign up for the BETA based on what the game offered. I liked many of its concepts. I got lucky with the BETA and didnt have to spend $50. Sometimes you just get screwed and end up having to waste money in order to find you don't like the game. But MMORPGS are long term games so its not too bad if you stop after a month.
Well, I played 4 levels already as my orc warrior and i must say I am liking what I am seeing and doing. Music is absolutely phenomonal, vey enthralling, deep, melodic lot of drums, rich string sections giving the sense of impending battle in the thestra. wide varied environmental ambient sounds give to a realistic immersion from a audio perspective. the combat animations are a bit lacking but I am sure that wil improve, the quests so far are pretty good, and continue to gain momentum and I find some of them are pretty enjoyable reads, if you start as a orc you start off on a ship with freeing slaves and moving into the camp to kill surrounding invaders, the quests start off pretty well by getting you into the story of where you are, what is going on, and what your role is.
not a bad start so far. spoke to quite a few people in region and so far the community seems pretty well mannered and mature, very helpful, i had someone pm me cause i had an issue with the chat channel being bugged, he picked up on my repetitive responses as I seen no text from anyone giving me the impression i was alone. also gave me the low down on what the game offers, couple gave me some info on diplomacy, essentially a mini game (think of Magic the gathering as far as the card implemntation when talking to a NPC) they also informed me of other nagging issues I should be aware of given I come across them. but so far no real bugs, very smooth performance minus a few stutters here and there.
graphics, framerates are very stable actually on my system I am doing 1280x1024 High quality with sliders maxxed getting 20-40+fps , clipping pane i kept to around 100k, any further is not needed, where I am now as its merely water, and no real viewable vantage to see off at that type of distance.
i was given heads up that in areas here and there gets bogged down, Im not sweating not gettting constant 60+ fps as its not necessary to enjoy what I am seeing, anything past 30 fps is merely a added plus. only nit pick is there is No EAX 3/4 or OpenAL as it only gives you generic Hardware or softwware, but no biggie the sound is still very good. its still a bit early I got several levels til i get a taste of my first dungeon crawl, i also got my horse shoes to speed up my first mount when I am able to pruchase one. Just working on getting better armor which is supplied by the quests I am doing, then once i get more money get them from the vendors.
So far i am optimstic about my experience, its not as bad as people say, yea there is nagging annoying issues, but haven't come across them as of yet, minus that chat channel bug which is easily overcome. I am sure over the next couple weeks some of these glaring issues will be dealt with.
thanx for the info gusy, I appreciate everything. throw me a mail if one of you wants a buddy key. if your interested and not willing to pay $50 like i did but still want to give it a go. oh yeah my name is Khranos Lazarith on the for Florendyl RP server so if your on, got a good guild that i can join, or wanna hang out and group give me a pm :P

So, as you saw it is best to try it yourself (if the $50 is not an issue, and it was not for me). They say you can't believe most hype, and that's true... but I'm not sure you can believe most of the flames either. Some of the things I have seen on here have just been hilarious (in that they are either completely untrue or so subjective they may as well be).
C
yeah id tend to agree with that.
here is what my game looks like. its running at 1600x1200 maxxed on high quality with all sliders maxxed. getting 20-35+ fps but maintains upper 20's and mid 30's for the most part, andupwards of 40+ at times. more than playable.
dont mind the fact its 800x600 photobucket does that if it exceeds 800x600.
