All right!  Gotta figure out another excuse to get the Wife and kids to go another weekend without me however.  Cheers to Sigil.

And where is this posted at?  The game is so bad at times that triple xp wouldn't draw anyone in.

    Right there, it is true.

Wow, this is getting to be a farce. Why don't they just have permanent double experience?

Edit: I bet you Brad is crying himself to sleep at night, as he watches his hardcore dream get smashed by double experience weekends this early and this often.

Too bad I feel no pity. One reaps what one sows.

I think I would like to take a second to make a personal attack. . .

Not knowing where to find the news for the game is a sure sign that your own excrement is worth more than your smart ass comments and opinion.

They gotta figure out some way to stress test this beta games first big patch right lol?

Only dieing games do this to get ppl to play. I have never seen a single MMO do this unless it was after the first year, for instance DDO did it on the one year aniversery as a reward to the vets.

The 30 days free play is up and the unsub button melted off the website, they are crapping them selves and will do anything.

Ha, if every post on MMORPG.com contained only facts, this site would be quite bland.

Besides, how should one obtain facts on this phenomenon?  Do you think Sigil is going to come out and say, 'Yeah, guys, we are doing this because subscription numbers have not met expectations and are slipping.'

    No way!

Therefore, give the the theories whatever sort of merit you feel they deserve, but stifling them entirely is ridiculous. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and if someone feels these weekends are Sigil's way of holding on to subscribers, I think that is fair. It is certainly not outside the realm of possibility.

Well, regardless of Sigil's intent, my old guildmates are thrilled to see another double xp weekend.

If it helps retain subscribers....more the better.....

It's probably time to just let the people who are enjoying VG alone...... they've made their choice and are happy with it....

I agree, and looks like so do a lot of other VG players.  At the same time, lots of players are thrilled about it.  The thing is, if it were permenant, they'd just get used to it, and it wouldn't improve anything, only drive away players that like it slower paced.

That's why I suggested one day a week being a double xp day.  Seems to me that'd be good for all sides, although of course some hate the idea of any double xp ever.. I don't think they're thinking in terms of what's good for the game, though.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

I think we can all see the player base fading away, so they have to do something.  I would have suggested actually fixing some of the bugs.. but more double xp will work for now.

The only fact that can possibly be agreed upon here is that there are no facts and that there is

little else on this website but conspiracy theories and boldface lies.

Yesterday when it was claimed that the update was buggy, it was also proclaimed as a

conspiracy theory -- until the patch was patched.

I don't see the player base fading away; so right there you're comment is false, and a false comment if made intentionally can be construde as a LIE.

I think that some of the resent server downtime and xp loss bugs may be behind the double xp weekends.  Regardless I didn't get to play much last weekend so if they are doing it again I'm all for it.

    Edit: just checked VG's site.

"hardcore" is not equal to "time"... at least it should not be.  In my opinion the double XP should stay.  The people who play these game 24 hours/day will always get to the end quickly.  For me it is perfect.

This is not a gift of XP.  You still need to use your skills to level up and defeat the same MOBs.  It just takes away some of the unneeded tedium to do so.  Plus it bring out the masses for grouping options.

I would love to see every weekend be a double XP weekend.  I just have to wonder how many people who are 30+ with families and jobs are crying about how fast the game moves...  maybe they are out there, but personally I don't mind a 1 hour gaming session where I actually see my bar move more than 5%.

I play on the FFA server so maybe I don't notice many of the bugs others are seeing (my main focus is the group of people tryin to kill me).  Right now the only real issues I see are class balance and such... and any game like this will have those issues for many, many months to come... even games designed for PVP (which this one obviously was not).

If they standardize double XP, I might consider coming back after all of the bugs are fixed and the animations are finished.

They obviously need to double the XP permanently because the game is a grind.

Don't confuse difficulty with making it harder to level and thus having to go through dull, repetitive, boring grinding.

Difficulty is NOT making it harder to level and more frustrating to play. Frustration and Difficulty are two completely different things that the "hardcore" MMO community cannot grasp.

Hey, hey come on now, I'm 30.  Ok, I don't have a familly of my own yet, and I've been out of work a couple days due to an accident...what was my point?

If I could live with the progression of Lineage 2 before they made it easier I can deal with VG.  This game moves along MUCH faster then some games out there, and I really don't understand why people complain about how long it takes to lvl.

Yeah, but the main reason I suggest a day, rather than a whole weekend, is that I think a weekend is a bit much.  It'd drastically increase overall level rates, whereas a single day might have a more minimal effect on level rates overall, while still giving less hardcore players time to feel more tangible progress.

Jesus Christ, another 2x xp weekend LOL, aint gonna bring me back to paying for a month though, the game is just not worth it right now. Also 2 double xp weekends running and the game has just come out, to me, just shows that they are really desperate to try and entice players to pay for another month, which also obviosly opens up and states that many players have indeed cancelled their accounts.

Pity though as they think get as much money in by as many mugs as you can and we will try to keep them enticed into the game, as if double xp is gonna do that to many gamers, only the fools who have money to throw away.

Of course you could also go as far as thinking hey, maybe they want players to lvl up fast so you can find the 1000's of other bugs as you level up, oh wait that is really testing the gameplay and mechanics, so why we paying for it?? because they think us the gamers are idiots and fools and easily taken for a ride.

When are you people going to learn how to connect point A to point B?

Right after the patch was released there was numerous things that didn't make it in the update (no weapon textures etc.) aswell as various other bugs.

This resulted in an immediate server shutdown to fix and restart the servers, which was of course un-announced.
This meant hours of lost playtime for paying customers and since they can't add more hours to a day the easiest and soundest course of action is a weekend of double xp to make up for lost playtime.

And no, changing the SoE accounts for every VG player out there to get 12 hours extra in the end of the month is practically impossible.

Theres your mystery of the double xp weekend. It doesn't need to mean they haven't got enough subscribers at all.
  • smg77smg77 Member Posts: 672
Ah yes...the good old double xp weekend. This is right out of SOE's playbook.

I remember when they used to give SWG double xp weekends to stem the tide of people fleeing that game. It didn't work there and it won't work in vanguard.

LAWL!  12 hrs of down time to fix the game is not worth equivalent to a weekend of 2x XP.   I have played other games where they had to shut down for hotfixes for extended periods of time and they do not compensate with double xp, they compensate with added time. true story

The diminishing player base is a good call for the double weekend xp ploy.

I do enjoy  a good double xp ploy.
