Anyone Know on how the combat system works at all. From the videos I've seen, it looks like it could possible be click and slash free movement play. kinda like a 3rd person shooter. I'm hoping its not that way, but just want to put my mind at rest.
Yes it is real time fighting, not turned based. Melee is third person, have to aim all of your attacks. Your character is in first person while shooting arrows and using magic, you also have to aim for those attacks.

the combat is similar to the unfinished (and probably never will be) Mount and Blade which you can download and play the first few levels for free (or buy and download a bunch of updates and remove the level restrictions)
because you have to aim and manouver, the combat requires a lot more skill than traditional MMORPGs where the target is locked and all you do is hit buttons to decide on the attack you want and wait for timers

Have you tryed a combat system as in WoW?, there we can talk about a flawed system. You cant even aim and hit things far away with melee weapon, thats strange stuff
first off, I don't play wow. And your right WoWs combat system is terrible. I'm just not pleased with Free roam Hack ans slash Game play. I'll try out the game and see whats its like, perhaps they perfected it..idk, But even tho it might take "skill" to aim your swing and block and stuff any lucky noob can run around in circles randomly swinging a sword. Seem it would be based on luck.

Also to add. I very interested on this No Class/Lvling system. I personaly think that mmos shouldn't be about lvln for its gameplay and be more about what to do when you hit that max lvl.
But from what people describe it sounds as if DF has no structure. I think this might make pvp bland and undiverse. Sure I agree its a neat concept and I hope it works, cause I really want a good pvp mmo. Alot of stucture and restrictions is Bad, But no stucture is worse imo.

The offical site even says that PvP isn't the main foucs of this game, so I'm not sure how ppl can be calling it the King of PvP in the MMORPG world. Its not even out yet, I'd wait till its out to give it such praise. Not the first game that I've seen that was supose to be all that in pvp and turned up being pretty bad.
The king of PvP in DF is not from the combat system, its from the thing with full loot and no safe zones

And the thing with a noob running around and cutting and hoping for luck..that wont win any wars in DF.
Think DF as a War PvP MMO...you will neede more then a noob with a sword. You have to be a great commander and knowing how to make money to be able to afford your war. The combat features also makes social skills importand and makes RP to something more natural....LOL
What ever bud, Hope this games good, but it will have to actualy come out for that to be decieded. If it dose come out I think it may disapoint alot of people, and from how its described it sound like Hack&Slash/Fps/Zerg/RP game with ships, Good luck to your dream tho

Theres lots of mmos that don't allow Attack and move gameplay. In Darkfall from what it's described as, unlike other MMO's you actually Haft to Block, as in click and rasie your shield. Players will just run around to points where its unblockable (unless the defender just spins around in circles holdin his shield up) and swing their weapons. Also all it seems it would take is 2 ppl to basicaly mess up someone....just haft to be on oppsite sides of their target. There will be ppl that will play the game how its ment to be played , and will aim and strike and stuff, but sooner or later they will get pked by ppl that just runs around and slashing and the guy that tries to play the game "right" gets mad sends hate tells and such. It might take awhile but eventauly he'll start doing the same thing running around hacking and slashing becuase hes sick of dieing to it, and a chain reaction will happen and the entire games a zerg fest of hacking and slashing. I hope I'm wrong tho
as from what it sounds like darkfall requires fps twitch gaming skills. A game where all it takes it numbers and running around and clicking really fast. I don't know if new gamers can grip this , but some mmo used group tatic , prepration, Technic, player style, and timing to pvp , I'm not talkn about games like WoW btw. Maybe DF has some crazy prefected scheme of Hack and Slash well haft to wait and see. I'm sure this game will be fun, but idk have some doubts on how good its going to be...
I don't see how people are going to spin around you. It doesn't happen in FPS games, and you can't run through people in darkfall, so spinning would be almost useless because your character should be able to turn faster than you opponent can run a circle. Not to mention they would have to be strafing in circles (which I hope is slower than running), and from what I recall there is stamina in the game, so running around swinging like a mad man will get you tired faster than be a little more calculated with your efforts. Play mount and blade, hopefully darkfall will play similar to that (the devs said it would be somewhat similar). In mount and blade there isn't any circle strafing mindless hack and slash fighting.
Oh and getting attacked by two people should be a disadvantage, but remember there is friendly fire, and they can't surrounded you if you back up. So them mindlessly slashing away, while you move around a little probably will cause them to hit eachother.

I think you are right in one vs one combat, but i also hope we will see formations for the first time in a MMO....formations that really means something for the outcome in the battle.
I will try to learn to use real group combat in DF, i know it will be really hard. To take high personal skill and replace it with a low team skill....i dont think many players can endure that in a MMO Every one want s to be the best from day one.

dont fear stupid people that just gank all day because if u just going around trying to kill anything that walks eventually anything that walks is gonna wanna kill u. The game has a really smart system that allows PvP freedom but at the same time everything you kill has a major consequence... if you kill everyone, ur screwed... ur a complete loner... and u might think u can have fun, but soon ur just gonna hate it, make a new character and follow ur faction and stay with people that will watch ur back.. the PvP system is great...
I also like the absolute 100% PvP freedom... no matter what or who it is... it can be ur own king... u can just walk up and attack.. if u kill him or not, ur done with that faction.. so kill smart...

Having Major Consequences towards PvP dosen't seem like it would make things 100% PvP Freedom. Seems like restriction. What are these consequences, any one have a clue? I could understand some things that come from pking ppl, But they plan to have punishments towards pking that make it unplayable to players..hmm...What if its a large group of people start ganking people? I think DF sounds good on paper, but when the Genreal Public get its hands on it its going to crash and burn. But I'm just imaging the worst, actually some times Chaos is fun. Just sick of talkin about this game, wish I could just play it, but who knows when thats going to happen

but in a tight nutshell...
PKing players of the same race, or one of the aligned races means you will take an alignment hit
there is no alignment hits for PKing races that is not aligned to your race
you can PK same or aligned race without an alignment hit if your clan has declared war on that clan
if your alignment has taken a significant hit, npc guards will KOS (kill on sight) you in towns normally freindly to you
you can improve your alignment by killing mobs particularly evil to your race, or by killing enemy races
the alignment system is to prevent repeated mindless ganking of noobs in beginner towns without consequence - which would massively limit its appeal to many players

y'know... that same list has been around since before UO, and no one has ever figured out how to make it actually WORK in-game. Looks good in a list, but hard core PvP'rs don't play lists.
The ShadowBane guys bragged that they had this ALLLL figured out, because they were all uber mastah killahs themselves who knew how to prevent exploits and griefing and balance everything out.
Ya right. Guess what. SB devolved into a boring mindless gankfest just like every other game that's tried Unlimited PvP.
They failed, becasue they didn't understand the human nature of PvP players.
