Sorry for your poor experience with Vanguard.
I unfortunately have no key to provide you but i would like to welcome you too the LOTRO community and hope you find enjoyment in Lord of the Rings Online.
If you are European visit www.computerandvideogames.com as they give away Beta keys on a Friday. And they are this friday i believe.
If you are based in the US then i believe you can get keys inside the computer and video games magazine and also on Gamespot.
I hope you enjoy the game. I left vanguard earlier this month but i must say i am now really enjoying Lord of the rings. Good luck with the key and i hope you get to try and make your own opinions of the game.

Aye i also left Vanguard too, found it was a huge and very big dissapointment for a game that was boasting about being the best and teh 3rd generation of mmorpg's having learnt from the 1st generations good and bad points (ultima online/everquest/asharons call) and the 2nd generation (Horizons, Everquest 2, World of warcraft).
I expected more than a half finished and extreamly buggy release (that i would have not even called Beta) let alone a release, as i have stated on the games forum and on every bug report i sent in that i bought the game but did not expect to be paying for a less than Beta game (Alpha) as i have tested quite a few beta's that didnt have half as many problems. I did cancel my account but maybe in a years time this game may have improved enough to go back and take a second look. Right now i wouldnt even bother with it, for those who are thinking about it i would at least hold off for 2-3 months, for those that are not interested and would rather go ahead, all i can say is good luck to you, but please take note that you have been warned about the game's current state. Finally for those who listen and know due to experiances it would be worth taking another look at the game in about 10-12mths time (if the game has survived that long). As it did have some very good idea's brought into the genre, but very badly implemented. It also has to be the worse mmorpg release i have encountered out of all the ones i have played both closed/open beta and retail. I also fully agree with the 3 review marks i had seen 3/10 4/10 and 4.5/10 and i would rate it myself and also not being as generous as a 2/10.
I am now lookign at Lotro (i have heard mixed feelings about the game) but i doubt things can be as bad. ok there is no PvP, can live with that if teh game is good enough, and who knows, later on in the game's life, things could change on this aspect.
I too am trying to get a beta key pass, so i am hoping to get a first hand look at the game myself, but you also must remember it isnt just about getting a free ride, you get something out of it, but they expect you to report (in detail) and bugs found and possibly anything that could improve the gameplay too.
Vanguard is a good game, Lord of rings is a completely ripped off version of Wow.
People who have played Wow should know this. I could list all of them but that would take a long time. Go do an analysis of features by features between Lord of rings online and wow, you'll know what i am talking about.
At least vanguard doesnt copy 90% of features from wow, unlike Lord of rings. Yes slapping on lord of rings skin oh yea turbine nice try.
The only innovative about this turd is the mpvp and character traits.
And vanguard is not as easy to level as lord of rings online, its challenging. This crap so called Lord of rings online offers extremely easy to level. I nfact i soloed a ministrel to level 18 in under 12 hours of gameplay SOLOING!!! lol whoever heard of a healer with easy soloing option as lord of rings online. And they dare offer $199 for lifetime membership, what a crock. Vanguard is way better then lord of rings online.

hm and here I thought that WOW was a copy of previous mmos heh
also I'm sure the Turbine never said that LotRo is going to be REVOLUTIONARY, INNOVATIVE or NEXT GEN mmo, but a SOLID and GOOD game
take your innovative VG... guess the big hype bubble was blown away by incapability of developers, that's just really sad, I feel sorry for them, but it's a good lesson for every other developer team
but remember what the Ninja Turtles always say: "THE BIGGER THEY ARE, THE HARDER THEY FALL"
on one side we have super innovative released VG with more bugs than any other mmo in beta state and on the other side, we have not so innovative, but fun to play and polished lotro already prepared for launch in it's beta state without any major bugs
if you don't like lotr, get back to VG and pay for beta testing... you know, beta tests are either FREE or the publisher is paying YOU to beta test it, but paying to play a beta is just ridiculous
so good luck in VG mate, I'm sure that if you like paying for beta with hell lot of bugs, lotro is not for you, it's for us, who want to have fun playing mmo and not to be frustrated all the time, I myself am not a masochist :P

I have played WoW for over 1,5 years.
LOTRO is not a wow-ripoff, it's a generic western MMORPG.
Wow is also not an EQ-ripoff, but we could easily say that...:)

I only played Vanguard during a 10 day trial so I can't really say too much but in my mind both the combat system and the skill system are a carbon copies of WoW. Vanguard seems to have a lot of nice features but I never really got to see that much of it. I might try it out again in a couple of months but for now it's too unfinished.
Regarding the fast leveling in LOTRO I seem to remember reading that Turbine increased xp gain during beta so that people could test the higher level content.

well just speaking for myself the last patch pretty much gave me a swift kick in the sack, they pretty much shot the casual gamer friendly atmosphere all to hell in my opinion, the game has really turned into a major grind for my characters around level 10. DAmn near as bad as Vanguard as far as I can tell

Why? What did they change?
I only started playing last weekend, and my toon was lvl 6 by wednesday.. what was the change that made LOTR less casual-frienldy?
(fyi I am a typical casual player, and at the moment lotro is very very very easy and casual friendly to me... that's why I'm surprised

Bah. It all boils down to taste.
VG is the huge sandbox that gives the player an opportunity to do lots of things. If you are looking for a game with an overall objective, there is none. You ultimate goal is level up, improve your character via gear. Good times can be found with groups or solo, just don't expect to be spoon fed the experience. New feature of the Diplomacy Card game may pique your interest, but I ended up grinding in this as well. If you havent experienced a vast world, thousands of people playing at once and getting involved with a guild or group, forming online friendships, VG is there to serve.
Just like most MMOs today.
LORTO seems to be geared for the more casual player. It is more immersive by nature of its cut scenes and the storyline. It seems to have less content than VG. Good for casuals because you can experience the LORTO world is less time. Not so good for hardcore players because you will consume this games content quicker than a subscription fee may justify. If you like the Lord of the Rings stuff, you will no doubt enjoy this game. As far as a MMORPG, it won't be the best, but it won't be the worst.

I'm not really sure what you are speaking about, Jackdog. I was able to take my Minstrel from level 13 to 14 (started at 12.9 or so) in about 45 mins of questing last night. I've not seen much change in exp rates.
There were a few people on /ooc complaining that levelling had become harder but, when pressed with questions, at least two of them admitted that they were grinding mobs in the same place in order to gain experience. This is a bit of a dated concept in my opinion. If you (or anyone else reading this) are one of those xp grinders then drop the blinders and explore the world a bit.
Incidentally, I've left VG for LOTRO. I am a casual player with a life. I play games for fun and just wasn't having much fun in VG (bugs aside...the gameplay and community were boring and rude respectively). I do have to say one thing - the first time I booted up VG and looked at the UI and world around me, I thought "hey, this looks just like WoW". I suppose you could say the same thing about most MMOs on the market today, though. I'm sure someone who first loaded up WoW a couple 'o years ago said "hey, this looks just like xxxx".
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7

DAmned if I know. I leveld a minstrel from 1 to 8 before the servers shut down for the hotfix and was wiping the floor with level 10 orange mobs at level 7. Yet my level 13 mnstrel that I made pre patch is getting a can of whup ass opened on him with yellows and he has good gear on.... ponder....... I will find out what is going on before the end of the weekend, that I promise.

Yes, it is geared to the more casual gamer. But to say it has less content than VG is an outright fabrication. The game has over 1500 quests! This includes epic quests.
As for hardcore players, you have players in VG getting to 50lvl in one month's time. So I guess the monthly fee isn't justified in VG either? The fact is you can't design a game around hardcore gamers because they are anomolies, and are money losers for the company. No company has yet been able to provide enough content for these basement dwellers.

Vanguard isn't challenging it's just boring and reeeeeeeeeeepititious.
Anyway we feel your pain. If I was as commited to Vanguard as you are I'd also share your reaction. It's sometimes hard to admit when something you had such hope for turns out to be such an utter failure. But, don't say there wasn't plenty of warning. The writing was on the wall well before Vanguard was released.
As for LOTRO it's an utterly fantastic game that finally brings the fun back to MMO without inflicting the tedium of a certain other game.

exactly.... move along nothing to see here....
Well, I don;t fit that mold at all.
I was stoked for VG and went in head first and enthusiastic. What a major let down! Horrible experience. Played the full month and everyday got worse for me. The condition the game is in is completely unacceptable to me. Unfinished is one thing, this is something totally different.
I went into LotRO expecting it to be "so-so" and was blown away right from the get-go! Completely night and day experience from VG to this. LotRO is smooth on ultra high graphics, the gameworld is breathtaking and alive, i have been playing as much as i can and have hit no bugs, just having a ton of fun every single night.
^ That's almost 2 months before release.
WHAT? Questioning my judgement in this matter???

Why can't some of you people accept thas there are those of us that are actually having fun in Vanguard? I don't complain if anyone has fun playing WoW or any other game. You sound like the only way someone can have fun is the way you intend fun to be. I am all for different types of MMOs then we can all choose one and have fun where we like to.
Sure go ahead and bash all MMOs you like, just do it with constructive arguments and don't bash other people just because they think something is fun that you don't happen to like!
