I was more than happy when i saw something eluding to NM's i am very familiar with. Before i even finished reading it ,i figured it had to be related to the RMT activities on these NM.Yep i was right, the problem i have ,is wondering why they only went halfway with there fix?
Anyone that has been around as long as i have ,knows all to well, the RMT laugh in the face of SQUENIX,by setting up shop on these nm's 24/7.They went half way by inserting a CHANCE the drop MAY be a rare/ex version?wtf is up with that?99% of the time they are botting anyhow, with a built in alarm proggy that warns them on /tells and when the NM appears. So this won't deter them whatsoever from contuing to setup shop here. All it does is lessen there income by allowing fewer sellable drops. There not going to leave because of this, grrr fix this blemish on the game properly!MAke them ALL rare/ex.
It's been 4 years of squenix banning 3 rmt botters from these NM ,then the very next day 3 new RMT will showup and continue on like nothing ever happened.Very poor management on trying to clean this game up.
On a sidenote ,im glad they could add even more mobs to the beseiged ,since we dont have enough lag in there already? The whole beseiged setup is a joke as i would bet 75% of the players are only there to get skillups and free xp.They really couldn't care less about the idea. That is another beef of mine to.The setup allows say a level 50 mage to get great skillups ,whereas there is no way in hell a 50 melee would get any .I think they really are blind as to there beseiged, and why players are actually in there.Take away the XP and skillups, and see if many join in for the FUN of it?
On a very good note,i am happy to see the DRK got it's long over due reward. This class is argueably the most ignored job in the whole game.I tend to argue ranger is the most nerfed, but that's another story.Rejoice goes out to all DRK,hmm i dont play that job,but still happy to see it got recognition.

lol RMT will always be in online games, you cant completely get rid of them... they're like a bad case of herpes <.< but im glad to see SE is trying, if they made all NM drops in the game Rare/EX <.< well there would be very little way to make gil, so they are trying to get rid of RMT while still maintaining a decent economy.
Also <.< DRK being the most ignored job? have you tried being a DRG? ;-; lol at least DRK gets good gear. >.> DRK is one of the best DD in the game. They need to be gimped!! Give DRG's a little love here SE!!
Wizardry, you are missing something important:
More of the drops from NMs will now become Rare/Ex, and as you know, those can't be sold or traded. It WILL take care of RMT problems if all good NM drops gets Rare/Ex, and if SE fix a few other issues. But SE are playing us for fools, they do not handle RMTs as seriously as they claim.
I'm surprised SE didn't make more NM drops Rare/Ex much earlier. If my mind ain't playing tricks, i think they did this with the Empress band a year back or so, so the only bands in circulation, are those ppl got before that happened.
;-; yeah, I love DRG, and, not to brag, but I do a darn good job at it >.> Out damage most wars my lvl and some DRKs, even with the crappy gear i get ^-^ *proud* lol but yeah, for the most part, most DRGs are seen as useless, since, in general, they cant whip out as much DMG as a MNK or SAM. But still, I stick by my DRG all the way no matter what ne one says, they are just jealous... >.> and hell, my wyvern can dance now! ^-^ that will keep me entertained for hours while LFP XD ^^b.
What they did with Valkurm Emperor, Leaping Lizzy and the other most highly camped/monopolized NMs is this...
They changed the NM's drop to a rare/ex (no trade, no sell) version of the item and actually renamed it. For example, the Valkurm Emperor now drops the Empress Hairpin which, again, is "no trade/no sell" (in WoW terms "bind on pickup"). It still won't drop 100% of the time - it never did. But the one it drops is always rare/ex.
They then made the original Emperor Hairpin that VE *used* to drop a reward for a BCNM (Burning Circle Notorious Monster), and like before it can be traded and sold freely. Again, there is not a 100% drop rate on this version, but it is always the "sellable/tradeable" version.
So, now there's no point in RMT/botters/farmers monopolizing those drops because they can't do anything with them but throw them away. However, *anyone* with enough beastmen seals can enter the BCNM fight and still have the chance to get the original sellable/tradeable version. Since BCNMs are instanced, and can be entered by anyone who meets the requirements, they cannot be monopolized anymore.
As for them banning 2 or 3... well, maybe in individual cases. On the whole, SE puts out an update every month of their banning results for the previous month... usually numbering in 10s of thousands of accounts and 10s of *billions* of gil removed from the economy. They have a focused task force that does nothing but work on ways to better deal with the botters/rmt'ers and keep on top of them.
Will there always be botters? Of course. For now, they've taken to creating level 1 toons, bringing them out to the Dunes or other places and fishing non-stop. SE has acknowledged this behavior and is making steps to deal with that, too.
Botters will never be gone completely; they'll always find some new way to get their gil to sell... But SE is taking it seriously and is making the most up-front and persistent effort of dealing with them in FFXI of any other MMORPG I've played.
and the cash shop selling asphalt..." - Mimzel on F2P/Cash Shops
WSIMike, it could be interesting to know which other MMORPGs you have played since you say "SE is taking it seriously and is making the most up-front and persistent effort of dealing with them in FFXI of any other MMORPG I've played".
Last summer there was a bot on Fenrir, in Giddeus, who was always camping Hoo Mjuu The Torrent (a low lvl NM). I don't remember he's name, but it was somehting with Angel. Several players reported this. In the FEW cases SE cared to answer, they were nagging about proof etc. It took a few months before it was gone.
To compare: I have twice reported a bot in WoW. In BOTH cases they were gone in less than an hour.
A linkshell buddy said something like this about the new "task force" in FFXI: "Same crap, new package". I have to agree...
You also say "SE puts out an update every month of their banning results for the previous month... usually numbering in 10s of thousands of accounts". Care to prove it? I checked the EU playonline site now, but last info about them banning accounts is gone now. What I am 100% sure of, is that SE does not put out any update every month, and I've never seen 10s thousands being banned. I might remember wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the highest numer for the last 10-15 months, is 7000.
Still in a way botters will be in most MMO's since the system itself allows it.
In my opinion as long as you have to grind for money and not gain them through quests or missions or such i think they will never really leave just adapt to the new situations.
As for the DRK well he will still miss as hell so everything they give for him it's good

Yes i agree on DRG also, another job i have never even unlocked,as a matter of fact the only job lol. They get jump... umm later umm jump , wait its gets better...JUMP!Ya they deffinately should give DRG a few more exciting abilities. It's a tough call on wich is better for DD,but no question DRK brings more to the table than a DRG.I think there mindset was DRG was going to be a solo job as is BST and SMN.For the sake of it though ,yes i agree they both need a little more loving, and i dont play either job so you know i mean it lol.
About the valk emp and lizzy an stuff,i wasn't talking about them at all.I was eluding to the present day RMT camps that squenix made there fix for.Example moo deggi in oztroja for one. They didnt do like lizzy and emp and make them all out rare/ex drops, instead they made mobs like deggi a CHANCE at being a rare/ex.Fewer sellable=higher prices, this was suppose to help?hmm ,I wish they would actually communicate with the public as to why they made there decisions.
Yes other players brought to my attention that ,making all drops rare/ex would make it hard to make gil.I will agree that making gil in this game is ridiculously hard, however to offset this all they have to do is make the same drops earnable in BCNM's and such. They already did this with the aforementioned emp/boots and charm. That was IMO the perfect solution, they should have continued to follow this same path and i would be all comfy cozy like. What this would also do is force players to go out and earn seals if they want these sellable versions. This would in turn create a better player base ,as of right now i see far too many players just standing aound.
congratulations DRK haha....DRG still awaiting there love
