Ok, im a long time GW player so im not what you'll call a true mmo gamer, but from what i've seen so far im not sure the mmo hype lives up to the hype, for me atleast.
I've played WOW for 1 month, GW for 1 year and Vanguard for 3 days
The following thing that made me quit vanguard
1: Graphical performance, my PC isn't a slough but i had to run with everything turned low and music off just to get acceptable FPS
2: Community, spent an hour trying to find a guild and if i asked nooby question most of the time i got smart arssed responses, eg when can i begin crafting, the response was lvl 11
3: Bugs, i really feel i payed to be a beta tester, hard to swim, open doors, silly camera performance when resserected, diplomacy cards not showing up.
4: Sloppy controls, im not sure if ive been spoilt by GW but the movement seems real sloppy its real hard to put my finger on it but i just felt that when i hit my keys the toon on screen didnt' respond as well as in other games
5: Its not a good idea to just dump toons into an area and expect them to go
6: Quests, this really got to me, i know its an mmo thing but collecting 12 legs from this beast then getting told i have to get 6 feet from a different beast is just really boring, for me anyway
7: Game hard: not from what ive seen, ive heard many ppl saying that they dont want the game to be easyer due to double xp days and teleportation, is this a joke, the game isn't hard, its time consuming, theres a difference. There are many who have countless hours and enjoy being noticiably superior to others and thats fine, but it is maddness to make gaming descissions on tha few with detremantal results to the many
8: A game that makes people so angry when a nerf is introduced has a major problem, it shows that a grindy game has just become more grindy, how can that be a good thing
9: Rasses and classes, it really feels like that eash race and class is underbaked, from the char creation point of view there seems to be so few options in hair, faces etc, i know you can edit appearence but there is a limit to tweaking the appearence of the base face and still keeping it looking natural, the result is everyone looks like brothers or sisters, surely it would have been a good idea to half the races and double the time spent in making those remaining toons better.
10: The only reason i kept playing past day 1 was that i thought in a year or 2 this might be a really good game, what a stupid reason for me to play
I know i will be flamed but this is just my experience and impression, hope others find it more enjoyable than me, maybe its not the game, maybe im looking for an mmo that isnt an mmo
the reason i played for 3 days was cos it was amazing and loads to do for 3 days, then you hit repeated quests, the same boring areas and immpossible diplomancy quests and overly dull crafting.
pretty shit game all in all. i was so looking forward to it for months and months as well :-(
I've played WOW for 1 month, GW for 1 year and Vanguard for 3 days
The following thing that made me quit vanguard
1: Graphical performance, my PC isn't a slough but i had to run with everything turned low and music off just to get acceptable FPS
I heard that. I have a Core2Duo 3ghz, 4 GIGs of RAM and a 8800 GTX vcard. I got shitty framerates even at High Quality. Highest Quality it was still at about 12 FPS. This is with a four hundred dollar graphics card, 2 processors, and 4 gigs of ram.
For the quality of the graphics, the FPS doesn't equate whatsoever. I whole heartedly agree with you on that topic.
2: Community, spent an hour trying to find a guild and if i asked nooby question most of the time i got smart arssed responses, eg when can i begin crafting, the response was lvl 11
100% agreed with you here as well. Vanguard has a very immature crowd in some of their servers. Which, for me, was surprising. I had always assumed a hard core MMO would attract mature players...not immature juveniles and adults.
3: Bugs, i really feel i payed to be a beta tester, hard to swim, open doors, silly camera performance when resserected, diplomacy cards not showing up.
We beta testers screamed NOOOO when they said they're going to release it. However, it really isn't that suprising. Many MMOs release a game in shitty states no matter what a beta tester says. Its been like that for seven or so years now. However with Sigil, it was a bit more complicated that that. Sigil spent most of their 25 million dollars by buying all the rights to the game (taking the rights and license away from Microsof. This cost them a ton of money and they needed to release the game or go out of business.
4: Sloppy controls, im not sure if ive been spoilt by GW but the movement seems real sloppy its real hard to put my finger on it but i just felt that when i hit my keys the toon on screen didnt' respond as well as in other games

6: Quests, this really got to me, i know its an mmo thing but collecting 12 legs from this beast then getting told i have to get 6 feet from a different beast is just really boring, for me anyway
Unfortunately, all MMOs suffer from this retardism. I guess there arent any smart developers out there who realizes we hate those quests
7: Game hard: not from what ive seen, ive heard many ppl saying that they dont want the game to be easyer due to double xp days and teleportation, is this a joke, the game isn't hard, its time consuming, theres a difference. 100% agree with you. It isn't hard or hardcore at all. Its tedious as hell. I guess if the guys at Sigil thinks grinding mindlessly is a good idea of what hardcore is, they need to reanalyze this. It feels like they took Raph Koster's philosophy of retaining players in a MMO world (google the Powerpoint presentation) and completely did not get the meaning
8: A game that makes people so angry when a nerf is introduced has a major problem, it shows that a grindy game has just become more grindy, how can that be a good thing
There really isnt a need to get so upset over nerfs. When a company releases a game so horribly undercooked they HAVE to still beta test it despite players paying for it. It's a necessary evil or Brad will end up with a server full of lvl 50 players in about 2 months.
Yup. This is where you can tell when they ran out of money. The character customization is absolutely horrid. Four hair styles for each race and the faces are either the same or grossly disfigured. It wasn't intended to be this way. Brad commented during an earlier interview that Vanguard will be a world where you will not likely see your clone as similiar to City of Heroes. However, that push to leave Microsoft killed them financially and they suffered for it.
10: The only reason i kept playing past day 1 was that i thought in a year or 2 this might be a really good game, what a stupid reason for me to play
For only playing for three days I really hope you had the buddy pass.
I know i will be flamed but this is just my experience and impression, hope others find it more enjoyable than me, maybe its not the game, maybe im looking for an mmo that isnt an mmo
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
i hate seeing these post. how many pepole do you think really care why you stoped playing ?
Because they are frustrated and they need to release their anger. Take a look at the SWG forums. When people feel like they've been "had" they're gonna express their anger on the forums in one way or another.
It's like when you post a thread to defend it you will get an opposite and equal reaction; people will post a thread to bash it. It's just the nature of the beast.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
i hate seeing these post. how many pepole do you think really care why you stoped playing ?
I posted the subject, it wasn't missleading so i suppose you care, your the one who clicked on the topic and took the time to respond, if you didn't care you wouldn't have clicked the post.
And i actually bought the game, didn't know anyone else with it, so i done my cash, i was so exited that i almost bought the collectors edition, thank god i spent the extra cash on beer
I've played WOW for 1 month, GW for 1 year and Vanguard for 3 days

AMD Athlon 64x2 4100+, 2 gb ram, Nvidia 7950. 40-50 fps outside town. 30fps on average inside towns, and 25-30 fps in groups with the occasional jump to the 40-50 range depending on the enviroment. All on high quality with HDR, tone mapping, bloom effect, enviroment distortion (headache) off. And the world shaders set to 80%. Even with the x1300 from ATI I got better then 12 fps with balanced; in fact outside of towns, on balanced I could get 30-40 fps and in town 15-25. That aint bad for that card and the technology that is being used in VG. Don't blame the game because the hardware and software you are using are buggy. The released drivers for the 8800 are known to be a problem, and vista has issues of it's own, and not just with VG. Doesn't a DXdiag show what is running on a system? If so I wouldn't mind seeing what you got under the hood to verify that you do indeed have that hardware.
2: Community, spent an hour trying to find a guild and if i asked nooby question most of the time i got smart arssed responses, eg when can i begin crafting, the response was lvl 11 100% agreed with you here as well. Vanguard has a very immature crowd in some of their servers. Which, for me, was surprising. I had always assumed a hard core MMO would attract mature players...not immature juveniles and adults. I have toons on a FFA and Team PvP server. Tharidon, the FFA server, did have a few buttholes, but over all the people were helpful in chat, and those that I group with were fun to play with. The team server, can't think of the name, has been helpful and mature, and the guild I got in was friendly and consisted of all guys in there mid 20's and cool to associate with.
3: Bugs, i really feel i payed to be a beta tester, hard to swim, open doors, silly camera performance when resserected, diplomacy cards not showing up. Can you link that article or dev. post?
7 or so years? I've been PC gaming for nearly about 20 years and bugs in games were present then.
Can you link the article you're quoting about Sigils having to pay MS for the rights to the game that Sigil owned? I don't recal MS ever having the rights and license.
4: Sloppy controls, im not sure if ive been spoilt by GW but the movement seems real sloppy its real hard to put my finger on it but i just felt that when i hit my keys the toon on screen didnt' respond as well as in other games

6: Quests, this really got to me, i know its an mmo thing but collecting 12 legs from this beast then getting told i have to get 6 feet from a different beast is just really boring, for me anyway Unfortunately, all MMOs suffer from this retardism. I guess there arent any smart developers out there who realizes we hate those quests MMO's are not linear adventures like a single player game. They have to provide hundreds upon hundreds of hours worth of things to keep the player busy. The one tried and true way to do this is through collection quests. VG also has story driven quests that are more linear and plot driven as well.
7: Game hard: not from what ive seen, ive heard many ppl saying that they dont want the game to be easyer due to double xp days and teleportation, is this a joke, the game isn't hard, its time consuming, theres a difference. It has content for casual, core, and hardcore players and I've been reading this in the FaQ on the official site and on forums for over a year now.
8: A game that makes people so angry when a nerf is introduced has a major problem, it shows that a grindy game has just become more grindy, how can that be a good thing There really isnt a need to get so upset over nerfs. When a company releases a game so horribly undercooked they HAVE to still beta test it despite players paying for it. It's a necessary evil or Brad will end up with a server full of lvl 50 players in about 2 months. This is accually counter to what you try to imply earlier. If everyone was able to get to 50 in two months then how much grinding are they really doing?
9: Rasses and classes, it really feels like that eash race and class is underbaked, from the char creation point of view there seems to be so few options in hair, faces etc, i know you can edit appearence but there is a limit to tweaking the appearence of the base face and still keeping it looking natural, the result is everyone looks like brothers or sisters, surely it would have been a good idea to half the races and double the time spent in making those remaining toons better. It wasn't intended to be this way. Brad commented during an earlier interview that Vanguard will be a world where you will not likely see your clone as similiar to City of Heroes. However, that push to leave Microsoft killed them financially and they suffered for it. You're kidding right. Takes a real set to make an assumption like that. So when you say the 4 face options with near unlimited customization is the result of not enough money. You do know that you can adjust every aspect of the appearence of your face right? Granted a couple more hairstyles would be cool, but the sheer amount of customization that can be done in VG is rather impressive; especially when you consider that all of the gear in the game has to be coded so that when it's rendered over your character model it has to fit. CoH doesn't have to worry about changing appearances on the player characters because you can't swap dif. parts of you'r outfit at a whim. CoH characters rarely change cosmetically; the customization is a much biger part of that game, and in the end the only real options are in the costum you wear. You can't change the depth of your brow, the width of your nose, or the size of your hands in COH. You can in VG.

I couldn't flame the OP. It didn't read like he was TRYING to paint the game in a bad light like enigma.
I got the impression that you're not really into the kind of MMO that VG is, maybe even MMO's in general; I know GW is considered one, but it's not a "traditional" MMO. Cool to see you've stuck with GW for a year. I gave it a shot but couldn't really get into it. Felt to closed off and I never really felt like I needed to play with other people. Cool game none the less.
If you haven't checked it out yet, Silk Road is a F2P MMO with some pretty decent graphics, and PvP; it's pretty popullar to boot. Gave it a shot myself but wasn't my cup of tea, not really into martial arts games.
I know this is frustrating but if you do not like the game move on. There are too many other games out there you can try instead of bashing vanguard. I am frustrated with the game right now but the part I like is the fact that you can solo. I am also playing DDO but it is very difficult to solo, but I am not bashing that game. So, I know you are frustrated and if you spent money on this game I am sorry that you lost money. But if you are using a 10 day pass you are not losing anything so give it a breather. Get a 10 day pass for another game and move on.
I thought of a way to flame you Lord. You played GW for a year, you can't complain about the character customization in VG, and you know what I'm talking about.
The whole fluid animations, relevant spell effects with more hair and facial options at creation thing?
Yeah, Vanguard lets you do a lot more at character creation, but it doesn't trump even Guild Wars in every area. Guild Wars stomps Vanguard in the aforementioned areas; all of which are major.
7: Game hard: not from what ive seen, ive heard many ppl saying that they dont want the game to be easyer due to double xp days and teleportation, is this a joke, the game isn't hard, its time consuming, theres a difference. Ok, while I agree with your points throughout your post, and some people are more forgiving of the problems than others, I REALLY have to finally speak up about this one topic. This has been eating at me for several posts, and I normally just laugh them off and ignore it altogether. It's just too common of a complaint to let go.
If you think that tedium and grinding have replaced difficulty, then maybe you should look at your assessment of these words. While you are entitled to your opinion of how you feel about the gameplay, and you are going to expect some type of gameplay from past experiences or what YOU think the just rewards of what you do should be, you have to remember there is more than one way to do things. If the way you are doing something makes you feel like you are grinding and it's tedious, then maybe you're just not good enough to get past the difficulty of it.
Grinding and tedium are the new catch phrases for players that just don't know any better, or probably just shouldn't be playing a higher level of game. Level grinding is a choice. You choose to make yourself level at a certain speed. If that speed is not to your liking then you are either putting too much importance on leveling, or your doing it wrong. If you can't beat the quests, or mobs, that give you enough experience to level at a decent speed, then reassess your playing, not the game. This game slows down the leveling so that people can enjoy each level and the things offered through quests and opportunities at each milestone in the game. If your sole purpose in the game is to get from X level to Y level in a small amount of time, then you're just ignorant of the true nature of the game.
Travel times are WELL within an acceptable amount to be able to get to WHERE YOU NEED TO GO within a decent amount of time. Mobs and quests of the next difficulty, or level, are not very far away from the last mob and quests. I started in the halfling town, did their quests and leveled to a place I could go to the next town, which is around 5 minutes walking to the next town of levels and quests to get to the next place, another 5 minutes, to get to the next place, and so on. Brad just underestimated the stupidity of players that feel they need to go 500 miles on foot every time they want to go somewhere. You even get a horse at level 10 which is WAY before most games start giving you these rewards and it's FREE and EASY to get.
Death is another complaint, that really is a excercise in ignorance. While I agree they are more stringent than other games, they're not that bad. What's really funny is idiots say, "this game is easy, no different than others" and then complain of the death penalty. Well, hey dumby, if it's so easy why are you dying? I played 40 levels of WoW and NEVER died. There are special titles in LOTRO for getting to 10th and 20th without ever dying. Then you guys contradict yourselves and we laugh at your inability to play a simple, easy, button mashing fest of a game, while we have no problems with death penalties, that can be COMPLETELY CIRCUMVENTED BTW. If you don't know how, well there you have it again.
I'm sorry to sound so repetitive as the supposed Vanboi's, another stupid catch phrase, do, but L2P. This game isn't holding your hand, or teaching how to play MMO's. It's for the good players that desire more depth and more difficulty in a genre flooded with Mario Brother type MMO's. Don't get me wrong. I'm really angry that they released this game in the state it's in. I had high hopes for this game, and really want it to succeed. I'm like you in that I don't want to pay for a game that's barely playable, but don't try to make certain aspects of the game trivial just because YOU can't figure them out.
"Granted thinking for yourself could be considered a timesink of shorter or longer duration depending on how smart..or how dumb you are."
I thought of a way to flame you Lord. You played GW for a year, you can't complain about the character customization in VG, and you know what I'm talking about.

Why do you bother to debate with me Sepher.
Guild wars doesn't offer anywere near the customizaton that VG has. You cant dynamically scale evey facet of your character in GW. Being able to select between a dozen preformed faces and hair options is not the same as being able to CREATE your own face.
This agrument that VG doesn't provide any customization is stupid. Not even EQ2 allows you to scale as many features on thier characters as VG does; I think the only game I've played that even comes close is CoH. People are making a big deal about how many faces you can select. It's like they never bothered to accually look under each of the tabs when they were creating thier character to see what you can do. How many dif. faces do they need to give you if you can change the entire shape of your nose, eyes, mouth, chin, cheek, jaw, cranium. brow, ears, etc. etc.
You can change the depth of the brow, the fullnes, its curve, You can change the how tall your character is, the arm to leg ratio, how big your hands and feet are, the size of you shoulders, neck, torso, midsection. legs, arms, the width of your head, fullness of your lips. Do I really have to keep going?
Everytime you post Sepher you show that you have no idea what you're talking about.
Edit: Not to mention, where in what you quoted did it say anything about spell effects and animations. I was making a teasing comment about character custimization. I was having fun WITH the OP. Way to go guy, it's called reading comprehension

Don't be so touchy, you've done nothing but elaborate on the "Vanguard lets you do a lot more at character creation" statement I made. Thanks for that.
We do agree though that Guild Wars has more facial skins and hair options though, correct? Good. I made no opinions as to whether or not more facial skins and hair options were better than the ability to nitpick over anatomical choices. Both are fine features, you like the latter more, I'm sure others like the former more. Too bad Vanguard hasn't combined both.

But Guild Wars still stomps Vanguard in all the areas I mentioned, and the fact remains that Vanguard doesn't trump Guild Wars in every area.

That is funny. You left the part out where I asked you were in my post that you quoted did I say anything about animations and spell effects. Tried to counter my post by making a comment about something that is strictly your opinion and the reason I stuck with the customization issue, wich is what I orininally posted before.
If you're going to quote me I would appreciate it if you wold quote my entire post, and leave the body of text in the sequence that I wrote it.
So? When did I say anything about the animations and spell effects; wich by the way is one of the few things I disliked about GW. The effects are overdone in my opinion and on occasion made it diffecult to follow what was going on when things got crammed up. I didn't like the way every time I shot my bow there was some crazy partical effect associated with it.
GW is also entirely instanced, wich means that they can afford to do more with partical effects without causing any performance issues. When you have 6-8 km worth of terrian to process and render, as apposed to the typical 2k, then you just put that much more of a strain on systems to render dozens of partical effects. Partical effects, by the way, take more processing power to render then a lot of other stuff.
Did you forget the early release thing? How do you know they wont add more spell effects, or improve the existing ones at some point. And the same goes for animations, and hair styles.
I am very well aware you play. Heres a thought for you man. I can't imagine that you continue to pay for something that you dislike, so I have to assume that either you like the game, or you're very confused. If you like the game and want to see it improve, then wouldn't focusing on the good things and encouraging others to play, and thus bringing in more revenue that will ensure that improvements continue to be made; while in a polite, constructive, honest way, suggest to how you feel the game can be improved on one of the affiliated sites. As aposed to continually overexagerating and trashing the game you paying money for?
Edit: And when did I say that VG trumped GW in anyways. I said I played it for a bit and didn't really find it to my liking. But if that's were you want to go. OK.
GW has
No player housing
No mounts
No seemless world
No player boats
No crafting
How exactly can GW trump VG in gameplay aspects that don't exist in the game?
Its common knowledge Sigil ran out of money and they had to release it early. Any Sigil Developer on Silky Venom will tell you that. A simple search on Silky Venom's forum site will give you a wealth of knowledge concerning this topic. Brad himself even mentioned it. Silky Venom is Sigil's little official unofficial webpage. Concerning the link that Sigil had to donate a large majority of their funds to buy out Microsoft is right here and here. Also, a google search will give you more official statments saying Sigil simply ran out of money. I didn't get this from 3rd party information. It came right from the developers' mouth.
4: Sloppy controls, im not sure if ive been spoilt by GW but the movement seems real sloppy its real hard to put my finger on it but i just felt that when i hit my keys the toon on screen didnt' respond as well as in other games
5: Its not a good idea to just dump toons into an area and expect them to go
6: Quests, this really got to me, i know its an mmo thing but collecting 12 legs from this beast then getting told i have to get 6 feet from a different beast is just really boring, for me anyway MMO's are not linear adventures like a single player game. They have to provide hundreds upon hundreds of hours worth of things to keep the player busy. The one tried and true way to do this is through collection quests. VG also has story driven quests that are more linear and plot driven as well. On the contrary, go to spot A and kill 13 beetles and then deliver them to spot B is in itself a linear adventure. To me, anything with a strict lvl system like Vanguard (and MANY other MMOs) is very linear. It's been a long time since I played a non linear MMO. But, to be a jerk I do agree with that hours of hours of something to do ingame lol. Click click click click click click x 24 to the tenth power (I was a crafter). You got that hours and hours of stuff to keep people busy
7: Game hard: not from what ive seen, ive heard many ppl saying that they dont want the game to be easyer due to double xp days and teleportation, is this a joke, the game isn't hard, its time consuming, theres a difference. There are many who have countless hours and enjoy being noticiably superior to others and thats fine, but it is maddness to make gaming descissions on tha few with detremantal results to the many Can you link the article or dev. post were they said that VG would be hardcore? It has content for casual, core, and hardcore players and I've been reading this in the FaQ on the official site and on forums for over a year now. Here and here and here and check out some of the Silky Venom statements.
Everyone isn't able to get to lvl 50 in two months. I was making a generalization of why Sigil would tend to nerf classes. Also, if you don't have a life or a job or a wife and kids to be with anyone can be lvl 50 on two months. Hell.....Vanguard is the biggest damn grind Ive ever seen (like I said earlier in other threads, it makes Lineage 2 look like an easy walk in the park) but if you dont have a life you'll hit lvl 50. Anyone can. Look at polkadots. Poor guy...I feel sorry for him.
Im absolutely not kidding whatsoever. The character customization is absolutely horrid. Ok, let's talk about those little sliders for the mouth, eyes, brows, cheeks, nose, etc. If you position them anywhere that is out of the norm you're gonna end up making your toon go from this to this
If you wanna keep it conservative you're gonna look like everyone else.
10: The only reason i kept playing past day 1 was that i thought in a year or 2 this might be a really good game, what a stupid reason for me to play For only playing for three days I really hope you had the buddy pass.
I know i will be flamed but this is just my experience and impression, hope others find it more enjoyable than me, maybe its not the game, maybe im looking for an mmo that isnt an mmo When did they say they needed to release the game or go out of business? Can you link that article or dev. post?
7 or so years? I've been PC gaming for nearly about 20 years and bugs in games were present then.
Can you link the article you're quoting about Sigils having to pay MS for the rights to the game that Sigil owned? I don't recal MS ever having the rights and license.

No crafting How exactly can GW trump VG in gameplay aspects that don't exist in the game?
V:SoH has
No lightsabers
No Flying Carpets
No spaceships
No Assassins
No Helmets
No Voice Over acting for quests
No JumpGates
No Player Made items in which they can name the product
No Cantinas
No Superhero Spandex character custimization
No Taru Tarus
No vehicles with machine gun mounted pods
No Army men in tanks
No Undead as starter race
My point is this. Just because a MMO does not have something that another MMO has doesn't mean it sucks. Guild Wars is better than Vanguard in many areas regardless of the fact that they do not have what Vanguard has. So what? Just because one MMO doesn't have what another MMO does not means it's a inferior game.
It's game stability, fun factor, financial growth, and player retention is what makes a MMO successful. Not the little "gadjets" they throw in there.
Also...I just gotta say this lol... If you believe Vanguard is a seamless world then I have to disagree with you. They call it chunking. Instead of a black screen with a load up bar, they just pause your game as they send your information from the server back to you. The more RAM you have the faster it is.
World of Warcraft is Seamless. Vanguard isn't.

MMO's are not linear in the the sence that they have a traditional beginning and ending. You create a charcter and you progress them through a world. You spend what the dev. will hope to be hundreds of hours playing the game. You think you can write hundreds of progresive storylines that don't involve a single collection quest? No you couldn't. Like I said, collection quests are the staple of MMO's.
Here and here and here and check out some of the Silky Venom statements. The word is out about Vanguard: it's the hardcore massively multiplayer game that's not for the sissies who'd rather kick back and play World of Warcraft. This is the tough-guy MMO with complicated tactical combat, mandatory group harvesting, extended dialogue trees, grueling corpse retrieval runs, prohibitive death penalties, and metal clamps that send a shock to your nipples when you take damage. At least that's what some of the buzz would have you think about this new massively multiplayer RPG from the guys who created Everquest, the original tough-guy MMO. But the buzz is a bit of a distortion of developer Sigil's approach. Their idea isn't to be prohibitively difficult so much as it is to raise the stakes. This is just the first to paragraphs of the first article you linked. Did you think I wouldn't read it? The article proves you wrong. You still haven't linked a post from a dev. stating that the game is hardcore. Your still lying about this issue. Edit: I'm going to correct myself. The game is geared for casual, core, and harcore players. No dev has ever posted anyting that said the game is geared solely towards hardcore players. Not sure why I'm correcting myself, it's the same thing I posted the first time.

Anyone can. Look at polkadots. Poor guy...I feel sorry for him. No, you are wrong again, and anyone that played L2 when it was released and isn't trying to twist things to look bad will agree. VG has NOTHING on L2 when it comes to grinding; in fact, L2 IS a hardcore MMO. It took a year for the first player to hit the lvl cap at the time in L2. There is NO comparison between the two when it comes to grind. There are VERY few storyline quests in L2. The fact that you would make that statement leads me to believe you never played the game. Ever owned a pet in L2? Ever make it to B grade or A grade? Ever have to grind millions of adena because you broke your weapon trying to overenchant it? You exagerating leveling in VG. I have dozens of quests, all of them unique in story, and I have NEVER had to stay in the same place and grind mobs for hours on end to lvl in VG. I would spend WEEKS in the exact same area killing the exact same mob over and over again in L2. I could run around the execution ground and point out were every mob spawn around the ivory tower is with my eyes closed.

If you wanna keep it conservative you're gonna look like everyone else. I've made something around 15 DIFFERENT charcters. I'll make a toon and then delete them just to create dif. races. I've made 3 wood elves and each one has looked completely dif. even if they had the same hairstyle, wich isn't a problem considering I can't go anywere without seeing guys with exact same haircut I have. I shave my head. You're lying again. The sliders work fine and you can make your character look however you can imagine he would look. I have never run into another toon that had the same facial features as mine, and when it comes down to it, when helmets and hoods are visable, that is going to make the dif. The lvl of customization in VG is one of the best. Review after review and the only thing they site is that there is only 4 face and hair options; most have given credit to Sigil for the rest of the customization options. Again your trying to make things work out to look bad to better suit yourself, and giving factual information.

No m8 no one can ever flame you for being honest and as a mmorpg player reading your post makes allot of sense and fully understandable that mostly because of your low experience in mmorpg's that the game is not for you, I think many people try to convince themselves to be that mmorpg player, I’m glad you did not and was honest about it.
And to comment on your points.
1. playing GW which is a fun game can afcourse not be compared with a huge game like V:SoH so unless you give system specs I can not argue on why it may run not good with your system while its running pretty smooth (not ultra smooth) and yes sometimes little bit of lag but no game stopping lag for me) because you have not shown what system you have other then you saying that you have a nice system.
2. This is only part of the community, I never had any problems ingame at least not with people I spoke, afcourse that is a different story with people that shout or just are playing plain stupid on world chat. If you I had notice your questions I would have reacted and would have responded accordingly, it has to do with many factors, what time did you play, what server and maybe more things that make or break your feeling in a game.
3. It's hard for me to judge, I play it in a way I feel fits MMORPG so I can honestly say I do not notice all of those bugs many people try to speak about, I do notice some bugs, zone-chunk time lost to play maybe 1 or 2 seconds OH now its killing my immersion (lol), Kills spawning abit quicker then I hope for in some places but figured out to find me another location to attack them so that spawns do not instantly come at me right after I kill them just being careful will bring you much further. Swimming, yup bit of a problem, need to adjust camera angle but hey no real need ...yet... to be in the water for a long time, so other that I can not push "numlock" to auto swim to the other side I need to maneuver with me mouse in hope I do not drown, again no big deal, probably will be fixed. Well dis appearing mobs I have not seen them since the first week of release not saying it is not happening anymore, its just not happening to me, oh need to say that I adjusted a few times some of my setting which showed me to be partial fault to dis appearing mobs as some setting where put to high to be able for my system to generate it's character, yup this is a engine problem which should be fixed to maintain stability of the game, but for now dropping a few clicks in my setting still doesn't make the game look ugly its still very nice to look at.
4. Must be a setting thing cause honestly my character move good and really not different then I would see my character move in lets say WOW, GW, EQ1/2 though I must say that when playing GW I get a slight feeling the character is not actually touching ground same I feel in Vanguard it needs to be abit more in touch with the ground, I have to admit that WOW feel of the character walking is better done then V:SoH but this doesn't make WOW a better game then V:Soh for my taste personal at least.
5. its never a good feeling for those that play a character and those skills are changed but lucky enough for those with experience in MMORPG we know it's for the long term and to many people fail to see that and think inside the box instead of out-side the box. Example “Oh noessss they have changed my Disp. now I can not be UBER again really those that think that need to think abit further. No imagine they leave Disp for what it is, now 2 months later new people want to try the game the start with other professions, now maybe these people are interested in pvp so they start pvp'ing now every time they walk up to a Disp they get a beat-up and lose the fight, in time they will think 'fuck this char I’m going Disp" so in the end we going to end up with a game with people playing only the on class and maybe even one race. And about the quest you have done, Well pretty hard to comment on something that is just a basic ingredient for every single MMORPG that has ever been created, fail to see that then really it's time to move to a different type of genre games. I do understand you do not have to like some quest but really it's no difference then what you play in GW when doing quest, I remember to pick up some sort of flowers in GW, didn't bother me, its part of the genre MMORPG.
7. Very true
8. I personal believe it’s the other way around, like I said if people can't accept these types of changes they are in the wrong type games. Give me one MMORPG JUST ONE MMORPG really give it to me that has no patches/fixes/nerves since it has been released, please name me just one MMORPG, oh afcourse one that still is live afcourse, hmm WOW, nope, EQ nope, EQ2 nope, GW nope well I could continue and put the list which is on our right of MMORPG.com but I really do not know one MMORPG that has none of these things, sure maybe some more then others, but failing to accept this in a MMORPG is only showing that people actually do not even really want to play a MMORPG.
9. Yes character creation is not so amazing but really how many times have people walked up to someone to really take a good look at someone's face, these features are places in for those that want to mold the character for themselves, it's I think misunderstood to make your character look apart from other cause especially in the starting area you hardly notice them being different then you are, but when people progress they really start to look different and this has nothing to do with the limit of hairstyle’s(yes wish they had more choices indeed) but its the armor/clothing they wear witch makes them look different then everyone else around them, until level 10 I felt that every kojan ranger I met or saw was a clone of me, but after level 11 I started to see all sorts of new armor/clothing and now sometimes see somebody with similar looking cloth/armor, but hey' this happens in real life as well or do we think that every piece of clothing is a one of its kind item and no one else wears the same pants/shirt as I have somewhere else.
10. Glad you have admitted that
Yes to bad the game wasn't what you hoped for I do understand that and I read your reasons well not all are really valid but they are from your point of view. Maybe your last comment about trying out this game because you thought I might be good in a year or 2 is maybe the thing you should do, as far I can tell this game will reach that year so maybe give it another chance then ort maybe in a few months, or maybe when you have upgraded your rig give it another chance m8, really if one has a passion for MMORPG then V:SoH is delivering.
Sorry I do not fit in the profile like some of these Anal Retentive sort of players, this is not meant for you m8 cause you told us you lack experience in MMO's so no worry you where just being honest, but the AR is meant for those that speak of having experience in MMORPG but fail to see the big picture.
Yep, it's strictly my opinion that character animations and spell effects are important when speaking about 'character customization'. Because what's the point of making your character look however you want to look at creation when they animate like crap? Barbie and Ken can only look so real.
And you edited your post to add that tidbit, obviously I quoted you before hand. I didn't accuse you of having said anything about animations and spell effects. But since you didn't dispute it, I assume you agree Guild Wars has better character animations and spell effects? Yes? Then what exactly are you arguing about again?
Oh wow, is that right? Do you at least believe they were better done than Vanguard's, in the single context that I mentioned? i.e. 'Relevance' to the description. Ability for ability, spell for spell, it's fact that they are. You may believe they're over the top but you aren't disputed my point; relevance.
Who cares? What I said is still fact, you're only attempting to reason WHY it's fact. Thank you though, it's nice to know why Guild Wars has better character animations and more relevant spell effects. Glad we're in agreement.
Did you forget the early release thing? How do you know they wont add more spell effects, or improve the existing ones at some point. And the same goes for animations, and hair styles.
When did I say that they wouldn't? It'd be greatly welcomed if they did. But in the here and now, Guild Wars stomps Vanguard in character animations and spell effect relevance. You've yet to say ANYTHING that disputes what I said. I'm assuming you're just fiercely agreeing with it all.
I dislike the bad animations, among a dozen other things I speak about on these boards, but when have I ever said I dislike the game as a whole? I'm not so childish that I won't acknowledge the merits of another game (Guild Wars in this case) and point out the fallacies of another. They're just products in a competing market meant to be compared; none incite enough emotion for me to feel true hatred or love. You come off as fiercely inlove and protective of Vanguard though; don't worry, she's pretty. I didn't mean to point out her mole.
And me overexaggerate? Do re-read my first post, then read all the mess you followed up with, dissect each of my statements and I want you to poise each of your counterpoints next to them. You'll find you did nothing but argue with what you 'assumed' I ultimately meant but didn't actually say; which is that Guild Wars is better than Vanguard, eh?
Well I didn't, I merely said that Guild Wars character animations were better, spell effect animations more relevant, and it had more facial and hair options; while acknowledging that there are things Vanguard does more of in character creation.
Also, I do try and get friends and old guildmembers to play. I have been since beta. But I won't lie to them and try to sell Vanguard as a product with only small issues. I'll bluntly point out each and every flaw to anyone that inquires about. I care more about the people I'd ask to play than I do the game or Sigil themselves.
I could care less if 50k people play or 5 million people play, what does it matter when I'm only playing with so many on my server, and often only my friends? It isn't my job to market for Sigil; I'll treat the game with courtesy when I have legroom to; it's what I prefer, but I also have zero qualms about spitting venom at it when I have to; usually when a zealot makes it necessary to deliver a point.
So no thanks, I drop in on threads and conversations I feel like being apart of on a whim. I'm on no mission to either disparage or promote the game.
Edit: And when did I say that VG trumped GW in anyways. I said I played it for a bit and didn't really find it to my liking. But if that's were you want to go. OK. GW has
No player housing
No mounts
No seemless world
No player boats
No crafting How exactly can GW trump VG in gameplay aspects that don't exist in the game?
You said "you can't complain about character customization in VG". So I thought I'd bring up just a few of many ways you actually could. See how that worked? Take generalizations, elaborate on them; point, counter-point!
And I don't know why you brought all of that up, I said Guild Wars STOMPS Vanguard in the mentioned areas of character animations, spell effect relevance, facial and hair options. Why aren't you arguing with those? If it's because you agree with the FACTS which you should; you should have spared the pads of your fingers to torture you put them through every time you get a half-baked idea and foam out of the mouth posting about it.
Anyway, quite the drawn out way on your part just to agree with me by finding a whole lot of things to disagree with that I didn't even mention. I know it wasn't easy, but it's easy for me to say thank you again. So thank you.

You are not alone, lordfarrel.
If you had stayed longer, the only thing you would have to show for it would be a much longer list of complaints.
Welcome to the forum
the reason i played for 3 days was cos it was amazing and loads to do for 3 days, then you hit repeated quests, the same boring areas and immpossible diplomancy quests and overly dull crafting.
pretty shit game all in all. i was so looking forward to it for months and months as well :-(

And i actually bought the game, didn't know anyone else with it, so i done my cash, i was so exited that i almost bought the collectors edition, thank god i spent the extra cash on beer
Actually I'm more curious why people who say they don't care still read the posts anyway and then reply with "I don't care".
And while people may not care whether or not he stopped playing, but might be interested in the reasons why.
I thought of a way to flame you Lord.
You played GW for a year, you can't complain about the character customization in VG, and you know what I'm talking about.
Yeah, Vanguard lets you do a lot more at character creation, but it doesn't trump even Guild Wars in every area. Guild Wars stomps Vanguard in the aforementioned areas; all of which are major.

Yeah, Vanguard lets you do a lot more at character creation, but it doesn't trump even Guild Wars in every area. Guild Wars stomps Vanguard in the aforementioned areas; all of which are major.

Thanks for that.We do agree though that Guild Wars has more facial skins and hair options though, correct? Good. I made no opinions as to whether or not more facial skins and hair options were better than the ability to nitpick over anatomical choices. Both are fine features, you like the latter more, I'm sure others like the former more. Too bad Vanguard hasn't combined both.
I said Guild Wars stomps Vanguard in the aforementioned areas. Which were fluid character animations, relevant spell effects, more facial and hair options. That's all fact. Stop being so anxious to bang away angrily at your keyboard. You're reading things that aren't there. You're arguing with spectres.
I'm aware of all that, I do play Vanguard too you know.
But Guild Wars still stomps Vanguard in all the areas I mentioned, and the fact remains that Vanguard doesn't trump Guild Wars in every area.
Or maybe you can't comprehend what you read too well.

V:SoH has
My point is this.

Oh wow, is that right? Do you at least believe they were better done than Vanguard's, in the single context that I mentioned? i.e. 'Relevance' to the description. Ability for ability, spell for spell, it's fact that they are. You may believe they're over the top but you aren't disputed my point; relevance.
Who cares? What I said is still fact, you're only attempting to reason WHY it's fact. Thank you though, it's nice to know why Guild Wars has better character animations and more relevant spell effects. Glad we're in agreement.
