I don't really know yet, I'll propably try both games. WAR's problem for me is that it kinda looks cartoony and I haven't never really loved Warhammer lore or those tiny "action figures"... But Mythic developes WAR so I have high hopes towards it

The killer titles to look out for this year are Age of Conan and Warhammer. I'm keeping my eye on Warhammer but I must play Conan. It seems to be offering the most to me in the new way to do combat and more. Conan it is for me!

I would like to see an AoC or Any new mmorpg thread. Would like to see what other games people will decide next to AoC. Mostly because for me it's going to be between AoC or Gods and Heroes, I probably won't even bother with a War free trial. I'm not a fan boy of any game and not a basher of any either, just that like anyone els, I can't control what interests me.

I still dont think AOC wins "HANDS DOWN" over WAR. To each his own really.

Some people like the realistic look, some people like the more fantasy/cartoony look.

fantasy does not equal cartoony...cartoony is just cartoony which is what warhammer and wow is...

WAR is based on WARHAMMER. NO MATTER how good the graphics "CAN" ultimately be, they will still be based off of WARHAMMER painted miniatures. WARHAMMER models are cartoony in a sense.

So if you dont like cartoony, the graphics of WARHAMMER will never be good enough FOR YOU.

That doesnt mean there bad though or even worse than AOC. If they got super realistic looking graphics it wouldnt be Warhammer any longer and original fans would be severely disappointed.

Go post on the Warhammer forum and ask how happy all the Warhammer fans are about the current state of graphics. From what Ive read, they couldnt be happier.

didn't you answer the exact same thing previously? you don't need to do that cause I read the whole thread...lol...I was refering to you equating fantasy to cartoon look...I just saw you nitpicking other ppl so I just nitpicked at you...lol

its much too late in the evening to be arguing with someone about something so trivial but I will do my best to be civil nonetheless. I was under the impression that you didnt read what I wrote.

    But anyways....

    dx10 doesnt equal great graphics

great graphics dont make a game

You really dont have a leg to stand on if you decide to pick on the graphics of WAR.

Lol..they look like Warhammer. Would you say, "damn I just dont like that Ferrari cause it looks way to Sports Car-ish?" See my point?

Anyways this is me waving the white flag. Best wishes towards AOC

not picking on the graphics of WAR. However I'm picky when it comes to ART STYLE not GRAPHICS and I'm sure there are many others like me. Truth of the matter is even if WAR is a good game there will be ppl who won't be playing it because of it's cartoony look.

And yes I'd pick a Porshe over a Ferrari just by looks alone.

I'll be trying both, right now i'm leaning toward AoC because i think it has more potential to be a rich immersive sophisticated gameworld for several reasons (not necessarily in order of importance):

    - Photorealistic Graphics - while the heavily stylized gx of WAR is very professionally done, i've played so much WoW that i'm tired of flourescent green and purple cartoon worlds.

    - More Mature Players - the Warcraft name and mythos and style will tend to attract a somewhat more l33t kiddee crowd.

    - Smaller Company - giant Corporations =inevitably= make decisions based solely on money rather than fun.  Funcom is large enough to be able to afford the necessary support, and hardware / software assets, yet small enough to still give a damn about making a fun world for the sake of... Fun!... and not just pure greed like EA.

    - Experience - Funcom knows the difference between what works on paper and what works in game.  Of course so does Mythic (i loved DAoC) but remember, they're now EA Mythic and the studio will have to fight an epic battle for every new idea with rich billionaire suits who know nothing about mmogs and don't give a rat's ass whether a game is "fun" or not, just "show me the money"

    - Genre - AoC is a far more sophisticated world and mythos.  WAR is "saturday morning simplsitic" by comparison.

Having said all that, i think WAR will become the next mega-mmog simply because the IP appeals to a Mass Market , especially the younger crowd. (though it still won't attract casual players like WoW).

If there's anything that can topple WAR it will be EA itself, getting in the way of Mythic.  Of course... EA's never ever killed off a perfectly good IP before, have they.

I'm going with AoC mostly because it seems they are taking their time to put out a decent, FINISHED product. I like all the classes and subclasses they have created. The pvp might be pretty good,  and the land and history is vast in Hyboria. That is if they are able to put that richness into the game. And, that I really know and care less about Warhammer and its history, BUT thats my choice and opinion. I do remember going to the local comic shops and seeing people playing Warhammer all the time, so it'll probably get a strong following.

I'm going to try Age Of Conan first since it comes out before Warhammer I think.  Basically whichever comes out first.  I'm sweating the combat system in Conan though.  They talk about finishing moves you can do and it brings "Mortal Combat" finishing moves in my head.  I know this game is going for the XBOX also and I worry it will be focused in with there controllers. I hate console controllers.  Give me a mouse and keyboard, and it's on like donkey kong.  We will have to see.  If the game requires you to mash certain keys or buttons within a certain timeframe to complete a finishing move or do special moves, I don't think I can do it.  I remember the days of mortal combat mashing the controller trying to get scorpion to take his mask off and blow fire. I pray it's not like that.

To be honest, if this post would have come out several months ago, I would have said Warhammer. Now I'm not sure if I'll be playing either. Vanguard, RFO, and DDO have taught me some valuable lessons: Don't buy MMOs when they are first released. I've been  on three different occasions by companies who promised new innovations and story immersion. Neither one has delivered and in fact all three have fallen way short of expectations (set by me or the the company). So for now I'm not looking to any new titles to blow me away, or make me spend another $50 just to have it sit on my bookshelf. I have a feeling that both of these games will fail to deliver, just like all the others games I mentioned above. Go ahead and flame, my fire-retardent suit is on.

Totally... holding block and pressing up twice was quite taxing.

Im all for the new combat system, makes the game more interesting to melee classes than simply 'autoattack and do less than spectacular specials whenever they are available'. The main reason i play casters most of the time is because there is just more to it than autoattacking til the thing dies, hell you dont even need to aim for most games. (Also casting just looks better for the most part, although combos and finishing blows will certainly change that view for me)

I also like the FPS style of bow action they are going to implement. Should make it both harder yet more rewarding for ranged classes.

Im curious to see what they do with casters, what with all this innovation in combat.

This probably all sounds wierd at first, but like most innovations it will probably feel natural to us after the first month.

I'm actually excited to see how these two turn out.  We always have options before we buy...Beta, Trials, buddy keys, reviews.

As someone who is new to the genre (yes, WoW was my first game), I was not aware that these options existed, nor where they made available to me. That's why I'll wait a few months and see how everything shakes out.

Vanguard, RFO and DDO were all flamed for being stinkers as soon as the NDA was lifted on the Beta for each of them. So if you STILL fell for the hype and purchased the game you only have yourself to blame really. People such as yourself are the reason why the posts about each of these games after the NDA went down are so harsh, they were all super hyped up and all of them failed to deliver even a fraction of what they promised.

Warhammmer reminds me of wow not saying it in a bad way i just had enough of the graphics from playing wow for 2years> If hammer looked the way the opening movie did i would have to say hammer but it doesn't :(

Seriously, you are comparing the wrong mmorpg IMO.WAR is a different type of MMOPRPG than AOC and contrary to what anyone thinks here will do very well indeed.

What you should be asking is AOC or www.godsandheroes.com/

If Funcom Skip one beat and dont come with what they are saying..This baby is waiting in the wings. If G&H comes out before AOC well who knows.

Actually the have two things in place to counter population disparities. The first is the problem with players leaning heavily towards choosing elves or humans as their main or only race. These races exist on both sides negating that problem immediately. Albiet they did it unintentionally since GW designed Warhammer from the get go to have these core factions to highlight how the world of men and elves are on a path of eventual destruction.

Their second more intentional idea to combat population disparities was to modify the way Dogs of War are used in warhammer. In Warhammer, Dogs of War are mercenaries who fight for money or lust for the killing sprees. Dogs of War are more fickle in the actual warhammer universe while in the MMO version they have stronger loyalties and will come out in far greater numbers to equalize populations.

The whole Rome angle with it's gods and mythical creatures is quite interesting though.

One of the reasons I am so looking forward to AoC is that I KNOW how good Funcom is at innovation in this industry. AoC is sure to very different from everything else, and still very complete and enjoyable in Funcoms own unique fashion. I cant wait for it. :)
Man you really haven't read up on what G&H is about lol.Its probably more revolutionary than AOC or on par.

Take these ingame vids and notice that in all of them you are only seeing One player but he has his Minions with him so you really are a traveling band of adventurers.Whats this means is The classics CASTER  can now fight and defend himself through his Minions. The same gose for your Tank as he can have Minions that will heal him in battle.

This is just one of the many things in G&H and i will play AOC this will be on my hit list.

So much hatred.  There are two reasons I think WAR is using cartoonish graphics.  First, because it is a PvP/RvR focused game, having ultra real graphics would limit how many things could be rendered on the screen for certain video cards.  Sure the folks with $500 video cards could handle it but for the average player with super real graphics an RvR match would likely result in a lag fest.  Second reason I think WAR is going with cartoonish graphics is ... look at the success WoW has had.  A lot of people are complaining that WAR "looks" a lot like WoW.  Well we as the consumers are causing that.  WoW broke all the barriers on subscription counts and every gaming company had to turn their heads to see what WoW did to make it so that so many people stayed on board and payed monthly fees for so long.  WoW hosted a lot of first time gamers and their user interface was very friendly and customizable which allowed for people to have it "their way".

Anyway, I will be playing WAR because of a few reasons (Nothing against AoC).  I played warhammer on the tabletop and enjoyed it a lot.  Also, I am looking for a game that is focused around PvP and rewards PvP more than just raiding PvE for months.  I believe WAR will satisfy that craving.
