hello, im thinking of getting a Assault Rifle, but i dunno what secondary powers i should pick

im thinking of Energy mani cuz of the build up and bone smasher

im thinking of Devices cuz of the targeting drone and cloking device

But what? Build up helps boost Damage/Accarcy DMG=SNIPER=Good stuff!

    Well,

1st: Make sure you have BUILD UP in your secondary.

2nd: Pick a different damage source between primary and secondary.  (Don't pick fire/fire for example, nor cold/cold, nor Assault/devices)

3: Assault Riffle is doing LETHAL damage mostly, and this is the most comon resistance/defense mobs/players will have.  This is still a good choice, anyway there are no bad choice...but FIRE/COLD/ENERGY would be far less resisted/avoided by monsters/players in general.

4: Based on what you said...I would recommend /energy as your secondary, most definitely...for the primary, Assault is good, but...it will be kinda resisted...so you might consider anything that isn't identical damage source as your secondary!  So if you go with /energy in your secondary, pick anything except energy or electric...Assault is good...but again, Fire or Ice will usually bring you better results.

This is only my opinion.   Fire/Energy or Ice/Energy would be my recommendation; yet Assault/Energy would be doing nicely as well.    Assault/devices would be a bad choices IMO, as if you get into a wall due to resistance to lethal, well, it would be bad.  In all other 3 examples, you will usually relly on your primary, but switch to secondary attacks depending on the situation.

PS: If you really like /devices, you might want to reconsider your choice of a blaster, a defender might be more what you want...or a controller...just talking here, but /devices lack build up and do tons of nice weird stuff...that doesn't kill the enemies!

You inspire me to build a blaster with Assault rifle/Energy

THANKS! but with my past experiance, i relized that energy is more better than devices, cuz of energy punch/build up/and bone smahser!!

  • First off Assault rifle blasters really kinda need a team.  Just a warning.

Second as an Assault Rifle blaster you ahve access to a number of cone attacks and should therefore, in my opinion, take the Energy secondary due to boost range.  Range boosts make cones longer and therfore wider at the  max range therefore you can hit alot more people for AoE carnage.

If cone attack really aren't your thing do whatever you want, but that is the biggest strength of Assault Rilfe.

Look up Master of Cone's guide if you want a build and explanation

With cones attacks, you should consider fly/hover, as starting the battle from above usually include everyone in the cone...

get stamina at 20, nothing is more important

for pvp you dont want Fly usually. Spines stalkers can pick you off easy with Impale if you'r ein range. /Cold corrupters have an auto toggle to bring you down. An SS brute can through a boulder and yank you down. many, many sets have -fly.

for pvp u usually want hurdle+CJ+SS+hasten. 3 slot jump Hurdle

Snipes usually blow but I see AR has an activation time less than 2 seconds. interesting.... no comment there

get power boost and aid self. Powerboosted aid self heals for a LOT

most blaster go with the force field epic but u can always respec cause youre a hero and the DEvs loves heroes

almost everyone has Lethal resist at high lvl pvp which does not bode well for Assault Rifle. I mean even dominators and corrupters get lethal resist in their epics and no one skips it. your lower DPS from AR doesnt help. so while your secondary (/EM) gets stronger your primary is steadily getting weaker and weaker. To make a bad situation suck worse, you have a bunch of cones in your adult life. Cones are short range attacks this means you will always be upfront mostly. You lack the extreme range that Ice primary has for pvp. your secondary effects are also a bit weaker

You do not need both beanbag + Stun. pick one or the other.

Dont forget to use power thrust on /ELA brutes. the newbies will still be using Grounded which power thrust will blow right through

always try to team with rad or sonic defenders. since your main dmg type is seriously resisted, a defender can get rid of the shields for you

Assault/Tactics actually benefit the /dev blasters more cause the added +perception allows them to hunt stalkers. but being AR/EM I am not sure if you need that cause it will take yellows + tactics to see stalkers. unless they are a newb and dont have hide+stealth. However overlapping tactics is a nice boon that will allow you to see stalkers nicely in sirens

when picking a build you have to choose for your type of gamestyle, for example do you want a pvp build? or a build to play around in teams running missions doing task forces etc...I have a build strictly for pvp so i didn't pick up a lot of stuff that normal people do since all i want to do is burst dmg but anyways for pvp i'm going to recomment a few options...

    Fire/Energy or Cold/Energy

    Recommended attacks:

Fire: Fire blast, Fire Ball, Blaze, Snipe

Cold: Ice Bolt,Ice Blast,Freeze Ray,Bitter Ice Blast  (you don't have to have freeze ray but an occasional hold is nice)

Energy Melee: Power Thrust, Bone Smasher & Total Focus

of course you'll need to pick up your aim/buildup powers but the secondary powers you'll want are

Boost Range & Power Boost, Conserve Power is optional i didn't get it cause i have geas of the kind ones accolade which gives +recovery and force of nature which gives +recovery and fire attacks don't take a lot of endurance its the melee attacks that do. not to mention i have +20 endurance from other accolades.

    Pool Powers

    Combat Jumping,Leaping,Acrobatics

    Hasten,Superspeed

Aid Other, Aid Self (heals are nice especially with powerboost but i've been seeing some blaster going with invisibility powers for stalking)

    Swift,Hurdle,Stamina

    Epic Powers

Temporary Invulnerability, Personal Force Field, Force of Nature

this epic set if the most awesome epic set i believe there is but some blasters are starting to pick up ice mastery for hibernate but mostly for snow storm which gives -fly -recharge -speed

If you want to hunt Stalkers then i suggest picking up fire/devices or ice/devices w/ tpfoe...its always good to give

stalkers a taste of their own medicine, tpfoe/tripmine one shots stalkers lol....

If you want to PVE then i suggest going with Fire/Fire blaster they are by far the best for PVE damage.

    Gelasius

    Turbulance lvl 50 fire/em blaster

    Bones- lvl 50 emp/electric defender

Cold Thermal lvl 50 ice/thermal corruptor

    Gelasius lvl 30 spines/dark scrapper

Mister Bubbles lvl 26 Illusion/bubbler troller

These type of comments come from players who have no ability to develop tactics for there toons. They rely on the build only.

    heres my 2 Cents:

Make PVP/PVE Interesting [Keep in mine this is if your a Vet and have some experience of CoX pvping] every one and there mom has a BS/regen scrapper or a rock/nrg Tank or a fire/Nrg Blapper. It gets kinda old and predictable. I have just about all of them. My new PVP/PVE toon is a fire/fire cold mastery.  I believe this is one of the harder builds to make in to a working PVP/PVE toon. The Lack of control powers that come in the fire/fire buils makes it harder to create tactics for them. So you have to compinsate with a good epic  and well thought out tactics. Also [Keep in mind I only PVP in RV!!] most people in the PVP/PVE zone will take you for granted and pass you off as an eazy kill. So they never see any real tactics come out of that build. Alot of players will come at you blindly because they think your a eazy kill. I think it makes it more fun because its alot more challenging. I have one of the few blaster builds that doesn't require the Fitness Power Pool to survive.

so if you want a good PVP/PVE toon. theres 2 ways to do it.

Go with your standerd builds that every one uses.  Yes they are good at what they do.

Or go with somthing uniqe that  actualy requires a little skill. At least you can say your actually better then the person you beat. Insted of you just got lucky and got the first hold in or the first AS in and killed him lol.

just my 2 cents of corse lol.

I like the concept Long range power with melee defence and damage. I would take the Force master epic for this build tho.

But I like it... it will take some work and testing with Slotting to make it work but I like it. I say go for it.
