Even though the game isn't coming out until december (but beta in spring sometime) i think warhammer will be the only hope of any sort of good mmo out in 2007. If I'm missing a good mmo someone please don't hesitate to tell me.
I hear Vanguard is supposed to be the king of all MMOs ever made next gen or not. They have something like 50 million subs already, think you should really check that game out. Also heard in that game there is a new ability called lag, itssupposed to be the next gen of abilties and spells and you can recive it at lvl 1.
lol i tried vanguard in beta, didn't like it that much, and not saying it was completley the worst game i've ever played.. (close to the worst and i didn't lag)

WAR is going to be good. I am waiting for my chance to snatch up a beta slot. If the game has good PvP without too much imbalance, I'll play. Hopefully they will work with making clothies have less cheap abilities (fear).

Warhammer will be defnetly great no questions about it, but its not the only hope, Age of Conan will be as good as WAR or even better and i have one more in my list Gods and Heroes for some reason ppl dont talk much about it.
Age of Conan offers some unique gameplay evolution, and I think the guildkeeps and towns will improve replayability - I'm just not sure it'll be enough to keep me playing very long after I max.
Gods & Heroes also offers some serious gameplay evolution (a paired combat system that actually has characters reacting to each other - visibly dodging blows and suffering from blows) and a system to allow players to command their own squads of followers. Again, not sure it'll make me want to play very long after I hit max.
Pirates of the Burning Sea is including a campaign of battles for sea ports - capture territory! Ship command, boarding actions, capturing seaports, trade and pirating. The campaign sounds like something that would keep me playing long after I've hit max.
Yeah yeah I know about AOC but I have yet to SEE anything spectacular. They have good screen shots, one shitty video and a whole lot of TALK.
Im a big caster at a heart and having my spells possibly backfire sounds completely retarded. I mean will melee have chance lop off there leg when they swing? I dont know, it just sounds very anti caster to me.
I'm keeping my eye on Warhammer having played the table top game. However Age of Conan is the one I'm really waiting for. There are several videos and screen shots available to watch. As for comments made by another poster here. This game trys to stay true to the way magic feels in the Conan world. Casters in the Conan universe were always feared and near "God" like in their power. As for the chances of casting to back fire it only means you need to have more skill to be a caster.
WAR is 2007's only hope for me, but I think there are a plethora of other games coming out to satisfy a wide range of tastes. 2007 is truly going to b a diverse and interesting year for MMOGs.
Vanguard is pretty crappy (in my opinion), but some people like it and when and if it is suitably fixed, it could become a wet dream for diehard EQ1 fanatics looking for something new, but not too new.
Age of Conan is looking neat, but I really do not want a new combat system like they are proposing, and besides combat the game seems rather shallow to me. Still, the game is coming across as more of an action MMOG,so some people will be all over that.
LotRO is super...generic...and will attract people who want a very basic game experience in a well-known world. There is not a whole ton of content, which is something players might enjoy as it will not overwhelm. Of course, they can always add more content through patches and expansions, so it could become a very large, thriving world.
These are the only games I have paid attention to, but there are many more. Regardless, I love seeing more MMOGs released, even bad ones, as it all furthers the genre.
I was a big fan of AoC at the start, but the more info that gets released, the more i feel bad about it. (this is mainly to controls, but yes i still have to test that out )
also TCoS seems quiet nice and i'm sure the open beta of april might make me subscribe, just to fill the hole of emptyness till winter
"It's no good coming to our game if you are trying to grow weed, It's no good coming to our game if you want to make pants. It's only worth coming to our game if you want to burn things to the ground." -Paul Barnett, WAR is coming
Other than WAR, I'm only looking forward to The Chronicles of Spellborn. AoC doesn't interest me at all; I have zero interest in the Conan mythos and the gameworld just looks really, really generic.
If you want a real harsh death penalty, go play Russian Roulet. - Hamzal
daoc came out with NO fanfare at all. The games popularity spread with word of mouth and internet post to internet post. No comercials or game ads from a small company like mythic. so you never really know WHATS going to be good until its here and people are playing it.
Pirates of the burning sea (see my review) looks to be a fun and innovative game. I myself am totally hooked on the idea that if a guild is stronger than me I can still play a role in ruining their ports economy to make them weak insted of guns blazing type approach.
LOTRo has the name, and the IP. From what I have played it was a visual gem and laugh out loud funny. High adventure is lotro middle name.
Two worlds. I had a sit down interview with reps of this game (article to be written soon) this game has graphics like a dream. you could fall in love and play this in 2007 it wouldnt hurt, trust me. CONAN- look its a rollercoaster ride. You love it, then it stalls and you hate it, then theres more hype and you spark up again only to see no content released and fizzle out frustrated again. Well they say at GDC conan stole the show and is the new rush you are looking for as an action adventure game..
and then there is W.A.R. what else can we say about it.
If the basic system of WAR is nearly as same as Daoc, it will be worth to wait imo. Other game that I'm waiting for is AoC which is the only mmo besides WAR that I'm looking forward to play this year
"I actually cook my meat with nothing but my burning hatred for vegetables"
In addition to WAR, I'm watching three games: Age of Conan offers some unique gameplay evolution, and I think the guildkeeps and towns will improve replayability - I'm just not sure it'll be enough to keep me playing very long after I max. Agreed on G&H and PotBS. Age of Conan doesn't appeal to me that much because of the console compatibility. Console and PC does not go together very well as of yet(hopefully they prove otherwise of crouse)
These have my attention. Currently testing LoTR its ok so far but pvp is a joke and the stories run out fast because they are saving them for expansion.

my hopes for new MMOs this year lie in WAR, Tabula Rasa, and MAYBE Exteel (if they havent basically cancelled it and not said anything... no news seems to be comming out of there).
All around, I see all falling (at least for me) to W40K.
Check out TCoS Beta in April (if u live in Europe...). The game sounds reeally great with some nice/new ideas etc.
Also there isn`t that much hype about it than on some other coming MMOG`s. For ME it`s a better game than WAR as i can be quite sure that there won`t be as many Kiddies as there will be in WAR, and I`m sure there will be...
Personally, ill be waiting for both Warhammer online due to its distinctive RvR and PvP, rather than other games which say they focus on pvp but in reality they dont..
Also Age of Conan is also on my upcoming games to buy due to like what others have said....new gameplay...and in my opinion a detailed story..
Im sure WAR will rock, but my eyes are tuned deep for AoC. I think itl be a great game with revolutionary gameplay.
On the list of rocking MMOs im waiting on are:
Granado Espada: truly innovative and fun to play.
Pirates of the burning sea: a niche game but it seems headed in a good direction to provide lots of fun.
TCoS: a game that has a neat approach to classes that have been used an abused by all fantasy MMOs, giving them some flavor that on paper seem intriguing so far.
AION: the flying pvp has me drooling as as always it artistic concept is a treat in itself.
Huxley: may *crosses fingers* bring us some awesome FPS action is a persistant MMO world.
2007 seems poised to have a bunch of great games......or.....utter failures, only time will tell.

WAR imo will be the only solid game of 08.

Stargate

WAR for the next 3-4 years then W40K until the end of time .....unless THQ shits the bed
