Both my husband and myself  played for about a year and a half or so AFTER first getting into Alpha then ALL of BETA.  I played a human cleric (Level 30 something?) and hubby played a human ranger (Level 30 something).  We were more crafters though as opposed to anything else and had developed ALL of the crafting skills possible in the game using both characters with multiple trade skills as well as multiple characters.  I also led a guild called "Ascension" about a year and a half or so until my entire guild one by one left for "greener MMORPG pastures" When we got down to 6 of us left, even though we collectively owned an entire guild village area at the time, we all disbanded when EQ2 launched (October-November of 2004?).  We gave it our all while we were there.

Have been actively searching for a game with as interesting and comprehensive of an in-game crafting/building system ever since with little success.  EQ2 was close to what we were searching for when it first launched but quickly went the way of the DODO as SOE little by little changed EQ2 into a game we DID NOT want to play or pay monthly for.  Currently, we are hopeful that Vangard will provide that which we have been seeking for so long!!!  Time will tell.

If anyone else out there knows of a decent MMORPG for CRAFTING similar to Horizons crafting PLEASE drop us an email at cosilumiere@ascensionhome.com  !!!

played originally on earth shard, then a year or so later came back to unity with a new char Xauss, a gnomish stormie (+druid +cleric +spiritist) / tailor (+spellcrafter +alchemist +weaver +mason). i stopped playing last spring (and didnt suffer any billing problems - ever)

the simultaneous use of gnomish prowess (racial ability doubling speed of all actions) with melee flurry (up to four blows in 1 attack) handwraps were already the fastest weapon, whilst using energise and static aura (storm disciple specific abilities to further increase attack speed) meant i could hit a mob ~10 times to every 1 hit from another char

Big love going out to former Mystic Knights (disbanded some months ago) -

Fade-Away, Franka Wintersday/ Tygo, Chasing the Dragon/ Rann, Scoramus Zool, Fidri Ragnir, Monnlight/ Theodred, Eriad, Nitroson, Nitrodan

and to other former freinds Xyrana Stardust (/hugs), Ssajit (the daddy), Disintergrate (DPs+ambo = no DPs), Leonardo (legend), Godly/Zeus (WTS BHM!), and many others too many to remember

I had an account for exactly 2 years, from the day it was released until the day I realised my account was still being billed (which was about 3 months after I had quit). Never looked back, but I know people who still "play".

Forum signatures are stupid and annoying. I've turned mine off.

I played for a few days when it was first released.  It was clearly not ready for release and the server was dead.  Two things I loved about this game even during my short stay were the music and the community working together for common goals.  Unfortunately it was just too buggy to stick with, and I moved on to other games.

Played for the last 2 years.

Reasons for leaving ... frauds with billing ... lies about refunds ( re the mmorpg report pt 2 ) .... no communication skills

All up blatant rip offs and the name change from EII to PME wont fool any-one its still the same crappy company in charge.

My best friend and I started the day of release. I think his name was Danny, and my characters name was Leviath. I do not remember the server we were on. We were both Elemental archers pre-nerf. The game was so addicting, I think I called out of work for an entire week. I think we were in the mid 40's when they nerfed most of the classes. My class was hit really hard, and I just couldn't enjoy playing anymore. I would say a couple months or so as far as play time. He was a Saris, and I was the Barbarian type, forget the race name.

Horizons was the first real MMO i played hard. I played from the day it was released. myself, my bro and 2 of my good mates. We had the market around our fingers, highest tinkerer, carpenter, jewler, and dragon armor crafter across all the servers.

It was a good MMO to introduce to a new player to the genre. now as a more experienced player to mmo's, I would say that this game had HEAPS of potential. The game would have done alot better if devs took the opion of its players and payers though. Sad really, devs lost the game due to ignorance of  fans opinons, when it counted. dont know what it was like in the end, or is. (eg, took about 6 mths before the devs made the game really Radeon card compatable, or building constructable. they just simply promised fans to much to soon and could not deliver)

From when i played, was alot of click-click-click when it came to crafting, got real boring somtimes. then the birth of HZradio, now called something else but still going strong i hear. If it was not for this omg, i would have died.

I tell you what, if the game had pvp and still had a strong player pop, and had faith in the devs, i would even pay to go have a re-visit of the game. In my opinon this game had more potential then any other mmo i have played. But all is lost . Wow how things have changed.

PS. Soju, Leviath, i reckon i was on the same server as yourself. I remember i used to farm lumberjack a certain spot of trees where you used to farm. I think Rekit Blight might have been my name, i was a little elf.

    wow, nostalgia...

I played at release, no clue what server but I think my char name was Acedes/Kuldor, one of the two.  I was a cat healer type and played for a month or two.  It was fun cuz I was always chasing this other healer to lvl..lol.  She/he was always 1-3 lvls higher then me, never could catch em.  I liked the game, really enjoyed the ability to rebuild bridges and whatnot, but the game was too laggy for me when more then 5 people were on the screen at a time.

  • RekitRekit Member Posts: 53

oh yes the lag. used to be a HUGE issue esspecially on huge raids.

I remember the server we were on was racing another to get the 4 mine tunnels to an instance built and be the first of anyone to get  to the other side. When we finnaly got there, you were dead and reserected a dozen times before you relised you were having lag issues. The game had major issues holding more then one gang online in anyone area at anytime.

anyway long story short, we were the second server to get a tunnel thing epic done.

    I played at release.

I lasted around 16 days and quit in firm disgust.  A coworker of mine lasted two months.  Horizons (to me) was perhaps the most boring game I had ever played.  I can't for the life of me remember which server, but I was one of those lizard guys.

I've regretted quitting a few MMOs, but not this one.

I beta'd this game for about three months and then for about a month after release.  I quit when my guild imploded due to internal and external politics.

Anywhoo, the game was a lot of fun for me, although they never quite lived up to their promises.  The big problem I saw with the game pre-release was that too many companies had their hands in the pot.  It turns out that for half the time I was testing and entering bug reports, my reports were not getting to the developers.  The parent company and the one doing the real work were not communicating reports.  Turns out I was reporting to the wrong people.  I only found out about the problem during a special event when I got to spend some time chatting with one of the devs.

I bought the box the day it came out and started on my way to being a true dragon... Then hit the 'little' problem with the fact there was no way in the game to gain adulthood.

This caused me to pause for a few days, right about the time Shadowbane came out and the lore of the Centaur caught my attention...

Even though I've returned to Horizons a few times over the years... I've never really gone back.

I played a Human Mage to start with called Pyrus.  I added in some cleric levels, some warrior levels until I decided to play a Battlemage.  I loved the idea of this class though it was lacking something.  I played that class up to 68 and decided I need more firepower so started leveling Mage again.  Got to 72 with the Mage class on Dawn Server which became Order.  Played over a 13 month period from release - liked the game a lot but it needed more creatures mobs in the wilderness but the best thing was the way we could impact on the world. I liked Horizons and it is a pity it has ended up the way it has.

    Currently Playing:- nothing

I can't remember what shard I played on, but I played for 6 months from January to June right after launch.  It was my first MMORPG and I decided I wanted a challenge so I chose to be a human mage named Thuban and played until level 100.  I made heaps of friends during that period, played with a few in EQ2 for a little bit!

I wish someone would re-engineer a Horizons without bugs... the lag monster was killer!  Vanguard:SoH is about the closest thing I've seen as far as the number of races/classes/crafting design, however, it too suffers from similar bugs to that of Horizons... I tried HZ again about a month after they sold to another company (the first sell out) and it was absolutely horrible compared to when I had left a month after the server merge.

I loved Horizons! Good memories =)

I played from the start on the Euro Ice server up until Oct 2004 which was just before the merger of those servers (I didnt leave over the merger, rather regretfully due to the various issues that troubled the game). I played as a dragon named Irrilian, I forget the exact levels but he was 70/70.

Horizons was my first mmorpg .

I purchased the boxset on 12/09/2003.  I still have my one active account on the Chaos shard, originally from Bounty.  I do not want to give up my dragon, Vengeance, so I keep rolling along.  I intend to keep my account until the lights go out.  I have been one of the fortunate few who have had zero billing problems.  In the games current state, even though I still play, I would warn away anyone new from trying it until the billing problems have been sufficiently dealt with.  I have seen alot of good people drop from the game over the years from lack of content and most recently the billing.  In my opinion, HZ needs a miracle to survive.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

I played a Dwarven Warrior called Boggdin for about two months before the merge on a server I don't recall, until about ten months after the merge, on Order. I started the guild called The Seventh Faction, and focused on tinkering, I think it was. Decent game, not enough dungeons though. I honestly didn't mind it though.

  • tetchytetchy Member Posts: 30
loved the game, played before the merger of servers with a dragon and a druid / bloodmage combo. nothing has matched the community, or the complexity of the crafting. left because freinds moved on to play other games and server populations fell off a cliff

    ( o )( o )

  • blackdogblackdog Member UncommonPosts: 33

I played for the first year, opening day of retail and for a full 12 months.

Freya a dragon on Expanse until the merge. (100/100)

I decided to leave after so many promised improvements were dropped.

ie dragon lairs, new areas, come on part of the fun of flying as a dragon was checking out the various areas.

all the land they gave us with the expansion was mainly housing complexes, I left for WoW, and I do miss my dragon as

the freedom of flying over the landscape was great.  ah, such promise and such incompetency.......

some day a great game will come along with Dragons again. (and no they were not overpowered)

now searching for a new MMO again......

I played for 2 weeks... Pretty much figured out its the same mobs you fight all the way through the game.  Got bored and spent forever trying to cancel, kept getting billed even though I cancelled and had to keep calling the CC company to tell them I cancelled my subscription yet they kept billing

I played it a bit at release. Think I had a human crafter. Don't remember much of it. Tried it again later with a Satyr. Never really got into it, didn't live to up to my expectations. A shame really, it had good ideas.
