So I just started playing tonight, and am encountering a stumbling block. What is the deal with communication in this game. I see absolutely no player-player communication yet several people running all over the place. This is frustrating because I am trying to get some advice on a quest I'm stuck on (Finding the Bow in Sprigley's Cellar-where the heck is it?!) and don't see how I can communicate with others. I have to /say things which I am gathering has a limited range, /shout - used this to no results, and then I resorted to direct tells to other players around me (all with 'idk' answers). I then scrolled up through the chat box, all NPC dialouge, no character dialouge. What the hell is the deal with the communication in this game? Anyone know if there is something I may be doing wrong or what? Thanks in advance.

For communication and quest help try /ooc
The communication in LOTRO is fine, you just don't know how to use it.
As the above poster said, /ooc is "out of character" chat. That means it will broadcast to everyone in your current area. There's a small chat bubble next to the input line in the chat window that you can select the default of where your text goes.. be it fellowship, say, ooc or other types of chat.
Also if you click on the tab in the chat window, you can filter out or add and types of chat that you want.
