I cant answer the download question but I will teel you what I know.....

I went down to the local gamestop and pre ordered 2 copies of the game and they gave me 2 beta discs. i installed the beta when I got home and registered my preorder account. When I log into the launchpad it shows the servers and such but they are closed to me. The blurb on the side says that preoder people get to start playing on March 30th which is nearly a month before the game releases on april 25th. Also it says we get to keep our beta caracter in retail if we want.

Thats what I know. Im just waiting for the 30th so I can play.

Well, in Europe it's not so easy, especially if you order to a country which still counts as "exotic" to some developers/retailers (although Hungary is in the EU for almost 3 years now... eh).

Anyway, I pre-ordered the game too, Game.net (UK branch game.co.uk in fact) had no issues with that, the only thing I don't know is when and how I'll get my beta key :) I think it'll come in email, but I am not 100% reassured...

    Anyone having the same issue?

It _could_ be the same, but I have no info about any shops that would keep "preorder" copies in stock.

Even if they had it, I would prefer the online preorder, as I do not want to buy the preorder DVD -I am sure local retailers in Hungary would not take it back for refund (I know them).

To make things even more complicated, currently I'm living in Ireland :) and will be moving home in 3 weeks time, so I hade give the "ship to" for my preorder as per my hungarian address...

Well if you think about it the DVD's will have already been stamped by then so the difference between the two versions will be small.  You are mainly buying a CD KEY and a backup copy of the install.  You can probalbly just keep useing the version you downloaded for the beta to keep playing.

Here is the deal for Europe........

At Codemasters E-shop you can buy a preorder key who will give you 10days play before launch.

The key will come by mail and a server to download from. You can NOT use the beta client for that.

You will also get a couponcode witch will give you the money back  for the preorderkey if you order  the full game.

If you then buy the standard/special game it will arrive at your house (retailversion) some days before 24/4.

Some retailsellers offer both the game and the preorder key in one package, but the rutine are the same.

Important: You have to preorder or buy a package with preorder to play 10 days before launch. That will also grant you to be a FOUNDER for £100. Then you never pay any subscription fee again

    Good luck!

I have been beta testing for a long time now.  I did the preorder thing, picked up the disk at Best Buy.  I registered on the site.  What do I do with the disk?  How do I get the High Res option?

Am I supposed to install something from the disk? or just keep playing the beta I downloaded months ago.

    thx all

if you want to do high res and have the CD just insert the CD and run it . When the box come up choose the repair function. Then run the game and it will patch about 6000 files, it took about 3 hours for me, and that is all there is to it. By the way in the States the pre order beta starts on 30 March. Full open public begins on 06 April.

Thanks Jack.  Speaking of download, the other day there was a huge patch.  I am wondering what that was.

The LOTRO Europe website has a helpful page for where to order Preorder Packs, depending on which country in Europe you're in. It lets you into the game only 10 days before full release, not almost a month as with the American release. As far as subscriptions go, you can (as previously stated) buy a £100 lifetime subscription, or buy a 6-month sub for £36 (though there's no mention of whether this price will continue after the 6 months is over). Checkitout for yourself here: http://www.lotro-europe.com/wheretobuy/preorder.php

Meh... for me this game was always gonna be just a filler until things start releasing later this year that I'm actually interested in (PotBS, AoC, WAR). Dunno if I'll bother...
