Hey everyone. I've been looking to get into this game for a while now, but haven't been able to find a trial on the internet. I discovered that I need someone currently playing to send me a buddy key or something. Since none of my friends play, I was wondering if one of you guys have a trial account/buddy key (or whatever it's called) that I can use to try the game out. My email is centrik@gmail.com Thanks in advance!

I bought the Vana'diel collection (game + 2 first exp packs) and Treasures of Aht Urghan exp pack separately. No trial/buddy key in included.
I've heard it's unique, and you either love it or hate it. I dont wanna waste $30-50 and realize I hate it.
hi i am in the same boat i have been looking for a trial of this game as i played it many years ago and would like to see how far it has come now and i cant realy afford to pay out for the game if i dont realy like it so i would be most greatfull if anyone could get me a code to be able to activate a free trial

Absinthed:
If you wanna see how far this game has come over the years, no trial key will ever help you. Simply because that the additions in the game are not in the low-lvl areas, and you will need lots of time to get ready for the added stuff. Over the years, 3 expansions has been released, and Chains of Promathia is the only one meant to be started at "early".
CoP-missions has lvl caps. The first ones (the crags) has a lvl 30 cap. This means that you shouldn't be below, and if you are above, your lvl will be restricted down to 30. It also means you wil have to lvl one job to 30, and another to 15 (for sub), cause you will have problems joining a CoP-mission party if you're not as strong as maximum allowed. When you have done the 3 first missions (I'm counting crags here, not CSs and such), you will access new areas and missions, intended for lvl 40. The newest expansion, Treasures of Aht Urghan, is intended for lvl 50-55+, though it is possible to get to the new city (Whitegate / Al Zhabi) much earlier.
So, a trial key will help you find out if you still like the game, but it won't help you check out expanded stuff. The trial period will be too short for that.
Almost forgot: If a trial key even exists, you will need to borrow the CDs from someone. Square-Enix does not have any options of downoading the game files.
id have 2 disagree with the above post u can download the game here:
www.playonline.com/ff11us/download/trial/index.html
u have 2 have a code 2 download it tho and that is also on the buddy pass thing along w/ the key u need 2 create your account
question i have the trial and the download code . and also the game and all the expantions but i cant use the cd *dont have a dvd driver* so im using the link to download the game will i b able to make a full acount after my trial is over ?
I have the Vana'diel Collection, the version on the image on that page you refer to, not the 2007 edition. SE claims on that site that "Each copy contains a Vana'diel Buddy Pass". That's a lie - no such thing in my copy. The ONLY thing within my pack, except from the DVD + docs CD, is a note glued to the inside of the cover, with these 5 keys: POL reg + Tetra Master + FFXI main + Zilart + Promathia. This doesn't mean that they never included any buddy codes, but it does mean that not every copy has one. Btw, my editon is British/European.
I suspect that the page is quite new, since the stuff about partners is "coming soon", aka not ready yet. Christwarior, i'm a bit impressed you found that link, cause that page seems to be hidden well. I can't find links to it from the main page. Also, if you search (US site) with "trial" as the only key word, the only result i got was about the 30 days included when you buy the pack. No results at all for "buddy".
Bozmob: I'm not sure. On the download site, it says the size is 2 GB. Full install, with all 3 expansions + all updates, is almost 8 GB. My guess is that you only download the main game. Seems obvious, cause as I say in a comment above, there's really no need to include the expansions in a trial period. Also, I had to install the expansions before I could register them, so it seems just as obvious that there's probably no option for downloading registered packs. It MIGHT be possible for you to register after the trial, using the code included in the bought pack. I'm guesssing you can do that, cause I really doubt they would require you to install the game once more after the trial is over.
EDIT:
Bozmob, if i were you, i would invest in a CD/DVD player asap - they sell burners "everywhere" with dual layer, etc for almost nothing now. They are also VERY easy to install.
