Codemasters is after all not Turbine - and they did not always follow Turbine's example (10d trial vs 7d trial, for example)
I was wondering the same and sad to say it does seem to be US only.
When you look on the US site it's one of their main news stories there and there's plenty of talk on the forums about it but when you look on the EU site there's not a thing on there. It's also normally standard for a blanket E-mail to go out to all previous subscribers but i've certainly not received any mail.
CoH/CoV - D-Zol/Kinslayer
Auto Assault - Slayer
WoW, LOTRO, DDO - Kinsul
Matrix Online - Tempest
I've seen several players saying how they've been able to level their characters through solo game play up to lvl 6. There's a good handful of solo content and they appear to be including new "solo" game play options on some of the older quests as development continues.
In the least, you should be able to advance level 5 by doing solo quests.
What I would like to see is a greater faction reward when completing quests with fewer then a full party. So having 3 lvl 5 characters instead of 6 would grant a slightly larger reward.
As it stands now, exp debt has minimal impact on game play. Two sucessful quests will typically clear most extensive debt.
It's actually 10 days free we are getting in Europe. We still get the extra xp from the first weekend, which starts on Friday to Sunday. Then we get another 7 days!
Previously, I never had much time to play DDO, and I am going to take this oppertunity to judge the game properly. I've been a fan of the D&D franchise ever since I was a ten yeard old lad, and so I am really hoping that I can get into this game. Previously, the lack of an 'outside' world put me off, as did the seeming lack of actual role-playing, something I was hoping would be this game's strong point. Hopefully if I give it some time, I shall discover that these things exist in the game. Else it seems like an awful wasted oppertunity for a great game.
Just my luck though, at time of writing I am having trouble with my ISP, and am having to resort to using 'dial-up'!
Don't know if the game will still run, but can't hurt trying.
Free is good. I can play for free. DDO is definitely worth $0.00 US.
...but not one cent more.
