Guild Wars 2 rumors

gillvane1gillvane1 Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,503
I heard there was a Guild Wars 2 in the works. The 2nd edition of this game will be a full on MMORPG, in other words no lobbies with instances to fight in, but a real world that all players will be in at the same time (not all players, but all players on a server).

Anyone got any details on this one or heard anything about it?

Someone mentioned it on a post on the VN boards here:

    MMORPG Discussion

Sorry, I don't remember the exact post. Although I don't mind starting rumors, , I'm not trying to start this one. I was just wondering is someone could confirm it.

Why create a sequel when you can just keep creating expansion packs?
DOAC is still the MMO I judge other games by, My first and still my favorite.

there will eventually be guildwars 2, though they want 12-13 chapters first.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Thanks. That's what I was looking for. They mention "open war DAoC style" so that sounds pretty good. Release time probably in 2010 though, so it's a ways off.

Did you stop and think that the "expansion every 6 months" business model failed?

Guild wars has sold 3 million copies world wide with all three expansions. Yes its a horrible horrible failure.

Trand - uh, you do realise that online games, especially MMOs, have a TON of ongoing costs. I guess you didn't think that the income from the 3 million copies sold over a 2 year period has not offset the expenses incurred over those 2 years and about another 2 years of development time spent on the first Guild Wars. That would be a revenue of around $120 million over a 4 year period. For an MMO with high end graphics and sound like Guild Wars that is bad.

And here I thought nobody except ArenaNet themselves knew how much they spent on graphics & sound.

Read the latest report from NCSoft, GuildWars is one of the titles that is making money.

Eye of the North, the 4th chapter in Guild Wars will be the last, while the beta for GW2 is planned for 2008, and release 2009-2010

Maybe because of their experience with battlenet, and the fact that diablo2 and gw have more in common with each other than gw and wow. So they could now be coming out with their WOW competitor using the fan base from GW.

I read some stuff up about GW 2 on Guild Wars Guru but to be honest I don't want anything like that since it would just spoil what GW is

did they say it on the main website.  unless they say somethin about it its probably not true.  its too early to put a new game up.  plus it wont be a typical mmo if its true or that defeats the purpose of guildwars corpg.  i doubt it is true.

Maybe Xiaoki works behind the scenes and knows something we don't?
