A few Questions about the future?

Hello There,

I've just began playing the Euripean Beta, my first impressions are surpringly good. I remember when this game was first announced something like 3 years ago maybe more. I was very excited, still it's early days but a good start. I actually have a few questions about the future of the game and it's current status.

1.  Will the game ever feature player housing? it seems like an obvious idea to me.

2. Do you think there will be much Roleplaying? it seems like a good game for RPing but you never know. Would be nice to see a lot of roleplaying aspects towards the shire and such.

Actually sadly thats all for now, I had quite a few but have forgotten them,

Oh 3. Is it true you actually get to play instruments with the keys, kind of like pressing the keys and quordes play?

4. Do you think that Taverns or pubs in the game will be dull places where no one goes or will there be a good social community (SWG as cursed me in the way that bars were always busy 24 hours a day with entertainers.

5. Is there a plan for a special RP server?

I think thats it, some of it I know might not be answerable, I do hope player housing is considered though, I'll play it more tomorrow but I'm a Lord of the rings fan and so far impress (especially with the graphics, lighting and colours of the world).

Thanks.

I understand player housing is in the works but something on the order of kinship housing at least initially, no commitments to individual housing yet.

Quite a few RPers in my Kinship, i bet there will more for LOTRO than an average MMO.  No idea about plans for an RP server though.

Yes, you can play instruments, soon will have the ability to hold a note as long as you hold down the key, a feature currently missing.

Hard to tell about pubs in the long term, but think there will be people who will want to long on just to trundle down to the Green Dragon, sit down in a chair (now supported), smoke some Longbottom Leaf and BS on IM or voice chat.

It's possible to smoke in this game? to be honest I haven't really looked into it great deal but I have been enjoying the game so going to do some research. I'm amazed that the whole instrument aspect hasn't been added to a lot of other MMORPG's, in SWG the music was great in the bars but it would be even better if you were able to customise your music.

Will play it a bit more, but defiantly considering it.

  • It would be nice if Smoking is included, I always wish as a roleplaying more features like this would be added into a game and I do like it. Hope they add other cool features.

Btw, how do you walk in this game? I've tried nearly every key but can't find it.

    Thanks.

They are considering it for future expansions. But i wouldnt really count on it.

However I see it possible in same way EQ2 did it

    2. Do you think there will be much Roleplaying? it seems like a good game for RPing but you never know. Would be nice to see a lot of roleplaying aspects towards the shire and such.
If ever was a game perfect for roleplaying -than it is LOTR based MMO.

On one side Turbine is adding some nice tools for roleplaying , but on other they talk about no RP server...
However there is a lot of LOTR fans that will be wanting to roleplay, and this is good news. And the game itself

has slower pace that gives good to roleplaying... so i am hopeful

Oh 3. Is it true you actually get to play instruments with the keys, kind of like pressing the keys and quordes play?

Yes , and people are crazy about it allready

Unfortunately there is no INGAME reason for visiting taverns except to get quests.

But - taverns look stunning , full of atmosphere. And i hope some rp will go on there..

    5. Is there a plan for a special RP server?
    No... :(

    And yes you can smoke

    Thanks,

Kind of sad if Player Housing isn't considered in some way, it's a feature that quite a few people like and I even thought it could fit into the game somehow, have to wait and see. Nice to see that Turbine are at least considering Roleplayers by adding new features and I guess it's still in beta so a lot of the information is being kept quiet about their future plans. I do love the idea of being able to smoke (I just hope that no Anti-Smoking campaign don't try and sue the game for 'making smoking look cool' it's one of the reasons other games don't include it. But I love the idea and it would be great). You mentioned the game as a slower pace, would be nice, I got fed up of the rushing people did in WoW when they really could have been experience their character (like many RPer's did).

I can see The Lord of the Rings: Online doing what SWG did, it bought a lot of new people into the MMORPG genre (like it did for me) simply because they liked that world. I do have dreams that it would be possible to have a peaceful life in the shire where all I do is smoke, Dance and Eat.... I have been told by a friend that farming is actually being considered to, how would that work then?

Let me reply with what i know as an EU player.

Here is a link to last night's European Devchat if you want to read it.

    1.  Will the game ever feature player housing? it seems like an obvious idea to me.
Yes it's still planned. From last nights Dev chat.

LOTRO has a feature that allows Kinships to limit auctions to only members of their guild. However, we can't have the auction hall being used as a Kinship Bank - that's something we're reserving for housing, post-ship.

    2. Do you think there will be much Roleplaying? it seems like a good game for RPing but you never know. Would be nice to see a lot of roleplaying aspects towards the shire and such.
Roleplayers can have fun in the game is they like and play on a tagged RP server.

Codemasters that runs the EU version sys they WILL have tagged roleplay servers at release. They have planned for some ingame minigames that also can satisfy roleplayers. From dev chat.

We already have a couple of mini-games in the game at launch, tag and freeze tag. As opportunities present themselves, we'll try to add more. As a matter of fact, our first update should have a few, as a matter of fact.
Actually sadly thats all for now, I had quite a few but have forgotten them,

Oh 3. Is it true you actually get to play instruments with the keys, kind of like pressing the keys and quordes play?
Yes and they are enhancing the system.Last nights DEV chat.
We're looking at a few different new instruments for very shortly after launch, and drums are on that list.
In addition to sustained notes, we're looking at some other ways to expand the music system. One of the first major expansions will allow people to create music scripts to share and playback. In that, I believe you can expand octaves in addition to sharps and flats.

    4. Do you think that Taverns or pubs in the game will be dull places where no one goes or will there be a good social community (SWG as cursed me in the way that bars were always busy 24 hours a day with entertainers.
Roleplayers seem to visit the taverns quite often when they come to relax and play music.

    5. Is there a plan for a special RP server?
Yes the European servers will have Roleplayservers at release. The US servers is not sure yet.

Superb thanks, very useful information. Nice to see that RP servers will be included and I love the fact that Turbine are thinking about Roleplayers with those mini game ideas. What they said about the housing seems promising but will have to wait and see.

    Thanks for the great information.
