DAOC Rocks!! More people need to play!

Well after taking a year off here and there I am back once again and the game is better then ever! Leveling now takes half the time it did a year ago and with the addition of many new classes plus the class changes PVE seems more fun now. The graphics can compete with many newer mmo’s in terms of looks and definitely in terms of performance. The player base is also very good; everyone is willing to help and has a lot of experience in the game. I don’t see any problem for a newer person joining the game since any questions will be answered with very little objection. The actually content in the game is as good as any other IMHO, there are tons of different mobs and maby different places to hunt and explore! However the one thing that is not as good as other game’s (WOW) is the questing system, but I’m sure many people, like myself, hate to be told what to do from lvl’s 1-50 (1-70 in wow).

Long story short- If you like bug free, fun, challenging, and casual friendly games then DAOC is for you!

I believe it has the best PVP or should I saw RVR I ever saw in an MMORPG.  But besides that I got kind of tired of it.  Graphics where ok, but nothing breathtaking.  People had alts but called them bots on different accounts to buff there main toons, it wasn't that fun.  You can powerlevel people 1-50 in a few hours basically.  Heck we leveled to 39 and just stayed in that bracket for RVR because that's all anyone would do.  Nobody played any of the other brackets.

    ^^^

And that was a problem why? The point of dark age of camelot is competitive play. You fight players close to your level and with tactics and skill either lose or win. The bg's are great fun! So what if my spells do 50% of the damage of a level 50 player? My opponants have 50% of the hits of a level 50 player. It all comes down to wether or not you came prepared to fight. I used to hate bgs and only ran in NF, but that was because my entire account was filled with 50's and the bg's were somewhat dead on the cluster I played on. I went to classic and found many reasons to love bgs. Learning new tactics, getting experience on my toons so I enter NF knowing as much as I can, and above all, having fun. That's like saying Counter-Strike sucks because 99% of the servers out there don't provide the level of play as a CPL tourney.

Yes, DAoC is a great game! a shame so many don't even know about it or even tries it out :(

The game has improved alot in recent months and we begin to see alot of new players on all servers. DAoC will never have a Hype again but perhaps there can be aleast an increase of new players.

Well, if you don't like the buffbots, go to classic server. There are buffbots with the exception of them /sticking with groups so they're basically free RP's.

Other thing that I like is that they made levelling from 1-20 somewhat easier with the new quests so it's good for the new people in game imo. I myself find quests a little boring and that's why I don't like those games where you have to do a lot of quests to achieve level cap.

I do like how they introduced catacombs though.  If your a grind junkie and hate quests, this is the place to be.
  • hogscraperhogscraper Member Posts: 322
Really confused, was that sarcasm? ^^^^

Catacombs has a couple places to grind, but that place is all about the quests. There were more quests there that gave great xp than anywhere else in the game. Guess you could grind there if you wanted, but the xp from quests there was way better than what you can get killing random mobs.

The best place for xp to me is in the frontiers killing mobs near a keep. Because you get your xp, camp bouns, near a keep bouns, and sometimes group bouns or you can do like me. Log on my nightshade have my low lvl with me get a friend to buff me go to alb beno bridge ml 10 camo for the win and just kill people sick xp.

    Hey ogrellin

I know you are big fan, I use to love DAoC. I went back to check it out a few months back after being away fro a very long time (a few years) and I agree that there have been alot of positive changes but there are a few things I noticed that just boggle the mind as to why they added. Anyway, this is more conversation/chatter on the critical side but Im not attacking.

Ok, the games pops have dropped. Thats cool, it happens to older games but they really need to consoledate servers. People are just way to spread out. You hardly even run into anyone. DAoC is a very large world. Catacombs. Why, with shrinking pops would they add a feature that not only isolates players from the game world and other players BUT makes going out into the gameworld inconvienent on top of it??? Catacombs did alot of damage to this game. Then with the new expansion they add the labryth, a world PvP dungeon...hmmm...didn't we already have that? Darkness falls? Why not revamp that instead of adding a new dungeon to spread out the already thin populations? The game felt empty main because its just to large, to many servers and everything is just way to spread out and most of the players are living in instanced dungeons anyway. That task instance dungeon drove a few nails into the end of this game.

I agree they did a great job at keeping the game up to date but they made alot of bad additions to the gameworld at the same time going all the way back to ToA that killed off, spread out and hid the populations. Realistically they need to cut about half those servers. Then the game might feel more alive again.

People aren't doing td's anymore, only the powergaming ones. I usually see a lot of people in the classic world but it's shame that no one goes to SI (atleast in Albion) anymore. I've always liked SI-zones

Consolidating servers would NOT be a good idea imo.  There is one cluster that has earned its reputation for being unfriendly and mean-spirited.  and not just  a few people there...

What I would love to see it for Mythic/EA to spend 1/2 as much time adverstising Daoc as they do WHO.  Daoc  IS a great game and more need to know about it.

What game are you playing, I reupped and started playing and I can't find anyone to group with.  Tried 3 different server and same darn thing.

After a week I just stopped playing, I don't play MMO's to solo all the time.

Actually the game population isn't so bad.  I play on bedevere and I jsut came back from about 2 years gone (damn wow what a waste of 2 years).  I was playing in Molvik yesterday and earned almost 10K RPs in just that one play session.  There were approximately 20 active playing Hibs in there for most of my play time (not counting bots, there were about 35 total hibernia players in there).  I would guess that there was around teh same amount of albion and midgard as well.

I agree if that if they came out with a new advertising campaign and maybe updated the UI a bit on the game, they could really have a big turn around.  Think about all of the World of Warcraft players who PVP but wish they had a more dynamic PVP environment.  They would love this PVP system.  IMO the system used by DAoC is what WoW should of had!

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

You have to practically solo to 15-20. When I hit about 18, I have been able to find nice groups most of the time
