my favorite excerpts
Sprite - *evill* How long will the release cycle be for major expansion packs?
Annuvin - That's a good question. In the spirit of maintaining my hobby (of indirect answers), I will say that our first focus is on ensuring that our live updates
Annuvin - are peerless. Currently, we're putting together a year of big content patches, so I can't really speak to when we'll be back on shelves. (this is a good
Annuvin - for all you founders out there, by the way).
and
Sprite - *Jae* Will we be able to own our own home's in the game?
LOTRO_Patience - Annuvin's typing
Annuvin - It's funny you should mention that! Just today, Jeff Anderson swings into my office fresh off a European press tour, telling me how many people want to
Annuvin - own a house in LOTRO. I in turn, told him to never come into my office again! Ugh... I mean, I told him we're already examining a housing solution. You
Annuvin - can expect more information soon, but it's a bit premature to commit to dates. I'm guessing by the end of the year. Though I'm one man... and I have been
Annuvin - known to lie.
lots of other good stuff there also
I miss DAoC

Just hope there aren't a finite number of lots with requirements in coin as well as items (any AC1 vet knows what I mean) or else you may be so far behind you can't get a lot/house immediately. That's worse case scenario though.

I never liked that "lot" solution either. Given the initial size of LotRs I would think, lots wouldn't work out anyway.
I would "guess" they go with an EQ2 type set up as its the most efficent use of space and resources and there are alot of buildings right now that are unused/not accessable. It would also stick to the lore as Middle Earth is pretty well mapped out. Couldn't really have players suddenly litering the landscape with player structures everywhere all willy nilly and adding towns with goofy names. It would pretty much wipe out any immersion.

I actually prefer DAoC's version. You enter a transition point, with the short 5 second load screen0 and emerge in a huge area, roughly the size of Bree town, that has lots. The whole area is instance and it would allow to have both an outside and inside of your house. This would allow the ability to customized both inside and outside (I so want yard Hobbits). I wasn't too keen on EQ2's setup as it felt like an urban slumlord was renting to us all.
