WoW, Great MMORPG? Or Failed Attempt?

GindaceGindace Member Posts: 161

Now don't jump on me for being a WoW noob and all, but I need some aswers to this question:

Can WoW compete with the top name MMORPGS?

That's probably not the greatest question, and I'm sure I'll get a lot of "yes" and "duh noob"s but it's ok. Blizzard has brought us great games over the years. Starcraft, The Diablo series, Warcraft series. This is their first attempt at a game that is only meant to be online though. We know what the company is capable of, but can they pull it off? Will it be possible for them to make a game that is solely online?

A couple of friends of mine have gotten into beta. They are in love. Screenshots look great. Graphics don't make a game though. And the rest thing? Was that ever changed? Forcing us to stop playing a game that we pay monthly for, great idea for the company (let us in, then give us half the product, keeps us coming back, and money in their pockets). Bad idea for the gamers. People are going to be pissed if that's a retail thing.

Also, system specs. What are they so far?

What is wrong with the resting? The resting is to make the game ore fun so powergames(Like me) dont just get to the highest lvl in less then a month. It is to make the game more enjoyable and the more need to do quests. I like the resting.

I think WoW will compete with the big boys that are out there at the moment.

I think the game will work great because it seems that the Blizzard is going slowly with the game. They normally behind all release dates as is. I would not mind if I could not get the game till next year. I want the game to start off as completed and not as a beta like a lot of games have done lately.

As for rest, I love it. I think rest is great. I see no forcing at all.You can play with penalties. I never saw anything saying you could not play while exhausted. You get full exp from questing and the such. You get skill points based on the exp that targets give not by how much you recieve. What is not to like about a system that can actually offer you benefits for playing a long time. Might lose some exp but gain extra skill points. I really like the idea that I am 20th level like my friend but I have 40 more skill points accumulated than my friend.

I figure I will need a new computer for the game but I have been waiting a year to get one. I am sure that I will have one not too long after game release if I don't have one before.

WoW will be one of the best and no one... doubt this, seriously. Yeah maybe GW will be better, maybe EQII will be better, but i think the three of them are different style and will be on the top...

I would really like to get in the WoW beta to judge this game for myself.  It seems to be so over-hyped, but who knows, it could be a great game.  The only thing that has kept me away so far is their official forums.  Tons of spam and inappropriate stuff go on in their forums that just makes me sick.  If that is anything of what the community will be like in-game, I am going to run as far away from WoW as I can.

WoW used to be in intersting new mmo option. Now with  the expected date for release in Europe 2005 they can go swivel.

Cant even import a copy from United States of Xenophobia since it would mean i would be playing in darkness most of the time, because of the way they have done the time :/

            Then theres the beta crap.

Scrubbed this of my want list now.

            Next !

Ya.. im going to have a taste of this game first... and if it needs seasoning.. we could ask them to add more seasoning... needs more arregono (Dont know how to spell that :P) then some pepporoni and some cheese.... imageimageimage

What im talking about is... if we get this game polished, and nicely... we will have a great game coming out next year... I don't really mind if it is coming out next year... as long as it is polished, bug, server stability, Charactor detail, Textures, etc are top notched... then it will be a great game to boot.  imageimageimageimageimage

There have been MMORPGs released recently from lesser companies than Blizzard that have "made it". There have been MMORPGs from really good companies (IE. Sony) that have been a flop. Really this market is still open to new ideas and inovation. Because of this people are willing to switch between MMORPGs for something newer and better.

Blizzard and WOW have just as much chance as NCSoft and COH did. The only difference is that WOW is based in Fantasy and many people are done with Fantasy games.

May be fantasy... but what the heck??? who cares if its a fantasy game :) this is the first blizzard game that is being made by Diablo/SC/Warcraft Fanatic company.... Im not saying its a blizzard game... but when i looked at the review at TechTV... it looks very good... this game may.. or may not make it... but Blizzard is making a step in the MMORPG type games... IF they actually get this game right.. it might be a hit in the blizzard industry.

SO who cares? if you like warcraft/diablo II or I then you will probably like this when it comes out... but it may not pique your interest when its out in the market... if they at least give it everything in this game then it will become good.

            Here's my $0.02 on WoW.

I seldomly explore new games. For me, the only games I truly enjoed were quake3 and diablo 2. I did also enjoy starcraft and I do enjoy the warcraft 3 single player somewhat. I'm not a huge fan of rts, but am more of a fan of non-intensive/complex RPG games. For instance, Diablo 2. It's more of a relaxed RPG game. Some might call it an action/adventure with RPG elements.

Now is where World of Warcraft comes in. It takes the incredible storyline from WarCraft, including the races/classes/characters/spells/etc... and turns it into a RPG (MMORPG). I think this will be the next huge game that I will enjoy playing, due to its' diversity. You can learn tradeskills, play with numerous classes/races, learn spells, talents, and do tons of quests, or just do what ya like. Wanna fish? No problemo! Just become a fisherman. Wanna make your own clothes? No problem! Just become a tailor or leatherworker. There's tons of other tradeskills also.

When it comes down to it, Blizzard knows there stuff. Everyone of their games have been a classic. Diablo 2 has been out for a long time, and diablo 2's bnet is still roaming around with tons and tons of players, which tons of their items being sold on ebay. I mean cmon, when windforce came out, people send close to $1,000 to get the item. That goes to show you how popular their games are. Starcraft and Warcraft are also classics.

To me, Blizzard will not settle on making a game that they know would not become a huge classic.

I am one that willl definittely open beta test it and 99% chance buy it.

            Sorry for the long post.

ok .. so I usually just read the forums here and don't post but I figured I should respond to this...

I've been playing WoW since alpha and have been loving it.  When I got into alpha I loved it, but having just played the Horizons ob I would have loved just about anything.  Since then I've been playing about 5 months I believe (the longest I have played any mmo since UO) and still think its a great game.  I've played just about every major mmo ... with the exception of FFXI, Anarchy Online, and Planetside ... and this is by far my favorite and it's only in beta.  The only real problem I have with it are collection quests (collect x blood shards for example) which are pretty lame, but other then that everything is pretty awesome.  As for the fear about resting, I don't know how much you play but I have put about 60 hours or so into my toon this push and am level 23 and have only hit normal rested once and have never gone below it.  Also,  blizz is redoing the resting system so that those who only play on weekends don't get hurt by it and so that you can rest for periods less then 8 hours (currently if you don't rest 8 hours you get no benefit).  This will fix all gripes I have with the current system, which I think works pretty well.  Even if you do go down to exhausted it's not like you have to stop playing, a good chunk of your xp in game is gain from questing, which is not hurt by the rest system.  As for the comment about the community, it is currently great.  When beta started a lot of alpha people were worried about how the community would change with the introduction of all the new people, but it's still pretty nice and I have seen very very few mean people in game (p2p helps to weed out a lot of the jackasses imo, which is why I fear GW).  As for the day/night cycle - yeah I would like it shortened too, but I would rather always play at night then in the day (night looks so good).  Blizz still has a lot to implement (PvP, hero system, talents, etc.) but as long as they continue in the direction they are going I have no doubts that this will be the next major mmo.

Sorry it's so long ... hope it's somewhat useful however image

Without a question WOW will be the best MMORPG ever. I mean EQ2 and GW both look really good, but WOW takes the cake hands down! I love the visual style, the races, the classes! It's all good, and it's much more creative looking then EQ2 which looks just like an upgraded EQ that doesn't offer that much new. And GW isn't a real MMORPG, it's a CORPG, and it will probably lack the depth of WOW!

WoW will be one of the best mmorpg follow closely by EQ2. GW already is a bad mmorpg, with mindless hack/slash and uninteresting skills. WoW and EQ2 is my last hope of it to be great.

do not doubt that blizzard will do what it takes to make WoW a fun and enjoyable game to play. Some ppl complain about the graphics, but i love the surreal look of the game. this is gonna be a game, and i dont need a game that looks like real life. I will be playing the game when it comes out, and i hope that the game lives up to my expectations.
